  1. Glad that's the case. I always just thought it would feel less 'special' but maybe as you say, it goes the other way, you see something great and then you are on the same pitch. Have no massive issue as long as the pitches are of a good enough quality. I get the point someone raised about floodlights. Game needs to evolve and it does. Astro pitches were and are required for some, but equally, the availability of pitch heat lamps etc also helps clubs use pitches more and ensures better quality. The right balance is a mix of all of it
  2. I think you are spot on. I think we had them for Euro 92. I thought Killie just put those seats in the main stand when they did the rest of the ground up, which was a few years later, but it must have been earlier than I thought. I had a memory of sitting on wooden seats around the time Tommy Burns was manager, but could have been before. As an aside, Rugby park is a massively under rated ground. If that was in say Stirling or Falkirk, it would be used pretty much every year for semi finals. If Killie had only been able to go the full length down the side, surely would have been 20k? Even now, I think you could build a decent chunk of uncovered rail seating at the end of the stand which would be cracking, although completely unnecessary.
  3. In an ideal world, we wouldn't have them, but unfortunately finances dictate that for some clubs, they are a must. It would be interesting to see how much someone like Killie makes from theirs, or is the big benefit the saving to the club on training facilities. In the top flight, there should be a minimum quality requirement, I.e nothing less than 4g. For clubs further down the scale, these must be a game changer in terms of rental income, training facilities and avoided maintenance costs. Someone like Montrose must go from c50-100 hours of use on a grass pitch to at least 10 times that on the astro pitch. If the larger clubs are dead set against the top flight having no pitches, then they should forgoe a chunk of cash from sponsors/prizes, to be put into a pot to cover the costs of promoted teams having to rip them up and relay them if relegated. Personally, I'd be gutted if my club opted for one. Aside from (in my opinion) not giving as good a game, it would diminish a bit the feeling of watching a home game if say for example you yourself played a 7 a side game on the same pitch every week.
  4. I think it was a flat/house out at Kinfauns. Back in the day I think it used to be house(s) at huntingtower. Assume we wont announce him signing until he is done with quarantine.
  5. Ha ha, thing is the player he is eluding to is the sort of player who this slight would destroy his confidence. Callum probably looked at it with a memory of his own time at saints. He was nearly out the door to Forfar when Euan Donaldson was preffered to him but he knuckled down and it didn't end too badly for him!
  6. Sky sports news is just basically a 24/7 advert for games the man sports channels are plugging. Ultimately they could operate with no actual front of camera staff and it would make little difference. I doubt the channel itself makes much money, so maybe these guys have gone as part of an overall tidy up. You would be amazed at how low Sky sports news and Sky News's viewing figures are.
  7. I assume that given they are in scotland tracksuits they are on Scotland duty, but the 'balance' of a player from each of the old firm always did/does my head in. Like in those pics, did they think if it was only McCoist then Celtic fans would kill puffins out of spite or vice versa? Even now you get it, but it's usually some washed up long forgotten players wearing whatevers sponsors t shirt. Roll out someone like Anton Rogan or Terry Hurlock and ask them what they think of whichever one is playing vs St Mirren and expect them to rattle of some knowledgable insight into the fixture and what dangers St Mirren have!! Anyhow, do Killie not still have a floral display in the same place?
  8. I'd imagine the 'pay at the gate' will be more like selling on line tickets, which will require the details to be added etc. That's what was happening pre covid anyway and will be why the deadline for season ticket holders.
  9. What's the deal if a club cannot fulfil a fixture due to either a covid outbreak or a travel restriction? I.E does the 3-0 award also award the coefficient points or us there some adjustments? Can see that becoming an issue as clubs get to autumn winter period.
  10. Did it get extended at some point after this? Always seemed much bigger than in that photo, but maybe it wasnt and memory is a bit hazy.
  11. Think the top looks quite nice. Away tops are always a bit subjective though. What can start of as a bit if a meh to then become a classic depending on how well we do in it. See Liam craig in light blue away tops for reference.
  12. Ha ha, quite possibly. I actually quite like him. At least he has got something about him. I'd imagine as a player or a journalist, you'd know where you stand with him.
  13. Hiya! It's an opinion and one I can only base on what I have seen of him. Not suggesting he isn't fit to manage a team as he clearly is, but the impression I have if him (admittedly not backed up by stats) is one of a guy who doesnt cope well under pressure, hence 'out of his depth'. A few times last season he got sent to stand it certainly came close to it, which from what limited amount I saw of Motherwell stuck out. I get frustrations etc, but that doesnt help the team. Clearly he is a man who can pick a team, but given he tends to only last a couple of seasons before getting fired, you could come to the conclusion he can maybe pick an underperforming team and get them playing, but maybe cannot either keep it going or identify the right replacements.
