  1. Not sure what you’re meaning here. If a business fails then of course the party who has the most invested has the most to lose and I doubt any business owner deliberately wants their business to fail. The fact is, though, some businesses do fail. My reply was to someone asking why supporters care about club finances because they didn’t worry about this kind of thing in the past. None of us see the club accounts but we’ve seen enough Livingstons, Dundees and Gretnas over the past few years to spot similarities with clubs with large, potentially expensive squads who don’t have matching attendance figures. I don’t mind saying I’m concerned, especially since I doubt there is any cavalry waiting come riding over the horizon.
  2. He never owned the club. When he was alive there was no majority shareholder - inidividual shareholdings were capped under the club constitution. Where the old Airdrie was concerned, that change was the last act of Campbell Craig's board to enable someone to be able to come in and buy the club. Obviously the new club has had that setup from the start. Also, as I understand it, he bought players like Coyle from his own pocket and allowed them to play for Airdrie. Edited to say: it's probably also worth mentioning the blatantly obvious fact that we actually went bust - so maybe there's a reason some fans feel a wee bit more nervous about our financial viability these days.
  3. It would certainly prove that its not sustainable to run a large, unsuccessful squad. The sustainability of a smaller / more successful squad would still be an untested hypothesis.
  4. That's a pretty big assumption. Other than the fact that there is f**k all we can do about it if it isn't the case, I'm not sure I'm comfortable taking that one on trust.
  5. Can’t remember Ballantine having this size of squad on these crowd sizes.
  6. Yeah, dangerous game that, picking and choosing your customers. Especially when you don’t have many to start with. Even if this isn’t connected with recent arguments, anyone who isn’t an idiot would know that this timing sucks. I can imagine certain bolshie Airdrie fans congregating in a boo boys area and taking pride in the fact.
  7. Have we received a clear definition of what kind of language constitutes abuse? I usually put my head in my hands each time we lose another goal from a corner. Will the stewards chuck me out for that display of passive aggression.
  8. Is it just me, or is Caledonian Braves a horribly NFL-ly name for a team.
  9. It’s all starting to add up. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49972094
  10. Just in case folk can't get enough of that Challenge Club banter. https://play.acast.com/s/thebackpage/790154e0-77a4-4bb5-9707-f9e372d4b181?autoplay
  11. I think this is something upon which we can all agree. What it is we're blaming them for isn't important. There are plenty of options to choose, like Brexit, sugar-free Irn Bru, and 4-0 humpings by Belgium.
  12. Out of interest, how many of those who played on Saturday have featured with any regularity in your 1st team?
  13. Because, in my (as Ammo points out) opinion, clubs/leagues shouldn't agree to participate in competitions that they can't give their full commitment to because they have "bigger priorities".
  14. And I'd have no problem being walloped by your best team - if that happens.
  15. I understand why clubs field weakened teams in some competitions (beyond the normal requirement to rest players) - they're taking a commercial decision. Kinda kills the point of the competition though if every team isn't competing to the best of its ability.
  16. One definition: "The manifestation of the ethics and values which promote community confidence in sports, including fair and honest performances and outcomes, unaffected by illegitimate enhancements or external interests".
  17. I'm not sure the phrase "sporting integrity" means what you think it means.
