  1. If you use Ayr as a case study, we had a really good team 6 years ago that had at least 5 players capable of playing in the Premier league. We couldn’t afford to keep them and they all fucked off for free.
We were in the play-off places two years in a row and had we went up the second year, we’d be absolute cannon fodder.

last season, we had a bottom 6 team with gem of a goal scorer. If we’d been promoted last season, we would have been relegated already.

Morton have a team that wouldn’t stay in the premier league if promoted and don’t have the money to invest. Their only hope is getting 6-7 players together that can be consistent enough to get them promoted and give them at least a year in the premier league to try and get a foot hold.
Ayr could empty every player in the summer and no one would care

Aye.  Won't play again was actually the quote which is clearly not true as he played for reserves midweek and is obviously gonna come on if Clarke gets sent off etc

If he says he won’t play, he’ll be in breach of contract and won’t get paid. Much the same as the club can’t just punt a player out, ban them from training etc.

If it’s true then I can understand why he’d be pissed off. But he’s also a professional footballer who will play based on form and he can’t be surprised if he’s dropped.

I think he’s the best keeper at the club and playing someone else looks like someone is trying to prove a point.

Defence wise, we've lost McAllister to an injury, Stanger suspension and illness, which meant McAllister was rushed back. Reading to an injury, Mutch to an injury so it has been very patchy with Tomlinson RB and Musonda LB. Lost Chalmers to an injury and just coming back now, although has been out of form.

Chalmers has been played in a way that pretty much renders him useless. Syla being dropped has coincided with us leaking goals, he tried Tomlinson at right back before McCallisters injury and he’s played Bryden out wide left a few times as well.
We have had a lot of changes in defence including going to a back 3 and a back 5, which seems dodgy when we are changing defenders as well as the midfield in front of them as much.

Problem is, if we go with the style of play the players are capable of/used to, it's just a regeneration of Bullen.  Shitfest ourselves to safety and it's a factory reset in the summer.

If he went back to how we were in his first three games, obviously Reading is out, We were a lot better, he then started dropping folk, changing things and we started to slide and go from being compact and hard to break down to conceding 7 goals in 3 games and not having a shot at goal in our last game.

  5. A week ago I’d have said we had an outside chance to make the promotion play-offs but now we are more likely to be in the relegation one.

Brown is trying to implement a style of play we don’t have the players for and bending the players we do have to try and suit it rather than the other way around. Unless he changes his approach, we just need to avoid disaster and hope the rebuild he does in the summer is above half decent

Bit of keeping the heid needed over the next 18 days.  Think we will find ourselves 9th one way or the other by the next home game and there's not huge amounts we can do about it

After tonights results, it keeps Dunfermline on the same points with no games in hand and Airdrie 3 points ahead, they don't play their game in hand until April so the league might look a lot different before then. It also keeps Morton close.

On Saturday, Arbroath play Dundee United and Dunfermline are at Raith, The other two games will be teams round about us cutting each others throats.

The following weekend, Dunfermline play Dundee United Queens park play Raith and the rest play each other. By the next home game, Thistle and Morton could be well in the mix. If Inverness win the next two, they would be 4 points ahead and we'd have a game in hand. it wouldn't be the end of the world as long as we stop fucking about.

If memory serves me right, Belle and Sebastian played T in the park mid to late nineties and the lead singer was wearing the new Ayr top. So new that I don’t think it had been released yet.

It may have been one of the brothers from Bis. I think they wore a. Ayr top at T in the park.

Stuart from Belle and Sebastian made a film a few years ago and the lead character wore a retro Ayr top as a uniform in a restaurant. He also wrote a song called black and white United, but I think it’s more about racial harmony than a Somerset Bob esq number.

There was an article in one of the national papers a while ago about Ayr rivalling Celtic with celebrity fans. Then listed Glen Michael and Sidney Devine…..

I’m not entirely sure but think it’s doubtful.

There  is also the lead singer of Belle and Sebastian and the non ginger from Biffy Clyro

I’m not sure there is much scope for collaboration on an Ayr United song though with the differences in musical style and Coolio being dead unfortunately.

  9. McGinty has been solid all season, if Brown drops him for one slack pass-back then I am hitting the panic button.

When you are under constant pressure, players get physically and mentally tired. Playing 4231 means teams go through us like a doze of salts, playing McKenzie and Murphy means the full backs get more protection but it still causes problems.

