The Ultimate Super Ayr Thread
diegomarahenry replied to D'Jaffo's topic in Scottish Championship General Chatter
Just listening to Si Ferrys interview with Simon Donnelly, He describes an Ayr player doing Jackie McNamara at Somerset..... McNamara flew in to a daft challenge and met Martin Campbell, you heard the crack at the other end of the park. Campbell was the victim in the challenge and for once was the one who walked out of it. -

My point is there would be a small scope of teams both interested and interesting within the Championship for Shankland to move, the reality is every team could pay any realistic fee Ayr asked for and probably x10 his current wage. Doesn't mean he wants to move to Rotherham. -

100% of them could afford a fee and pay more money than Ayr are paying, but are they interesting enough of a team to tempt him away from Ayr, his home, his family, his girlfriends life etc ? beat Dundee, get to the quarter finals and offer Moffat, Moore and Shankland 18 month extensions. At least guarantee us money and more importantly Shankland till the end of the season -

With Moore injured, selling Shankland would royally f**k Ayr. Fortunately the club doesn't want to sell and the player doesn't want to leave so it would take something big to make the club sell and something interesting to tempt the player. That rules out 95% of Scottish teams and 75% of English championship teams. -

While Raith might be something of a laughing stock now, they were unbeaten at home all season and their final points tally would have been enough to win the third tier most seasons - belittling our achievement is a poor show IMO. Both teams seemed to cave in once they got ahead, going in to the last day with roles reversed may have had a different outcome. had Ayr won the play-offs in the event of Raith winning the league, I doubt Shankland, Rose, McDaid and a couple of others would have re-signed. For the first time in my lifetime, Ayr have been on the right side of luck -

In his first spell, Moffat would have been the one playing on the shoulder of centre halfs, quick balls over the top and beating defenders in a foot race , now he is coming short and linking play or drifting out wide to stretch defences and always trying to give an out ball to the midfield. -

Storey may well be still on the pitch at Somerset trying to find Robbie Crawford, absolutely did him twice today. -

Championship teams down south could easily throw £250k at Shankland as a gamble and it would be 50/50 if he was given a chance. He has played for a few clubs already, mostly on loan and wasn't nearly the player he is now, moving to the Championship for money might stall his career when he is at a critical age. Or he could continue the same way he has at Ayr. He seems happy at Ayr, when he first joined he didn't really celebrate goals and looked like he was going through the motions, within a couple of months he was almost winning games single handed and looked like he wanted to win more than anyone. I hope he has a huge future in the game and plays at international level, I think he can.....as long as he stays this year and we get a whack of cash for him when he goes I'll be happy -

Were we not classed as high risk for a while due to flares and the young team fighting in Coatbridge? I remember at Alloa it was almost a case of Ayr fans being allocated their own policeman on the way in. I seem to remember the club at the time appealed for folk to stop causing bother because of the extra policing costs it would incur for a period. -

I was thinking about that the other day, Steve Nicol moving from a Scottish first division team straight in to an English Championship winning team, I couldn't even tell you when it last happened to an SPL team never mind below that. -

Listening to off the ball last night, Ayr were nominated for team of the day for having a 100% record and Shankland for his goal-scoring. It was funny hearing all the emails from Dunfermline fans being read out What about us? we're special to, please tell us we are special -
