I think he offers more up front than Paton and it could possibly work with Reilly if they had the support from the midfield. I have doubts about Paton, his first touch is awful at times.

Ruth doesn’t fill me with any confidence he is going to score many goals. I think we better pray the lad from Blackpool is good or it’s looking a long bleak season ahead.

Takes a round and much more of games to take shape, Pars folk I know creaming after 3 games was laughable, still football fans on a whole are like that.

A referees guidance is to protect players welfare and McCann was in some discomfort, don't think Morrison showed similar discomfort, obviously in pain but McCann's pain was greater hence protect players welfare.

The Reilly foul was nowhere similar to the one against Falkirk. Reilly was fortunate not to be booked for previous, which was maybe a reason he was hooked early.....or being ineffective.

The ref may have got a few wrong, they all do but nothing was detriment to the game, that is all you can hope for.

There was no Dykes diving for a penalty scenario for sure

Yes I totally agree, one player rolled about and made it look good to get the game stopped and then played on for the majority of the game the other  attempted to get back up but couldn’t continue.

I think this might be the worst Queens defence I’ve seen in my lifetime. Shocking performances this afternoon. McKenna did fine, the rest were pish. McKay and Morrison being out is unfortunate for them personally, but probably good for the team. Gibson going to have to think about playing himself at right back. Special mention to Cochrane for spending 45 minutes chasing shadows and not putting in a tackle the full second half.

Was it Paton that missed that chance at 2-1? Needs to improve his finishing. Connelly needs to start from next week.

Fair play to Falkirk though. We had our tails up and deserved our goal, but they totally dominated the last twenty minutes and looked really composed. Really professional performance.

Does Cochrane do anything except what you mention above ? Just when you think after that first half display it can’t get any worse you then see Cochrane ready to come on 🤦🏼‍♂️😳

Was the wall set correct for the free kick that resulted in the goal? Also as bad as the palm out by Currie was a bit disappointed no Queens player reacted either to the spill

I'd like to see the foul again tbh. He was probably fouled but it did look like he scuffed the ground trying to take the shot.

Wilson had a tiny tug of the shirt but I don’t think it was a foul as it didn’t stop Frizzell advancing. He let go and Frizzell ran another 3/4 yards got a shot away which was blocked for a corner. Thought that was maybe advantage enough but can’t complain about the referee today he was one of the better ones I have seen and gave us a couple of good advantages too.

  5. Maybe a little early to start slating players and writing them off but 3/4 players just aren’t going to cut it if we have any aspirations of play offs/promotion.

Currie is an absolute bombscare and his mistake today looks typical of what we will see on more than a few occasions this season.  We are already so fragile at the back he just isn’t good enough and doesn’t inspire confidence in the players ahead of him. Seeing him now I think Airdrie would have won the league last season with anyone else between the sticks.

McKenna in the first half was all over the place and was getting another Clyde style roasting, lost count of the amount of times he lost the ball in a tackle or just passed the ball straight to an Airdrie player or out the park. Firmly in the Ryan Muir surely must be given a chance soon camp as I would much rather develop our own young player than watch this charlatan stink the place out every week.

Can anyone point me in the direction of anything Harry Cochrane has done well this season ? Possible he was ill today, as he looked even further off the pace than usual, yes it was extremely hot but he had his hands on his head a couple of times and seemed to be really struggling before being hooked. I think we all know Cochrane wouldn’t be here unless he had a massive drop off in his output,  it’s actually getting a bit worrying that he keeps turning out the same insipid displays almost every week and showing no signs of the exciting prospect that burst on to the scene for Hearts.

I was actually quite pleased when Paul McKay was announced as staying on for this season, well that was short lived. The back 3 has been an absolute disaster so I’m hoping it’s a 4-4-2 from now on after the improved second half, McKay was about the only player today that carried that first half performance into the second and was as bad if not worse in the second half. That isn’t a one off though I think he has looked really shaky this season and all over the place (possibly playing as the left side of the centre back pairing) at times today.

Special mentions for Todd and McKechnie, they grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck when coming on and it lifted almost the whole team. Possibly unlucky not to grab a winner late on if it wasn’t for a wonder save from a Mckechnie shot with the outside of his foot. Must win next week at Peterhead where surely we ditch the back 5 experiment and set up with a 4-4-2.

