We need at least one goalkeeper, Higgins and Rose plus another two defenders. This is where being full time will benefit, picking up decent part time players like Bell with the offer of full time football. Boyle was ok last time in the Championship but he is another injury prone player, Ferguson went from brilliant to dreadful to ok over the season but is still young, Reid was ok this year but again, always injured. I would be keen to keep Crawford, Doc, Adams and Geggan but you wouldn't get 36 games out of any of them. Kerr at 35 may be past Championship level. McDaid, Forrest and McGuffie should all be kept, all are highly regarded at the moment outwith Ayr and may be tempted elsewhere. Shankland resigning would be a huge boost, Moore is a very different player to him and has scored goals in the Championship before. Hart Rose, Higgins maybe Boyle and Ferguson Crawford, Doc, Adams, Bell, Geggan Forrest, McDaid, McGuffie Moore Shankland Moffat I think that would allow a core of this season to be kept with enough room to freshen up

Slavia v Pilsen are currently the top two teams in CZ, Slavia are currently 5 points behind Pilzen with 6 games to go. It will probably be the game of the season in Czech football. Sparta v Zlin, Sparta have struggled the last couple of years and Zlin were outsiders for the league last year after coming from nowhere but are currently in a relegation fight. Out the two, Sparta are easier to get to, the Gererali Arena is a walk-able distance from the centrum through the Letenska park. Slavia is easier to get to by tram, there is a stop 100 yards from the ground. The 5th is also the Czech national teams first game in the ice hockey world cup, the game is in Sweden but it is normally a decent atmosphere in bars watching it.

Slavia have been consistent all season but have been brutal to watch, Skoda aside, there are very few goals in the team, Stoch and Danny were brought in as creative players but have been pretty poor. I am a massive fan of Husbauer though, plays a simple game and can be a nasty b*****d when he has to be. I was travelling to Airdrie yesterday so I never got to see the game, the goal looked like about 75% of Slavia goals this season.

There is a sports bar at the stadium, next to the club shop, there is also a beer garden area outside the hotel. You can get a beer while watching the game also. I normally get the tram straight to the ground, there is a lot of decent pubs near IP Pavlova and Namesti Miru, you can get the 22 tram from there to the Slavia stop. I'm not sure if Pardubice is more of a hockey town or not, they used to regularly win the national championship but I don't think they get massive crowds there either. When Czech folk ask me if I am in to football, they always follow it up with asking if I support either of the old firm. When I ask who they support , it is almost always Arsenal or Chelsea and then say they don't watch Czech football as it is hovno. I think the ambivalence/apathy towards local leagues because of the Premiership has taken a lot of the money and development out of them. CZ has a population of about twice the size of Scotland and have three teams regularly getting an attendance of about 10k so it is hard to see, other than a change like regional cross border leagues or cups, what could ignite an interest, although it hasn't really worked with the Irn Bru cup here.

Roman Bednars old club Příbram who Rudi Skacel now plays for could come up, they have been dreadful for years. Pardubice, which is about half way between Prague and Brno could come up also. I have been to Pardubice a lot with work but never made a game there, the ground reminds me of Glenaftons Loch Park

I've only seen them play at Eden and I don't think they brought enough of a support to display a banner, although my ability to read any banners in Czech is pretty limited. Sparta were described to me as the Czech Airdrie

Both pretty easy, Sparta is a bigger stadium and probably more used to non-Czech visitors. neither will sell out Sparta has a ticket windows at the bottom of the stands

Banik Ostrava signed Lastuvka after he was free'd from Slavia, one of the most calamitous keepers I have ever seen. I will be sorry to see them go down, there is something a bit junior football about the kit they wear I like.

Slavia conceding a last min goal to Zlin wouldn't have helped. The next game I make it to will be the last game of the season with Plzen. I had one eye on that being a potential title head to head but I think tonights result killed any hope of that.

Slavia are currently in a distant second to Pilzen after going on an unbeaten run lasting a year, they had a fairly consistent first half of the season, only losing twice. However, Pilzen winning 14 games in a row from the start of the season meant that the league looked almost won before the winter shutdown. Slavia invested in a lot of experienced players for European football that turned out to be duds, They lost Jiri Pavlenka to Werder Bremen and replaced him with the calamitous former Fulham keeper Jan Lastuvka. Most of these players have now gone and the core of last seasons team are now pulling Slavia back in to the title race. Since the re-start, Slavia have three wins and a defeat with Pilzen only achieving two draws reducing the lead to seven points although Pilzen have a game in hand. Sparta have struggled further this year and are currently outside of the European places.

Slavia have been on a Celtic type unbeaten run but it is draws that are killing them this year, Skoda has been injured quite a bit and the players brought in for the European games have been mostly poor or injured. Losing Pavlenka to Werder Bremen and having a calamitous replacement in Lastuvka hasn't helped either. I'd say either a draw or a narrow 1-0 home win.

Sparta v Dukla would probably be the equivalent of Rangers v Partick in Czech football, there is a bit more dig in the Bohemians v Slavia matches but the real rivalry in Czech football is Slavia v Sparta
