I understand the process is causing issues but silence on the subject since before the Lask first leg.

Quotes that he may have been available for the United game in the media. Then nothing and no questions put forward to CD about it that I've seen since. 🤷‍♂️

Even if it was sorted today, he will need a few weeks to get anywhere near match sharp. Bonus is that it is the international break now so not missing anything, but he needs to get properly training ASAP.

Must be a bit soul destroying for the young lad.

Can anybody remember if Liam Craig has had a sustained period out injured at any point in his Saints career? Can only remember the odd niggle here and there

Not that I can remember. I knew he was close to the record, but never realised he was that close. Been a great servant to saints in and off the pitch.

Going to be slightly negative here, but it's a shame it has come over 2 spells. In a way, Anderson felt a bit more special as it was all in one go. I think we are/were all glad it outdone Alan Main as for as much as we all liked him, he buggered off chasing the dough and to my knowledge hasn't ever really been back to saints since.

  3. Journalists rightly calling out bigoted scenes today, but we all know that after a day or two of seeming like they have a backbone, they will all revert to type and kneel before the Rantic by the end of the week.

Waiting for the day one if them has the balls to directly ask the questions of the likes of Gerrard what HE thinks about his teams fans singing.

It's not limited to one side of glasgow, it is both and no amount of whataboutery justifies any of it.

If the sports journalists encountered the same behaviour in any other area of news, they would be all over it until they got answers. Imagine the news coverage if there was a march in England about Scots going home......

I wonder if folk are able to return some tickets hence they come up for resale or something.

There was a couple randomly came up in the main after it was sold out too.

Sounds like great sales then. Hopefully any still to be unsold seats are spread out and not whole blocks of potentially empty seats, which would look mince if not sold.

    Ormond is almost sold out.
North still has a fair few left.

There's plenty of room for the displaced fans of the FCU too. Given the club have already been fined because of their behaviour, I don't think they really had much of a choice but to close the section in case there's a repeat. They should've communicated why this was happening sooner though.

Think it might be time for me to ignore St Johnstone related social media/P&B threads for a while. The whole support seems to have sand in their vagina about something or other right now and its killing my buzz for Thursday.

Agree, time to move on now. For what it's worth, I dont think the club would have done this if it was a domestic game. Clearly spooked by the prospect of a UEFA after the Palestine flag last time.

Zander will have bags of confidence going into this game. It will spur him on hopefully. Rest of the players too will believe there is now the potential of a call up at Saints. I think the SFA sound c40 players out via clubs before squad announcements, so maybe one or two others know they are close.

Robertson and Tierney doubt squad world cup stage

    Scotland squad

    Clark McLaughlin Kelly

O'Donnell Rooney McCart Hanley Kerr Hendry Cooper Halkett Souttar Doig Hickley

McTominay McGregor Gilmour Turnbull Gauld Christie McGinn

Nesibt Adam Gallagher (if he eligbile scotland) Dykes Fraser Forrest Armstrong (if he eligbile scotland)/ Kane (st Johnstone if Armstrong fail elgible play Scotland)

Even as a saints fan that's a bit far fetched having 5 saints players in there! 🤣

Swanson was great in his second spell, wasn’t it the third time we signed him that he didn’t hit top form?

If we win on Thursday I’d take Kennedy (and Drey!) on a seasons loan in a heartbeat.

They could take care of domestic opponents whilst the current first team slay European opposition.

Kennedy would be ideal for breaking down weaker teams at McDiarmid, which we can struggle with a bit at times.

You are right, 3rd spell was just a waste of everyone's time. 2nd spell was as good as the first.

It would be interesting if we did get to the groups what kind of signings would we get? Would it just be capable bodies to bolster the squad or would it be Kennedy like players who would enhance the team. For me, the first task would be to sign middleton permanently as I think if he is as good as last season we have no chance once his contract expires.

I suspect Davidson has a list A and and list B depending on the outcome of Thursday. Brown may have a list C though!

  9. While it is great he is getting game time, concern is he might get dragged down playing in a team that is getting scudded every week. It is a certain type of player than can thrive in a poor side. Hopefully Gilmour can be that type of player.

Maybe he will be able to add a different type of skill set from having to battle most weeks. That's what Chelsea will be hoping and could be good for Scotland too.

Roddy Grant has been appointed as a Director of the club so that's some reassuring news at least.

