  1. Not aff it, just not tried anything new. Thanks for the heads up on Aldi's Scottish ale festival.
  2. Had a bottle of this recently. 6.5 /10 It would make a good summer drink but Williams Bros. Grozet is better.
  3. Not being funny here. What was she meant to have done to prevent a nuclear war? Site cruise missiles in the UK perhaps?
  4. I had the misfortune to suffer from her policies. I would argue that we are all still suffering from them. Her deregulation of the financial sector in this country led to a lack of accountability which then led to unfettered greed and mismanagement on an epic scale which was the genesis of the current financial crisis IMO. My abiding memory of the character of her policies and their implementation was the malevolence associated with the politics. I don't remember a time before or after her reign where this was the case. I'm not generally one for celebrating a death. However in her case I'm making an exception. A wee night cap of the Balvennie for me and a toast to a Thatcher free world.
  5. Yep took my boy to see it too. I thought it was very dun dun da! 7/10
  6. Had a Williams bros Grozet with a curry tonight. Lovely, very refreshing, made with gooseberries. I'll be having that again.
  7. Snow ploughs in Largs today. The snow was lying on top of the water of the River Clyde, I have never seen that before. It's belting down again. Apparently Arran is bad with power cuts common. Think I'll stay put this weekend.
  8. Williams Bros, Good Times at £1.39 a bottle. (Aldi). Tryst brewery have a nice IPA offering called Raj can't remember if that was bought at Morrisons or ASDA.
  9. Here's why from Wikipedia Beer is a major part of German culture. For many years German beer was brewed in adherence to the Reinheitsgebot order or law which only permitted water, hops and malt as beer ingredients. The order also required that beers not exclusively using barley-malts such as wheat beer must be top-fermented.[1] Since 1993, the production of beer has been governed by the Provisional German Beer Law which allows a greater range of ingredients(only in top-fermenting beers) and additives, that have to be completely, or at least as much as possible, removed from the final product.[2]
  10. From their website I noticed this Finally, the jewel in the crown is Odell Deconstruction. A 10.5% Golden Ale aged in wine barrels. It was created by blending the final recipe beer with its own barrel aged pilot beers and was fermented with wild yeasts. A very special beer not to be missed! Odell Deconstruction was one of the beers at the recent tasting in the Good Spirit Company. It was amazing. But at £18 a bottle I passed on buying some.
  11. This used to be my local. It used to be privately owned and was then sold on to a brewery. When it was privately owned, it had a very extensive range of beer and whisky. It also used to have De Konick (sp) belgian beer on tap, which was fantastic.
  12. Just goes to show there is no accounting for taste. I think punk IPA is awful. I am a real fan of pale ale but I'm afraid Punk had me really struggling to finish the bottle.
  13. Indeed at £1.39 a pop in Aldi's you know it makes sense. I'm not a huge fan of their darker offerings as I have said before on this thread, I find them overcarbonated for my taste. Of the darks beers I have tried, March of the Penguins is the better than Midnight Sun imo.
  14. Just downed a bottle of Williams bros, Good Times, pale ale. Lovely, right up there with Deuchars imo. 8.5/10 Wish I had bought more than one There is still a bottle of 7 giraffes Would those in the know describe 7 giraffes as a bitter?
  15. They hold regular tastings. I think they do a rota of whisky tasting/ brandy/gin/vodka/beer see the link below tastings Their next beer tasting is sold out already! Never mastered multiquote. To the poster that asked if I had tried Brewdog End of Times beer I haven't. If you drank more than a bottle of the xmas brew you'd think it was the end of times I reckon
  16. On a similar theme, I went to a beer tasting night at the Good Spirits shop , Bath St, Glasgow on Friday night. Got to taste 10 beers for a tenner. A good night, I bought a couple of bottles of Pale Ale and a couple of bottles of Porter after the the tasting. Was really impressed with the Fallen Brewery's Grapevine pale ale. Of the ten beers at the tasting the last five were all over 10% with a brewdog xmas brew weighing in at 15%. It was on sale a £10 for a 330 ml bottle.
  17. Life of Pi - Absolutely glorious cinematography and a real delight to watch in 3D. It's a nice story and the performances were good. Again, maybe fifteen minutes or so could have been cut out (the scenes on the boat with the tiger) and not detracted from the quality of the film. I also thought the ambiguous ending was a bit pretentious, but obviously the film can't be faulted for interpreting the book. Excellent overall, although I suspect it may fall just a bit short of winning the Oscar for Best Film. 8/10 Couldn't have put it better. I went to see it with high expectations which usually leads to disappointment. Even in 2D, it was sumptuous cinematography. I would go as far as to say the best cinematography that I have experienced. I expected a 10/10 movie for me it was a 7/10.
  18. I used to get that on draught at the Clockwork Beer Company in Cathcart. It is my favourite draught beer. Thanks for reminding me. Don't know if it is available in bottles.
  19. Seriously lucky getting it for that!! A colleague of mine won a bottle at a posh raffle. I googled it to find it retailed at £60+. Saw a bottle in Newcastle for £70 at the weekend. Anyhoo I bought the bottle from my colleague for £30 and I have to say it is a very, very, nice whisky IMO

  21. Cheers Tried a couple of other offerings from the Tryst Brewery. Brockville Dark and Raj Pale Ale. Both are very quaffable.
  22. Had a pint of Tryst Drovers 80 shilling on draft at the weekend at the Brown Bull in Lochwinnoch. Absolutely gorgeous!! My mate had a pint of Happy Chappy don't know who the brewer is. It's a decent pale ale reminscent of Deuchars IPA.
