Ayr United: "We're going to work hard to put the squad for next season together quickly"

    Also Ayr United:  tumbleweed GIF

I’m sure the internet stalkers will be keeping tabs on Dowds and Chalmers social media and looking for new followers to the social media accounts.
I don’t buy in to the, we’ll sign these guys if we don’t go up angle from Raith fans. If I was Dowds and Chalmers and my wages stop shortly, I’d be wanting a guarantee.

In regards to all of the above do we know if that championship manager scout Glendinning is still in the building???

This may indicate whether we will end up with jobbers from down south ....

Apart from big Dipo and that lad from Wigan McHugh to an extent the rest have been udder dugmeat...

Syla still undecided on think a Crawford would of been a better shout...

Glendinning recommends players based on data and the club then decide if they sign them. It’s not like Glendinning is wandering about public parks in England and the. Shipping players up that Ayr have to take like I think some people think.

The problem has been that there is no traditional scouting. They will get a report, watch some clips online and then get them up for a chat. In a lot of cases, the players have just been poor in Scottish football or played out of position.
If you were signing someone like Robbie Crawford, you have evidence of what he can do, you could phone someone at a previous club and find out what they are like as a person or chances are, one of your team may have played with them.

The loans Brown brought in were via contacts at short notice so the scouting was maybe sketchy.

This window may be different and Brown may be more sceptical of the players recommended than Bullen,  or he may sign any old shite from down south. It’ll still come with more risk than signing someone who has performed at this level or above.

  3. There is a lot of talk about Brown will do this or that, we just need to wait and see what he does and how it works out and judge him on that rather than an expectation that he'll sign a dozen players in his image or hunt players like Chalmers because they aren't defenders.

A big step will simply being competitive next year and not have extended runs of poor form again. having 6-7 guys that give 6/7 out of 10 every week. At least we'd have a platform to build on for the following season rather than shipping out 10 to 15 players next summer and rebuilding again.

Remember when Blackburn Rovers bought a full squad of Players who'd go on to win the Premier League the next season for Allys testimonial?

Shearer was a notable absence but still some team.

We played Southampton the week he signed for Blackburn so he didn’t play, we played Blackburn just before he signed for Newcastle and he didn’t play. We played Newcastle in John Traynors testimonial and he didn’t come up for it.
Stuart Ripley was a big name in that Blackburn team, he went for a ball with the Ayr keeper on the day, Wullie Spence. Spence missed the ball and cleared Ripley out the 18 yard box in stead with a right boot to the ribs.

That’s exactly my thinking, surely it can’t be that hard to pull together plus local business with food trucks and bars would absolutely rake it in?

Pretty sure they showed all the Scotland games at Cameron’s bar during the last tournament, wonder if the club would do something like that again?

They could use the car park but I’m not sure the neighbours would like it too much.
The council will be spending too much on making up for the neglect over the last 15 years on the roads around Troon. Can’t have American tourists seeing the scabby roads.

    1) i think we will free Chalmers would you sign him ?

    2) Is Mcgeady been any good ?

We would love to sign him and should be in pole position, he was with us before, gambled and went to Tranmere where he sat on the bench. He had multiple cracks at Dundee United and never got a run. Being offered more money and location may hurt us though, unless he plans to move to Glasgow. Unless he signs for Dundee or St Johnstone, which I would doubt. Raith and Dunfermline would save him a few hours a day travelling.

McGeady hasn’t been fit since he signed, he’s not played more than an hour and has barely featured in two games in a row. He has been ok at times and other times, just dreadful. I don’t care if he stays on as a player next year if he plays as much as he did last year. I’m not sure we are paying him that much anyway.

I’ll try and avoid having a heads gone until this is officially announced but if true a very worrying start to recruitment. I was hoping there would be a buy in to what Scott Brown was trying to do from the current players however this news and Dowds fairly ominous comments on Friday suggest they aren’t.

Brown has already hunted Albinson and looks like the club captain is next on the list. While Browns approach may (early days) be to the benefit of the club, it might not be going down well with the current team who look like they have been mollycoddled for the last 3 years.

“Negotiations are already ongoing for a number of players to join the team and we are looking forward to supporting Scott & Steven to build their squad for the coming campaign.”

The club really doing everything to assure us that we’re actually active in the market compared to last season.

To be fair, they said that last year as well. But - players on holiday, English release dates being later & other excuses showed that we were either lowballing or had done next to nothing to try and get players in other than waiting on players agents knocking on the front door of Somerset.

  9. If Chalmers stays in Dundee, more money and less travel makes sense. Might not be a good fit for him though, Ayr seems to be the only club he’s managed to stick.
We will miss him if he goes massively. Murphy can’t play 90 minutes, of just doesn’t and McGeady is, well…you know. Amartey is direct but unlikely to create things out of nothing.

    He’s worth extra money.
