Is a booking for diving not a thing any more? Joke thatΒ

It's bad enough when fans call players by their first name, but this "Memphis" nonsense from a national football governing body is tinpot in the extreme.
He's dropped the Depay. His da deserted him when he was a youngster so he doesn't use the name at all any more

Buzzing for this now, hope Shankland tears it up

Christie will play imo

No surprise to see McTominay thrive with a competent sitting midfielder beside him. Mainoo reminds me of a better version of Gilmour at that age. I hope that they play together for the rest of the season, definitely gives McTominay more freedom to do his own thing

Souttar has been in great form recently and if he is fit it's a great option to have, particularly as a ball-playing replacement for Tierney should the worst happen. I think our back 3 is pretty settled though, can't see anyone forcing their way into the starting line up

This is a 4-2-3-1 with O'Connor right back, Power and French sitting, Gillespie in the middle of the 3. This seems insane.
Surely not. I just assumed it was the same formation as Monday.
Is there at least some fluidity to player positions?

None of those players will ever play for the clubs listed beside them

Thought we were quite fluid with how we set up on Monday night. We can be a bit asymmetrical with French staying back allowing Strapp to roam at the top end of the park.
Would be happy to see that again although maybe with McGrattan in for Gillespie to go with more of a box midfield rather than the kind of diamond -ish shape we went for

Christie started v Norway away, Spain home and away, Georgia away. Can only assume he'd have started v Norway at home if there hadn't been that element of rotation that night.
Any time we are expected to be without the ball for a time he is a huge influence on how we play due to his pressing abilityΒ

Ferguson is a better player than Calum McGregor, playing at a much higher level against top quality opposiiton each week. Mcgregor has done well for us but he was a mainstay in the team due to a lack of real options (up against Ryan Jack and Kenny Mcclean for example) previously and is a decent player but I feel it's now coming to a point where we need to look at upgrades to take further steps forward.
I really wished Clarke would of integrated him much sooner in time for the Euros and that the likes of Doak when he was fit was in the team ASAP when he was getting game time at Liverpool. What's the point in waiting around when we already know he will be a future star for Scotland, other countries like Spain don't seem to mind starting Gavi/Pedri for example. Also, Lamine Yamal is still 16 and already has 4 caps.Β

I don't even think Ferguson himself would agree he's a better player than Callum McGregor

Muirhead is an easy target for morons. Watched him track back all the way to the edge of our box to cover for Crawford and Strapp getting caught out going forward. 2 minutes later he's beaten to the ball from an aimless punt up the park and you start to hear people calling him a lazy b*****d.

Think Christie is too important as a first line press for us to be considering moving him back. More likely to see McTominay/McGinn/Ferguson playing deeper

Callum McGregor is one of the first names on the team sheet when fit. He's been outstanding for Scotland and is one of our most important players.
They don't play the same position.
Ferguson is up against McGinn, McTominay and Christie for the more advanced roles.
McGregor won't be in the squad for these friendlies so Ferguson is sure to get a chance, however I don't think there is any way he replaces any of our midfielders in time for the Euros. McGinn, McTominay and Christie are playing at a higher level and have all proven themselves key players over the years. I feel for Ferguson but he's just not better than them at this stage in his career. His time will come

When you see clips of Quitongo's first spell at Morton it's a shame how much he's declined. 18 years old and rolling defenders for fun, end product at times too. These days you couldn't get him to challenge for a header if his life depended on it. Time to cut our losses and give someone else a run of games ahead of the final stretch.
His final product has always been patchy. Felt at the time that if he improved on that he'd go play at a higher level but it's never happened and now that he is declining physically pretty rapidly he doesn't offer much.
I'd be tempted to go 5-3-2 tonight, Garrity and Muirhead together up top might actually give defenders something to think about rather than it just constantly coming back to us and a bit more defensive support down the channels

Brighton got absolutely battered the other night. Roma old-manned them, made their experience count.
Gilmour was as naive as the rest, particularly for the last goal I think it was. Diving into challenges in the middle of the park which allowed Roma to counter in numbers with him and the rest miles out of position

Unfortunately 4-0 seems a likely outcome given our injury crisis
Not looking forward to it at all. Be tempted to rest some of our 1st team for the league

Not a coupon buster as such but still an absolute kick in the balls. Had Porteous on to score first and anytime and had already spent the winnings only to find he's not been given the goal

Nothing more infuriating than a goalkeeper getting countless warnings for time wasting and then only finally getting booked in injury time when the game is done.
I don't understand why warnings are even given for it, should be a yellow card every time

I don't think they played particularly nice football but they basically strolled it. Hard to be critical

Neither team deserved to win that. Utd managed to score
Contradicted yourself in the first 2 sentences. If one team can score a goal and the other could play until Easter without scoring then there's only one winnerΒ

3-5-2 seems an obvious solution, at least give defences something to think about with 2 showing for it in attack.
Gallagher and Holt won't have had an easier night their whole careers