There is a definite look of “we’ve chucked it” at our 4th goal.

Tbf though Mckenna defended like that for the previous 90 odd minutes so hard to tell if he had chucked it or not.

Who could’ve guessed, Currie not coming out for a crossemoji33.png

Currie was far from the worst performer yesterday regardless of the score.

I’m not for a second blaming the guy for yesterday as it wasn’t his fault but his saves to shots on target ratio must be fairly poor. Ayr game aside where he just seemed to save/get in the way of everything he faced he just doesn’t look like he fills the goals to me. That first goal definitely caught him off guard but it’s not even close to the corner and he gets a decent hand to it. I actually missed the Annan and St Johnstone games but heard he didn’t exactly cover himself in glory.

Big few weeks coming up that’s for sure.

It was but where did the build up come from? Failure of the right back to cut out the cross . 3 of the 4 goals came from the right back positions failure.  He was getting ripped apart every attack. Wasn't  hard to fix, just get Gibson back there for all he was doing in midfield...

The boy that ripped him for arse paper couldn’t score though, the two in the middle have to do more. McKay escapes a little blame for me as if he commits himself to go and help Mckenna (who badly needed it) he leaves the boy alone at the back post. I think he maybe thought if I stay here I might be able to cut out the cross.

    Superb strike 👏

I noticed the name and thought we had someone with a similar name on our bench first half of last season (never got on the pitch though). Yes we let him go in the summer and he was obviously fired up going by his twitter post.

Pathetic. Utterly utterly pathetic. Again, take nothing away from Clyde, 4-1 flattered us if anyone but 4 completely preventable goals from our point of view.

1st - Again, why the f**k did McKechnie leave the post? The danger clearly wasn't gone and he never left for a valid reason. Stay where you are ffs and that's a simple clearance. Paton completely loses his man as well.

2nd - Called it the minute Clyde broke. It felt like everyone around me was shouting what was coming yet McKay and Quitongo failed to pick up the man at the back post. McKay more to blame as there was absolutely no reason why he couldn't come across to mark him instead of ball-watching with no one near him. Quitongo taking his foot off the pedal on his tracking back pissed me off as well.

3rd - Complete clusterfuck. Shit clearance by McKenna, Cochrane brushed off the ball, and the backline utterly clueless positionally.

4th - McKenna allowing the boy all the time in the world to pick his spot. Currie suspect as well.

Had calmed down a bit today but those goals have really set me off again. Get Gibson to RB and East at LB next week ffs.

The other option I thought was -

    Muir at right back

one of the McKays probably Dave but on the right hand side please as he was all over the place at times.

East left centre back preferably but if sticks with the two McKays then would like East at left back.

Gibson at left back. Yes it’s far from ideal but I think I would want Willie on the park, he looked lost in centre mid so has to be right or left back for me. He actually filled in quite well at left back last season when needed.

We badly need a right winger and probably another central midfielder with some more grit. Wilson will help but will he be fit for majority of the season ? Cochrane isn’t good enough, too slow, absolute powderpuff and his passing yesterday at times was dog shit. The 90 minutes yesterday won’t define our season but unless we drop the main culprits for next week they will no doubt think they are bulletproof and turn in that nonsense on a consistent basis.

We need another CM for me and winger/attacker. Thats possibly before looking at defensive cover. Imo. Not sold on Quitongo as the left sided option.

Watch his tracking back/positioning for the Clyde second goal, almost as embarrassing as McKennas efforts to stop the header for number 4.

  11. Where to start with that absolute embarrassment ? Summed up by the fact that the Clyde left back looks one of the worst footballers I have seen for a long time but Danny Lennon (a proper manager) hooked him before he caused too much damage. Then at least 5 of our own players said you think he was bad “hold my beer”, funnily enough I wondered if a few of them were still hungover from last night.

How McKenna, Connor Murray and Cochrane lasted the 90 minutes was beggars belief. We had Muir, Gibson and McMahon who couldn’t possibly have been any worse sitting twiddling their thumbs on the bench. It’s too early to panic about relegation but in a few weeks time it might not be. Left before the red card so can’t comment but sounds like it was a moment of madness which leaves us even shorter for next week.

I was looking forward to league 1 this season as it was a fresh start and I maybe wrongly assumed we would be more competitive. I hope to god I’m overreacting and we will improve.

Well, that was a short one, wasn't it?

