Follow Follow Rangers. Season 2024/25

Bringing in the likes of Kamara, Jones, Stewart and Hastie isnt going to win them anything. All are decent players, but none have ever given the merest hint of a suggestion theyvwill be good enough to give Rangers their first trophy. Signing Jones, Stewart and Bachmann would be nothing more than an attempt to weaken teams around them. -

Now public knowledge Danny Swanson is up in court for assaulting a bouncer in an Edinburgh pub, just days after we lost 2-1 to Hibs. Hes already losing the support with his insipid performances, and the manager has to be losing patience too. The chairman will probably wanting wages brought down this Summer too and will be nagging the manager about who to cut loose. Silly boy. -

Have to free up wages to pay for Andrew Davies' surgeries, I suppose. -
Got Scotland to Euro 2020 through the Nations League, scudding Finland then Albania in the final stages. We'd finished behind 3rd in a group of Holland, Wales, Azerbaijan and Macedonia. We got a group of England, Wales and Austria. Lost 1-0 to Austria, drew 1-1 with Wales, then lost 2-0 to England. Ended up winning a Division B group of us, Bosnia and Sweden, so think I maybe get a second shot at WC qualifying through that? Either way I'll be roundly humped in the top division next time around. WC Qualifying group is Poland, Greece, Estonia and Hungary. Already lost to Poland away, but then beat Greece at home before playing them away a few days later and drawing 1-1, so should be in place for at least 2nd and a play off place. Been giving young players a go. Billy Gilmour and Harry Cochrane both capped a few times, while McCrorie, Morgan and Mikey Johnston all have ~20 caps in 2021. This is my biggest gamble though, gave him his first cap at 16, when he was still in Hibs youth and before he'd even made a senior appearance. Since then hes moved to Liverpool and come on shit tonnes. None of the standard players look like they'll be any use, apart from Ben House who might be sort of useful, so I'm hoping this guy keeps developing by getting loan time away from Liverpool (scored 8 in 15 in EFL League One after January) and by playing for Scotland.

Motherwell FC - A Thread For All Seasons
RandomGuy. replied to Casagolda's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
I've always wondered about how binding those clauses are. If he agreed a PCA with Wigan, but later triggered the extension clause, could Motherwell legally challenge his transfer? We had a clause with Tade, but the player refused the option and he left. -

I didn't mean we'll sign him ahead of you, just that I wouldnt be surprised at the signing of him if it happened. I expected us to sign Don Cowie though, so I'm usually miles out. -

I can fully imagine TW signing him. We've tried to get and Darian MacKinnon under him. Wouldnt be surprised if we moved for Cammy Kerr either, FWIW. -

Fun fact... Motherwell away. Swanson subbed on after 68 minutes. Motherwell open scoring on 70 minutes. Hibernian home. Swanson subbed on at 84 minutes. Hibernian score winner on 86 minutes. Aberdeen home. Swanson subbed on at 72 minutes. Aberdeen score on 75 minutes. Rangers home. Swanson subbed on 82 minutes. Rangers score on 88 minutes. Hearts away. Swanson subbed on at 58 minutes. Hearts score on 64 minutes. He seems to be becoming more of a jinx as the season goes on. -

Just seen the Saints TV interview, ends with a bang... Cant help but feel the obvious people that final comment is referring to O'Halloran and Swanson, who haven't done a single thing of note since signing. -

Tbf I was steaming when I posted at some random time this morning, and had just had a delightful kebab. The world seemed like a beautiful place, and it didn't feel right to put too much negativity into that. I'm hungover now though, so I'm back to hoping hes got them in training today, although I'd hope he hasn't even bothered asking some of them to turn up. -

Confidence is gone, which is huge. We have no real leaders left either. Not sure we'll be relegated next season, but cant see us challenging the top half either. Wright has always come up to the plate when we've needed it most, I've no doubts he'll do the same this Summer. Next season we'll be starting with a fully fit O'Halloran, Swanson and Wright to compliment Kennedy. If he gets the rest of the midfield right, and has the bollocks to use what he has, we'll have an enjoyable season. -

Hes got 0 assists this season, fwiw. In terms of goal involvement (goals + assists), in the league, he's level with Jason Kerr, Scott Tanser and David McMillan. Wotherspoon, Craig, Watt, Kennedy and Kane all been involved in more goals. McMillan is the best in terms of "involvement per minutes", followed by Chris Kane. Both had less minutes than Alston. -

Youve not signed Alston, you're vying with Shrewsbury for him. -

It was earlier on in the season, he didn't make the bench in 5 games in a row. Hes played in 5 out of our 8 winless games since the break. -

I've always said Alston is a decent player. He has no idea of his best position though, and that's massively held him back. Hes now a 27yo who's spent the past three seasons being shuffled around right back, right wing, and central midfield, and not earned a first team spot anywhere. As an "attacking goal getting midfielder", hes never scored more than 4 in a season for Saints. I dont see a weakness at Dundee he addresses. -

Hes the opposite tbf, you often forget hes on the pitch until he almost rifles one in. I, genuinely, forgot we had him at the club earlier this season, then he reappeared with an absolute screamer against Aberdeen. -
First episode I've watched, was on about 1 this morning so had it on. Burst out laughing so loud at the Dunfermline fans "aww naw, no him" video I woke up my girlfriend.

I'd be wary, hes one of those players who, like Scougall, becomes a better player when they aren't playing. Hes dreadful on the wing as hes no pace and keeps going backwards, and in a midfield two hes a liability, as he simply cant track runners or close down players on the ball, he just runs to about three yards of them and hits some invisible wall that prevents him going further. Play him as a 10 and you might get something, but youd have to wonder why Tommy Wright has never played him there over the past 3 seasons if that's his best position. Hes got 9 goals and 8 assists in 94 league games for us.