  14. Pretty happy with that kit. Makes a bit of a change from white or yellow and certainly takes it back to the first couple of season at McD. As per the above question, yes, I believe the yellow kit becomes the European kit. Saints have in the last few seasons recycles the prior years away kit as a 3rd. Both kits pretty decent this year and for the first time actually matches the technicolor seats! Aberdeen I have to say are smashing it out of the park this year with home and away kits.
  15. The very one. Didnt appreciate that stat to be fair, but from what I saw of Motherwell and him in general, gave me the impression if a man out of his depth. Big challenge will be this season with mainly his players. Always thought Robinson recruited well, if not a bit slowly, so Alexander had one if he better squads in the league to work with. Maybe slightly too many players? Anyway, just a gut feel he will go first. Fells very Sandy Clark esque kind if character to me.
  16. Martindale, but not for anything to do with on the pitch.... On the pitch, will be Alexander. Wasnt great last season and hasn't recruited early enough or well enough. To me, seems out of his depth.
  17. When was the last time a non OF scottish team was 'invited' for an overseas glamour friendly? Excluding games at pre season training camps. You would imagine Aberdeen will eventually play a game or two in Atlanta at some point. Were Dundee not rumoured to be going to Boston a few years back?
  18. Only player you would even consider out of that lot would be Hallberg, but you would not consider putting anything near a £250k value on him. Fully expect McCart to be away by this time next year one way or another, but would rather it was not to a scottish team. If Hibs seem to think they will get 7 figures for Porteous, stick at least 20% sell on to McCart in any deal as he is a much better player.
  19. United fans, aww bless. Mind when united were relevant. Maybe when the merger happens they will have something meaningful to shout about.
  20. I think it will allow the likes of Ferguson to shine a bit more too. I tend to find Saints get more out of other midfielders in our games when Liam Craig plays. He just seems to be there too, bit more importantly, he protects others around him by being the guy snarling and moaning at the ref, letting others just get on with their game. Brown will do the same for you guys, which is something you have been missing for a long time. As an opposition fan it totally enraged you, but great when it's one if your own players.
  21. As a non Aberdeen fan, it looks night and day vs last season. I think under Mcinnes you would have sat in at 2-0 and tried to see out the game, but that was a team that recognised they were on top and kept going and have essentially killed the tie already. Bonus is that a lot if their players looked knackered or took a few knocks. As much as he is a total pr!ck, Brown looked to give you a backbone you have been missing for a long long time.
  22. There is something in this. Over 2 legs beating them would be a tough ask, but in a single game..... especially after they get a roasting from their own fans if they get beat from PSV again. If we do play over 2 legs, then we should play it somewhere cold and northern. Iceland maybe? Make them travel as far as we can and also in conditions that are an advantage to us. No point in going to Croatia or Malta where we will be at a disadvantage with the heat. I'm sure Galatasary will look to keep the game as close to them and not make it easy for us. Its not like they will look to play their home leg in Norway or anything. Time Scottish club got a bit more clever about the gamesmanship side of things.
  23. There is a review on 31st July and then would apply from the 5th, so might just sneak in. Alternatively, given UEFA pretty much run the UK govt, they may demand games can take place and clubs are exempt.
  24. I wonder if this could be the hold up for him signing on somewhere. If the level of clubs reported to be interesting in him are correct, then a reasonably small fee, say £500k wouldn't put them off, but if there is a sense that it could turn into some big legal battle and a much larger compensation fee at the end of it, then some clubs will be put off. Personally, I'd rather he stayed abroad and moved to a larger club. I think it probably benefits the national team to have players playing in different leagues and styles, the player himself and also likely scottish football. At the moment (well until recently) the only viable destination for players in Scotland has been England. If someone like Gauld can settle and be a success in other countries, clubs will maybe consider Scottish players more, the players will see it as an option and in turn, this should drive the demand and value up of our players. Guys like Gauld and Barry Douglas make it easier for others to follow them.
  25. But now with Saints having the freedom of Perth, we can surely do whatever we want? If I was Dundee (after having a good wash) I would be looking into costing up putting some cheap seating in the open bit at the side of the Derry. If it only cost say £20k for a couple of hundred socially distanced seats, that might allow them to make that back over the season assuming there may be some form of restrictions coming and going all season. I wonder if PKC were maybe monitoring the Preston game to see how it all went with fans entering and exiting the ground. If they were happy it all went well, then surely there should be no problem increasing it to say 4-5k, which in reality would be enough for most home games.
