  1. Reid was always picking up wee injuries

So I am surprised he was free'd

Sad but not surprised to see Boyle go, signed as a marauding full back but has hardly crossed the half way line for 18 months, competent enough player that I wouldn't have been upset about staying on, much the same as Reid. Ferguson, like Rose in his first year was played out of position and maybe a settled run at some point will bring him on.

  2. If it is anything like last year, Devlin said on day one he wasn't interested and the rest were either told they were going or given a few weeks to decide on the offer.

It will come down to money, however, if he has a girlfriend and ties to Glasgow then it would have to be enough money to tempt him away from it all.

If he had this kind of season in the championship then I could see him getting  a move down south.

  3. We need at least one goalkeeper, Higgins and Rose plus another two defenders. This is where being full time will benefit, picking up decent part time players like Bell with the offer of full time football. Boyle was ok last time in the Championship but he is another injury prone player, Ferguson went from brilliant to dreadful to ok over the season but is still young, Reid was ok this year but again, always injured.

I would be keen to keep Crawford, Doc, Adams and Geggan but you wouldn't get 36 games out of any of them. Kerr at 35 may be past Championship level.

McDaid, Forrest and McGuffie should all be kept, all are highly regarded at the moment outwith Ayr and may be tempted elsewhere.

Shankland resigning would be a huge boost, Moore is a very different player to him and has scored goals in the Championship before.

    Hart

Rose, Higgins maybe Boyle and Ferguson

    Crawford, Doc, Adams, Bell, Geggan

    Forrest, McDaid, McGuffie

    Moore Shankland Moffat

I think that would allow a core of this season to be kept with enough room to freshen up

  4. My only experience with Slovak football was when my girlfriends father took me to see Tatran Presov, his local team play FC Nitra, an tense afternoon where I sat with a man who spoke no English and I spoke minimum Czech at the time, watching his team getting soundly pumped.

Hello, im heading to prague the first weekend in may and both slavia and sparta are at home on the saturday. Any recommendations for which one to go and see. Its a stag do so looking for a few beers during the afternoon nearby too! Cheers

Slavia v Pilsen are currently the top two teams in CZ, Slavia are currently 5 points behind Pilzen with 6 games to go. It will probably be the game of the season in Czech football.

Sparta v Zlin, Sparta have struggled the last couple of years and Zlin were outsiders for the league last year after coming from nowhere but are currently in a relegation fight.

Out the two, Sparta are easier to get to, the Gererali Arena is a walk-able distance from the centrum through the Letenska park. Slavia is easier to get to by tram, there is a stop 100 yards from the ground.

The 5th is also the Czech national teams first game in the ice hockey world cup, the game is in Sweden but it is normally a decent atmosphere in bars watching it.

Slavia have been consistent all season but have been brutal to watch, Skoda aside, there are very few goals in the team, Stoch and Danny were brought in as creative players but have been pretty poor. I am a massive fan of Husbauer though, plays a simple game and can be a nasty b*****d when he has to be.

I was travelling to Airdrie yesterday so I never got to see the game, the goal looked like about 75% of Slavia goals this season.

He must have been reading this, he managed a cheeky lob and a 25 yard thunderb*****d on Saturday.

The team should have got a point yesterday against a very poor Slavia side, and instead crumbled after a soft goal. I fear for their chances.

Going to Slavia-Karvina this Friday night. Any recommendations on decent pubs near the stadium would be appreciated!

There is a sports bar at the stadium, next to the club shop, there is also a beer garden area outside the hotel. You can get a beer while watching the game also.

I normally get the tram straight to the ground, there is a lot of decent pubs near IP Pavlova and Namesti Miru, you can get the 22 tram from there to the Slavia stop.

I have been in the following bar, it does tank beer, not sure if you have been to Prague before but tank beer is unpasteurised and has to be consumed two weeks from manufacture, the first time it is exposed to light and oxygen is when it is poured.

It if maybe 100 yards up from the Slavia tram stop

  9. I'm not sure if Pardubice is more of a hockey town or not, they used to regularly win the national championship but I don't think they get massive crowds there either.

When Czech folk ask me if I am in to football, they always follow it up with asking if I support either of the old firm. When I ask who they support , it is almost always Arsenal or Chelsea and then say they don't watch Czech football as it is hovno.  I think the ambivalence/apathy towards local leagues because of the Premiership has taken a lot of the money and development out of them.