Out of interest, do any of the directors actually invest in the club financially? We are well run, but I wonder if folk on the board bring either expertise in a field such as hospitality, finance or sports management or is it just mates of Steve Brown? Not knocking anyone in any way, just seems the Saints behind the scenes folk are never really in focus.

It's almost impossible to prove either way, but I wonder how MOH over the past 12 months actually compares to the rest of his career with us.

Always wondered if he is actually playing to the same level, it's just we've all forgotten how inconsistent he was, and are blinded by the couple of months where he was genuinely unplayable.

Dunno, just a thought I've been having lately.

At points this season there has been flashes of the old MOH. If we could get even half of peak MOH with Middleton in side too it would be glorious.

Funny how we have had some incredible periods from some of our players who move into better things and when they come back around are never quite the same, MOH, May and Swanson all good examples. Half expect us to resign Wright and Kennedy!

If we could get the Kennedy from that game at Dens I'd have him in a heartbeat. Possibly the best performance I've seen from a single saints player ever....

Correct, was about 2,600 United supporters

Yeah, that's about right. North holds 1,900 and that full bit of main is 900, but section reduced a bit.

Which would mean just 3k saints fans, which for me wasn't the case. We have over 2,700 season ticket holders, so that would assume there were essentially no extra fans.

Been to enough games at McDiarmid over the last 30 years to get a sense of size of home crowd and that was not just 3k.

No idea why they would announce lower though.

    Still though good atmosphere.

Out of interest though, given saints get a hard time over poor crowds, what sort of crowd should saints be getting? What should Utd be getting?

  13. It's fairly easy to knock Sportscene as we all either have in our heads a misty eyed view of what it used to be or compare it to MOTD. To be fair, it's pretty decent overall for what it is and what production cost goes into it. Kerr and Stewart are pretty decent pundits, although Iwolumo is by far the best all round.

Biggest criticism is Thompson. He's likeable and tries hard, but it's never natural. I get there would be a learning curve, but not sure he is much better than when he started.

Highlights are much better than last season. More in depth and I like the wee discussions at the beginning on European games etc.

Compare it to MOTD which while has better in game camera angles etc is on a green screen set which looks terrible and has the dregs of pundits like Danny Murphy.

McLaughlin is the best keeper Scotland have that isn't Gordon, Marshall or McGregor but needs regular game time.

I'd imagine this might be McGregor's final season so we can possibly see the prospect of McLaughlin being Rangers number 1 or moving on because they've signed someone else. I'd go with Gordon for the time being as Scotland number 1 and be patient with McLaughlin and keep him as the 3rd keeper until Gordon's retirement then hopefully we will get 2-3 year out of McLaughlin and by that time someone new has appeared.

But you cannot just keep calling up a guy into the squad because he may or may not be Rangers first choice in a few years. I like McLaughlin and think he is a good keeper, but we cannot be expected to rely on a guy who barely plays, especially in goals.

What it all probably indicates is that we dont have any stand out keepers. Marshall is decent, bit sliding. Gordon too and beyond that it's all a bit meh, which is worrying. When you are choosing between Rangers backup to a 39 year old, Celtics 2nd or 3rd choice keeper, St johnstone keeper and a motherwell keeper who couldn't get in the QPR team, it's pretty grim.

Stadium is in dire need to a makeover. The breeze lock interior is hellish. The corridors and cafeteria areas need a lick of paint and St Johnstone related pictures along the corridors. Could have pictures of historical games up on the walls accompanied with some information, like black and white action shots from a famous game or something. Just make the place a bit more vibrant.

There is quite a lot of wasted space too. The areas outside the toilets could be better used. Been to stadiums where there is standing tables and TV's in areas like that.

For me, they could do a lot more with the space for not a lot of cost. I'd like to see turnstiles put at the outside of the east stand at the car park end. Helps the flow better and you can use the outside bit of the east as an area fans can access pre game and HT.

Phased over, say 5 years to do the East stand would surely be manageable given that it could be capitalised over a very long time.

All depends I guess on where the club washes up financially after covid but the government loan,  the cup money and of course anything from Europe are pretty big crash mats stuffed with cash.

I think as well, it's not just £80 a seat vs nothing. In reality, all the seats need replaced. At a guess, even if a replacement seat was £30-£40 for a normal one, the difference is £40- £50 a seat. You wouldn't put rail seats in all of east  so the yellow north end would only cost c£50k

  17. 3 minutes ago, mizfit said:

Speaking of seats, my season ticket seat gave out before I’d even sat on it yesterday, pushed the seat down and if come away from the concrete.

