  1. Blackpool v Pompey yesterday. A dreadful 1st half that would have put tits on you but 5 goals after the break made it a decent spectacle. Bit of a shame for the Blackpool fans as the place is far, far too big for their current needs and feels like a monument to a fleeting period of better times that won't be returning any time soon. The atmosphere was saved by the away fans though. That's the 2nd time I've seen Pompey away from home and their travelling support has terrific numbers even if their songbook is the same generic pish that every English side sees to use and the guys with the cow bells and bugles could do with standing on upturned plugs.
  2. You have to hand it to Blackpool for the effort they put into their ticket design...
  3. I've been condescended to many times, but never about my lack of Stoke awareness. Humbling.
  4. I didn't anticipate a pro shrewbury outcome here.
  5. What will be the better game/ venue from these 2 mouthwatering FA Cup matches? Port Vale v Oxford or Shrewsbury v Aldershot.
  6. Crewe v Carlisle today. Sort of wishing I hadn't arranged to go on the day of the Glasgow Derby but a pub showing the game has been found so the only concern is getting that urge to stay in the boozer rather than go to the game.
  7. Man City aren't wanting to sell us tickets for the Feyenoord game as we don't have a purchase history leaving the local options that evening as Oldham, Bury or Macclesfield Town. What is the best option from that impossibly glamorous selection? I'm thinking maybe Macclesfield as it has terracing but is there anything positive to be said about the other 2?
  8. How can it be anything but Holm Park?
  9. Sorry I've completely missed any mention of this until yesterday but is it going to be an artificial surface and floodies then?
  10. true, but it's going to be a bit of a hazard until it gets sorted.
  11. up at holm park now, good to see work getting done. The entrance area could do with a bit of attention.
  12. ended up patching it. It just didn't sound that appealing compared to the pub. went to Fulham v Sheffield Wednesday which was a bit meh as a game. Away win was about right. The Wednesday fans seem like a genuinely abhorrent bunch. Vile racist scum and easily the worst English club support I've encountered on my travels. best bit of the day was seeing Frank Bruno outside the ground before the game.
  13. Thinking of going to AC London v Egham Town in the FA Cup tomorrow night as we'll be down for the Fulham game on the Saturday anyway. Turns out AC London were set up by a teenager after the London riots, which is a nice story but the real question is - is attending a match like this a criminal waste of a free evening in London? I'm thinking "probably".
  14. Carlisle is a great wee day out for the football, usually a few goals in their matches as well.
  15. Anyone know of a pub in Crewe that will be showing the Rangers v Celtic game on 23rd September? The nearer Crewe's ground the better.
  16. yeah, a few people told me that the stand area has had some work done. I get that there are reasons why the ground has reached that condition but surely it could have been maintained far more diligently in the first place.
  17. was over at Cliftonhill for the Albion Rovers v Celtic X1 game the other night. First visit there for me and I was genuinely taken aback by how far into disrepair it has fallen. Half the site is basically in the process of being returned to nature as the terraces are allowed to crumble. if a league side can't be arsed/ can't afford it then the likes of the Bens have no chance.
  18. Did Kelty ever say they did this to grow their fan base?
  19. Had a wee image search on Google there and the image originally appeared in the 2014 book This is Scotland by Daniel Gray so it must be pretty recent. Any idea who they're playing?
  20. If only you got some kind of trophy for winning divisions.
  21. There's nothing more depressing that passing an old ground you've enjoyed visiting and seeing it overgrown and unloved. Best they just to get on with it and develop the land I think.