CZ has a population of about twice the size of Scotland and have three teams regularly getting an attendance of about 10k so it is hard to see, other than a change like regional cross border leagues or cups, what could ignite an interest, although it hasn't really worked with the Irn Bru cup here.

  10. Roman Bednars old club  Příbram who Rudi Skacel now plays for could come up, they have been dreadful for years.

Pardubice, which is about half way between Prague and Brno could come up also. I have been to Pardubice a lot with work but never made a game there, the ground reminds me of Glenaftons Loch Park

I won't, they can take their anti-Islam banners and chants about Roma and Jews to the seaside leagues.

I've only seen them play at Eden and I don't think they brought enough of a support to display a banner, although my ability to read any banners in Czech is pretty limited.

Sparta were described to me as the Czech Airdrie

Anybody on here bought tickets on the day for either Sparta or Bohemians? Easy enough to get and any bother from the locals if there's 6 Scots in the ground? Heading over this weekend and hoping to get to at least one game.

Both pretty easy, Sparta is a bigger stadium and probably more used to non-Czech visitors. neither will sell out

Sparta has a ticket windows at the bottom of the stands

It's in September so I'm keen to try and get to a game, I assume their season will have started then.

Yes, it runs from August to November, February to May, there are about a dozen teams in Prague so you will have a choice

Viktoria Plzeň lose again, they won't be caught at the top though. Frustrating day for Zbrojovka at home to Karviná yesterday, hit the bar twice and were all over them - 0-0. Playing Slavia Prague next week so no chance of points there I'd say. After that away at Slovácko for the South Moravian derby.

    Pretty tight down there...

Slavia conceding a last min goal to Zlin wouldn't have helped.  The next game I make it to will be the last game of the season with Plzen. I had one eye on that being a potential title head to head but I think tonights result killed any hope of that.

My mates stag weekend is in Prague later this year, anyone got any stag recommendations, particularly for guys who are a bit too old for all this nonsense, ie me?

There is a sports bar a bit out the city centre that is not stag do friendly, Id recommend that if you are there without a bunch of arseholes all wearing banter tshirts and a groom in a Borat mankini

  16. Slavia are currently in a distant second to Pilzen after going on an unbeaten run lasting a year, they had a fairly consistent first half of the season, only losing twice. However,  Pilzen winning 14 games in a row from the start of the season meant that the league looked almost won before the winter shutdown.

Slavia invested in a lot of experienced players for European football that turned out to be duds, They lost Jiri Pavlenka to Werder Bremen and replaced him with the calamitous  former Fulham keeper Jan Lastuvka. Most of these players have now gone and the core of last seasons team are now pulling Slavia back in to the title race.

Since the re-start, Slavia have three wins and a defeat with Pilzen only achieving two draws reducing the lead to seven points although Pilzen have a game in hand.

Sparta have struggled further this year and are currently outside of the European places.

  17. Prague 2 and Prague 8 are within walking distance of the centrum and have a lot of decent bars, there are probably half a dozen Irish bars also that will show football and the staff will all speak English but the beer will cost more. The Dubliner and Rockys are the two main ones and will be busy but there is also O'Ches

Most places tend to show major football and hockey games though, restaurants and cafes will rig up tellys , especially during the Ice Hockey world cup.

Dukla are a reformed club as well, and their stadium only comprises one stand, albeit an absolutely huge one. As much as there's a romance for the side because of Half Man Half Biscuit, they're pretty much an under-supported irrelevance.

Not making the trip to Prague tomorrow, but Slavia vs Zbrojovka is a stick-on home win as Brno have been outrageously poor this season, with the exception of an outstanding home performance to beat Sparta 2-0 three or four matchdays ago.

Glad I saw this thread as I forgot all about it! I really should update it, particularly as I have my season ticket this year, but life/PhDing has got in the way.

Slavia have been on a Celtic type unbeaten run but it is draws that are killing them this year, Skoda has been injured quite a bit and the players brought in for the European games have been mostly poor or injured. Losing Pavlenka to Werder Bremen and having a calamitous replacement in Lastuvka hasn't helped either. I'd say either a draw or a narrow 1-0 home win.
