  1. What's noteworthy is that over the last 5 years, it has become normalised to compare everything to a genocide or holocaust, particularly amongst the right. This minimises what these actually are. I'd hope it was just a lack of ability to fully express something someone may not like. However, I cannot help but think it's not unintentional and is either to provoke people who it offends or keep happy those who deny these things and/or do not feel they were as bad as any normal human being does.

When we stumble blindly into forgetting the horrors of history, we all suffer in the long term.

Douglas Ross equating low intelligence and working class and parading it as some kind of win over the SNP is a weird turn of events

Yeah, seems a really strange hill for him to die on here. I think he and his party mis interpreted what was being said as a slight on working class people.

If they wanted a stick to beat her with, they should have said she is calling the whole of the scottish folk thick, which she was not, but would have been a better attack.

Interesting that the Tories connection is to take questioning someones intelligence as an attack on 'working class'. Inicates they see the 'working class' as less intelligent.

As an aside, the working class term is as about relative as Douglas Ross. I'd argue it is completely redundant in the 21st century.

Why would you point the camera at the only empty stand at Starks? Similarly with Firhill, the main stand has been the fullest when I've been.

Also do you realise that it's microphones and not cameras that pick up sound?

Of course, not all stands are used all the time or necessarily full, more mean the optics.

As for the sounds, appreciate they use side of pitch microphones etc, but equally, like pitodrie for example, you get the background noise through the commentators mic. Just always think it sounds better when the fans are under the camera position.

I'm in the minority but I quite like astro pitches and I certainly prefer playing on them. Granted, as a person that's never played above Sunday League (and being a goalkeeper), I'm used to shite grass pitches. Most grass pitches at that level tend to have a giant fucking rock embedded into the 6 yard box just waiting all pointedly for you to land on it.

I've played at Tannadice & Station Park several times. There's definitely a different bounce on astro pitches but the quality was higher than United's bumpy mess.

Dens (until last season) used to be considered one of the best pitches in the country and always looks immaculate, but I remember running onto the pitch after we won the league in 2014 and being shocked at how bad a state it was in that close up.

If we could have completely immaculate pitches all year round then grass wins every day of the week, but in Scotland I don't think that's really feasible. Don't get the furore people have over plastic pitches. Perhaps the hybrid set ups are the way forward?

I think you have hit the nail on the head here. Given how bad some grass pitches are, bar the early months if the season, artificial pitches are a better option. Had the same ad you re going in the pitch. From the stand, Mcdiarmid looked alright when I was on it a couple of years ago, but up close it was shocking.

On the artificial pitches, I think the players who have grown up using them won't mind playing on them, but the current/older players will always be unsure. Anyone over say 30 will remember the old sandpaper like solid astro pitches.

I think aesthetics plays a decent part though tbh, especially when we struggle to market the scottish game. Going off point a fair bit but its the same when you see the main camera gantry being in the largest stand  at places. Most of the game is focussed on a smaller stand with less people in it, just doesn't sell our game well at all.

I always think that too. Firhill for example would look better with the camera in the main stand. Some places, the opposite would be true. Starks park would be better on the main stand side, so you don't see the street and St Johnstone and Dundee United would have a better atmosphere on TV if the camera was the side where most fans are.

I can assure you it's the exact opposite feeling. Watching Lyndon Dykes lift the ball over Fraser Forster's head into the same goal I'd scored just 2 days before was a great feeling. Not many people will be able to play a game on their team's home pitch.

Glad that's the case. I always just thought it would feel less 'special' but maybe as you say, it goes the other way, you see something great and then you are on the same pitch.

Have no massive issue as long as the pitches are of a good enough quality.

I get the point someone raised about floodlights. Game needs to evolve and it does. Astro pitches were and are  required  for some, but equally, the availability of pitch heat lamps etc also helps clubs use pitches more and ensures better quality. The right balance is a mix of all of it

I think that tracksuit was from around the early 'nineties, perhaps 91-92.

I think you are spot on. I think we had them for Euro 92. I thought Killie just put those seats in the main stand when they did the rest of the ground up, which was a few years later, but it must have been earlier than I thought. I had a memory of sitting on wooden seats around the time Tommy Burns was manager, but could have been before.

As an aside, Rugby park is a massively under rated ground. If that was in say Stirling or Falkirk, it would be used pretty much every year for semi finals.

If Killie had only been able to go the full length down the side, surely would have been 20k? Even now, I think you could build a decent chunk of uncovered rail seating at the end of the stand which would be cracking, although completely unnecessary.

  8. In an ideal world, we wouldn't have them, but unfortunately finances dictate that for some clubs, they are a must. It would be interesting to see how much someone like Killie makes from theirs, or is the big benefit the saving to the club on training facilities. In the top flight, there should be a minimum quality requirement, I.e nothing less than 4g.

For clubs further down the scale, these must be a game changer in terms of rental income, training facilities and avoided maintenance costs.

Someone like Montrose must go from c50-100 hours of use on a grass pitch to at least 10 times that on the astro pitch.

If the larger clubs are dead set against the top flight having no pitches, then they should forgoe a chunk of cash from sponsors/prizes, to be put into a pot to cover the costs of promoted teams having to rip them up and relay them if relegated.