The Draw for the 2nd Round will take place right after the Abrdeen Game tomorrow (24th July 2022) do around 5pm. It will be shown live on Premier Sports, with other places reporting on it.

Since the final draw will be determined by tomorrow's Draw, here is the Probable seedings.

    Seeded

    • Celtic
    • Rangers
    • Hearts
    • Dundee United
    • Motherwell
    • Arbroath
    • Dundee
    • Aberdeen or Ross County

    Unseeded

    • Aberdeen or Ross County
    • Partick Thistle
    • Kilmarnock
    • Inverness CT
    • Arbroath
    • Falkirk
    • Livingston
    • Queen of the South or Raith Rovers**

Here is how the permutations could work.

*If Aberdeen win, hey will be seeded. If they Draw then Ross County would be seeded by either goal Difference or points. A loss would still result in Aberdeen progressing.

**A Raith Rovers win would mean qualification over Queen of the South (Raith would have 9 points and QotS would have 8). A Draw will not help as QOTS have the better Goal Difference or Raith would be 1 point behind.

A small note, while it wouldn't make much difference, a 5+ goal victory would allow Raith to over take Aberdeen for the top spot. A Raith Win would stop both teams from being seeded, as well as a draw.

Again, this will all be confirmed just before the draw so this will be the most accurate details until then.who would you want?

Ideally I would like Annan or Arbroath Away. Good to get an nice away visit to those places.

A draw and penalty win for Raith would see them qualify ahead of us.

Fair chance that’s Afolabi I think.

I don’t think it’s Afolabi, I didn’t recognise this guy at all and looked a bit like the boy pictured a couple of pages back. The trialist tonight was played upfront and not midfield though so maybe not the same guy.

10 year deal for Lewis Gibson please 😍😍😍

None of them are clear cut chances in the ‘should have scored’ category. Half chances at best.
The best chances of the game that weren’t taken were the Duffy header at the back post which was well saved and the miraculous goal line clearance from Hanley. Gordon also made a decent save down low before they scored that was harder work than anything we made their keeper do and they hit the bar from a corner when we got a very soft foul.
I didn’t feel we were at all unfortunate. No dodgy refereeing decisions to blame, no hard luck stories, no what ifs.
    Just humped.

So majority of those chances were after the first 20/30 I mentioned, yes we were shit but my point was they definitely weren’t much better than us if anything.

What chances did we have? The two McGinn shots from outside the box and…?

One was a free shot from 18 yards with nobody really putting him under pressure, we had the Duffy mix up where only luck got them out unscathed. Robertson also had a shot charged down from about 11/12 yards when in acres of space. I didn’t claim we were all over them but I thought we shaded the game very slightly and didn’t deserve to be 2-0 down on the balance of play.

Watching the highlights, what's especially galling is that despite being much better than us, you could clearly see that this Irish side really is pretty poor.

Neither side could successfully play it out from the back, while both sides treated us to some bloody awful passing generally.

We managed to combine an inability to retain the ball with a willingness to stand off them when the Irish had it.  Really lousy stuff.

I'm not sure where we go from here (apart from Armenia of course).

Said to my mates in the ground (home end) that there really wasn’t that much between the two teams. All around us waxing lyrical about the players and manager was a bit baffling as we probably shaded the chances and game in the first 20-30 minutes and found ourselves two down. Two poor teams is the reality of it but Ireland were clinical and by the end probably deserved the win.

Stenhousemuir FC have signed Niyah Joseph.

I don't know too much about him but what can we expect? Is he "good"? Can he do it on a cold Tuesday night in Stranraer?

Good luck, he showed some flashes of a player being in there somewhere but wasn’t given enough of a chance and mostly when he did he was poor. League 2 maybe closer to his level, who knows we might resign him when we get there.

  18. 59 minutes ago, Ayr23 said:

Thank f**k we got that point. The biggest talking point though... How on Earth did Gibson not get at least a booking for catching the ball in play? Willie Collum is a truly awful referee.

Collum came to speak to Bullen and said it’s in a nothing area and the ball was flying five yards out the park and he didn’t attempt to handball it to take any advantage although it was a strange thing to do from Gibson.

I couldn’t see from my side but did we have a decent handball shout in the area near the end of the half ? Collum managed to miss a clear shirt pull then the player let go just as Junior went down.