Id be more inclined to play three in the middle with Chalmers, Murphy and Dowds up front, so that the midfield is a 5 defending and 2 attacking with McHugh or Smith supporting.

The concerning issue from Saturday is tha Dunfermline are just as bad as us and we never left a glove on them, that was as bad as anything under Bullen . What ever Albison has done,we need to play him,Clarke is conceding too many soft goals, always rooted to his line and been coached by the centre halfs.

Clarke is also not a shouter, he needs to be keeping his defence right and letting them know who is behind them.
There obviously wasn’t much he could do about Kanes goal, McGinty saw Kane and turned back to play it to the keeper when he should have just launched it.

  11. It would be good to know what is going on. Albinson being dropped is not because he shipped two against Dundee United surely. Bullen dropped him for Mutch and Mutch was marginally worse, so Albinson came back in. Brown was pretty quick to drop him again and he's clearly not getting a second chance with him. He said Clarke was brought in as competition but was flung in hours after signing.

Chalmers has been a shadow of his former self and is being dropped in favour of Bryden, Amartey is almost completely out the picture. I am wondering if it is players who have said they wont be here next season have just been almost cut adrift to focus on players that want to stay.

If it is, its a pretty naïve approach, if these guys are trying to win moves, they will perform and that should help us in the short term.

  12. It’s maybe a problem with online forums but there is a middle ground between we are shite after 6 games under Brown or we are amazing. It’s not a cult. It is possible to say we are good or bad week to week without it being a conspiracy or anyone is right or wrong. Saying we were bad today isn’t nailing your colours to a mast saying Brown must go as much as saying beating Thistle wasn’t proof that Brown going to lead us to the Champions league.

we now need to win against Inverness, which is much less of a “must win” game for them after todays results. We have two weeks to get players back and two weeks to not f**k this up.

  13. I’m not worried yet, I think Brown has shown that he’s a capable coach in his short time at the club and has proved more than Bullen did in 2 years.
My concern is that he is trying to spin too many plates at the moment. He needs to focus on putting the best team out and focus on development once we are safe. Get consistency.

Gaining safety allows us to build for next season. this season is, at best going to end scraping the promotion play-offs currently. We need consistency before anything else.

Each of them were miles better than Bryden technically at that age tbh - we didn’t see anything of McCowan at 19 though.

We don’t seem to be bringing through young players that look particularly good technically right now, so far most look very raw and can offer something in terms of energy and driving runs at times but that’s about it.

We were playing at a lower level and they were thrown in and played regularly.
Bryden needs games. Rose has scored a few at Hamilton and I’d prefer Bryden was out on loan learning his trade

Honestly, the way people talk about Bryden being played out of postion, regardless where he plays the boy is not good enough at this level, not even sure of league 2 level but he gets a easy ride as does McKenzie because he is "one of our own",not blaming him today because everyone was rank, but if this is the sort of players we are giving 2 year deals, them the future doesn't loog good.

Bryden should be modelling himself on Kris Dolan. A guy who was limited but took his chances, becoming a fans favourite. He needs played in his natural position where possible and nurtured as such.

We were still losing games despite playing well. The squad isn't good enough to go on a consistent run of games. Chalmers played the same amount as Bryden and produced nothing. Granted it's the worst performance under the Brown era but whatever that was on the bench wouldn't have changed anything today.

Even when Chalmers isn’t playing well, he still pulls players wide and stretches teams. Some teams double up on him leaving space for others. He links with McCallister and the midfield.

Doesn't matter what team you put out, there's a reason why this team haven't won 2 games in a row. The lack of cutting edge of obvious and the defense is a mess.

We played well for a few games, we were hard to beat and he changed the midfield, lost Stanger and Reading. Dropped Chalmers and Syla. We have now a worse goals and f**k-up ratio per game than we did with Bullen. Today we were also as soft as puppy shit and looked like we couldn't be arsed. An absolute shitebag performance lost in the first half. another game where we've had to make changes at half time because he have the wrong people on the pitch.

I have been impressed with Brown so far but we have gone from having one eye up the table to looking firmly at 9th if we lose to Inverness. The first half killed us and it was down to selection. The midfield won nothing, the forwards offered nothing and we were under pressure for most of it.