Personally, I'd be gutted if my club opted for one. Aside from (in my opinion) not giving as good a game, it would diminish a bit the feeling of watching a home game if say for example you yourself played a 7 a side game on the same pitch every week.

    Nice and subtle Callum 😂

Ha ha, thing is the player he is eluding to is the sort of player who this slight would destroy his confidence.

Callum probably looked at it with a memory of his own time at saints. He was nearly out the door to Forfar when Euan Donaldson was preffered to him but he knuckled down and it didn't end too badly for him!

Charles Paterson following Bryan Swanson and Jim White in leaving Sky Sports in recent weeks - what's going on?

Sky sports news is just basically a 24/7 advert for games the man sports channels are plugging. Ultimately they could operate with no actual front of camera staff and it would make little difference. I doubt the channel itself makes much money, so maybe these guys have gone as part of an overall tidy up. You would be amazed at how low Sky sports news and Sky News's viewing figures are.

The Old Firm unite to unveil a floral display at Rugby Park and also launch a campaign promoting the slaughter of rare sea birds or something...

I assume that given they are in scotland tracksuits they are on Scotland duty, but the 'balance' of a player from each of the old firm always did/does my head in. Like in those pics, did they think if it was only McCoist then Celtic fans would kill puffins out of spite or vice versa?

Even now you get it, but it's usually some washed up long forgotten players wearing whatevers sponsors t shirt. Roll out someone like Anton Rogan or Terry Hurlock and ask them what they think of whichever one is playing vs St Mirren and expect them to rattle of some knowledgable insight into the fixture and what dangers St Mirren have!!

Anyhow, do Killie not still have a floral display in the same place?

be shocked if any pay at gates - club needs details of folk in each seat and cash handling an increase risk seemingly for staff

I'd imagine the 'pay at the gate' will be more like selling on line tickets, which will require the details to be added etc. That's what was happening pre covid anyway and will be why the deadline for season ticket holders.

  13. What's the deal if a club cannot fulfil a fixture due to either a covid outbreak or a travel restriction? I.E does the 3-0 award also award the coefficient points or us there some adjustments?

Can see that becoming an issue as clubs get to autumn winter period.

You've gone so far down your "Alexander is out his depth" rabbit hole now despite being given demonstrable facts you've started eating carrots and humping your sister.

Ha ha, quite possibly. I actually quite like him. At least he has got something about him. I'd imagine as a player or a journalist, you'd know where you stand with him.

Anyone who looks at the list of managers and decides Graham Alexander is the obvious candidate as "out of their depth",  is either a moron or stupid.

Hiya! It's an opinion and one I can only base on what I have seen of him. Not suggesting he isn't fit to manage a team as he clearly is, but the impression I have if him (admittedly not backed up by stats) is one of a guy who doesnt cope well under pressure, hence 'out of his depth'. A few times last season he got sent to stand it certainly came close to it, which from what limited amount I saw of Motherwell stuck out. I get frustrations etc, but that doesnt help the team.

Clearly he is a man who can pick a team, but given he tends to only last a couple of seasons before getting fired, you could come to the conclusion he can maybe pick an underperforming team and get them playing, but maybe cannot either keep it going or identify the right replacements.

  16. Pretty happy with that kit. Makes a bit of a change from white or yellow and certainly takes it back to the first couple of season at McD.

As per the above question, yes, I believe the yellow kit becomes the European kit. Saints have in the last few seasons recycles the prior years away kit as a 3rd.

Both kits pretty decent this year and for the first time actually matches the technicolor seats!

Aberdeen I have to say are smashing it out of the park this year with home and away kits.

The same Alexander who has a 48% win rate and had the 3rd best points/form behind Rangers and Celtic from the point he took over?

    That Alexander?

The very one. Didnt appreciate that stat to be fair, but from what I saw of Motherwell and him in general, gave me the impression if a man out of his depth. Big challenge will be this season with mainly his players.

Always thought Robinson recruited well, if not a bit slowly, so Alexander had one if he better squads in the league to work with. Maybe slightly too many players?

Anyway, just a gut feel he will go first. Fells very Sandy Clark esque kind if character to me.

This photo led me down an internet rabbit hole about that stadium and everything related to it. Scotland played here in 1935 and twice in 1939. Third Lanark beat Birmingham City 4-1 here in 1960 and later than year Bangu of Brazil beat Kilmarnock 2-0.

The stadium looks to have been an amazing place under a bluff at the north end of Manhatten, just by the East River, and so much sporting history took place there. So quirky was its layout that the exit for fans in the main stands was across the pitch!

Every time I come on this thread it takes at least 2 hours of my life. It's fantastic. I'm amazed that people keep finding and posting such great photos.

When was the last time a non OF scottish team was 'invited' for an overseas glamour friendly? Excluding games at pre season training camps.

You would imagine Aberdeen will eventually play a game or two in Atlanta at some point.

Were Dundee not rumoured to be going to Boston a few years back?

Only player you would even consider out of that lot would be Hallberg, but you would not consider putting anything near a £250k value on him.

Fully expect McCart to be away by this time next year one way or another, but would rather it was not to a scottish team.

If Hibs seem to think they will get 7 figures for Porteous, stick at least 20% sell on to McCart in any deal as he is a much better player.