We’ve done good getting to 30 years, but I think the club needs to start carrying out some work on the stadium itself soon.

This and the ends of the stands. No point in patching them up with red bits of plastic. Club could even put up some coverings with former players or just blue. Motherwell did it in the summer and it looks great. Ground really is starting to creak a bit now and not an awful lot seems to be getting done.

APPARENTLY to do with with broken seats. Someone said to me 80ish but didn't see any broken yesterday but they may have fixed them since then (if so good job fixing them that quickly)

While I know this wasn't the intention at all. All its done is antagonise them and it's now more likely one or two of them will misbehave. I'm not condoning any nonsense but that's the reality of it because like you said they've used them for the PR of it and without explanation or notice shut their wee section. I know Saints have tried to work with them in the past etc etc but just reach out and advise them of the decision instead of making the decision and leaving them to find out when they tried buying tickets.

Last I spoke to any them about it was Saturday so someone from the club hopefully has discussed/explained the decision since but at that point it was them reaching out to the club asking what was going on and not hearing much back.

All ties in well with the lack of communication and thought put into the whole ticket sale for Thursday though I guess.

If that was the case, then the club should come out and say as much. I think most fans would accept the club cannot have loads of broken seats by our own fans. Aberdeen chairman did exactly that last week.

I doubt any of the young lads would have broken seats internally out of malice and if any broken it will have been from celebrating.

As I have said earlier, it doesnt take much to break the seats as they are pretty knackered anyway. Take out the seats from that section, put in rail seating and give the red seats to Jeanfield or something. Wins all round and great PR.

  19. While I dont think we were good enough today, cannot get too carried away about it. I think the Thursday to Sunday recovery is much harder for the players than the Sunday to Thursday. I know it's an extra day + etc, but its maybe more mental tiredness. Factoring in travel and rest etc, you only really have the saturday to prepare. Clubs well used to the european games have well worn processes, bigger squads and more experience of this. Saints are learning as we go, albeit not completely new to some.

You could see today that there was just some uncharacteristic decision making, offensively and defensively. Clear to see that Gordon is the marshall of the defence. McCart in particular looked lost a bit. What was annoying was the amount if times McCart ve turned forward in 2nd half and didnt even look to his left where Booth was either in loads of space or had loads of space to run in behind. Having more vocal players and a bit more time to prepare would obviously help.

Having Gordon and Wortherspoon back for Thursday will be key.

The few Saints fans singling out Callum Hendry today for his poor 20 minute subs appearance did see the preceding 70 minutes from £3k a week Stevie May, aye?

May has been poor for ages too, but at least he puts effort in. Never been the same player since injury. Hendry is lazy and looks like he couldn't give a toss. I can accept poor performances, but not players not putting in the effort.

  21. United deserved the win. They were just better than us in every department today. Not often a team has more energy and press than saints, but utd did. I'm sure there was a bit of a European hangover, but that's not really and excuse for Saints to be honest.

I can only assume Davidson was trying to keep the games coming for the players to keep them on it, but I think it was the wrong call to start so many players that will start on Thursday.

I think Hendry's days are done. He offered nothing and he couldn't be arsed even sticking out a leg when a high, but still decent ball was pinged into him.

Ref had a 'mare though. To be fair to Pawlett, he should never have been booked for his celebration as the other Utd players pushed him into the crowd and I'm not sure there was NO contact from Davidson, but he did make a meal of it.

Probably a game Saints players and fans are glad to be out of the way TBH. Thursday is much bigger, but we will need to up our game regardless of what happens then. Really missed Worherspoon today.

Biggest compliment I can give Utd was that they were incredibly streetwise today. Took time and players stayed down when they needed it most and knocked the ball around very well.

  22. Obviously a moot point now, but had he not played for NI would McCann have been in with a shout too? Clearly Scotlands strongest area of the pitch, so unlikely, but a better option than say Fleck.

On the other Saints players, obviously Saints fans are biased and we see these guys every week, but even objectively it's hard to argue against at least one of the defensive players inclusion. Defence is Scotlands weakest area of the team and when there is a team with 3 Scottish CB's bossing most games and a scottish keeper behind them and none get a sniff, it's not difficult to see why fans ask the questions as to why they might get overlooked.
