  1. BBC News studios where you can see the newsroom and workers in the background during bulletins. I don't want to see the lazy b*****ds sitting at their desks drinking coffee or wandering aimlessly about taking the piss out of the licence fee payer. Plus it's bloody distracting when you're trying to concentrate on what the female newsreader is wearing saying.
  2. In TV soaps and plays when there is a controversial or distressing storyline a voice-over at the end tells us to contact crisis counsellors if we have been affected by the storyline yet very rarely do the people in the programme contact these counsellors. If they are so good why aren't they brought in to deal with the crisis. Why do people on TV soaps never watch soaps on the telly? How do people in soaps all manage to get jobs within a 100 yards of where they live? How can working families (or even non-working families) in soaps afford to go out to the local cafe so often to have breakfast/lunch/tea?
  3. If Mr. Fowler is pushed or jumps at the end of the season, or before that, I hope the BoD think carefully about his replacement. We are in danger of becoming a Club with a reputation of a high turnover in managers over the past few years, albeit some left to pursue "better" career opportunities. Maybe the days of Managers staying with a club for more than a season or two is a thing of the past, the same as players getting long contracts, but it would be nice to think that we could get a Manager in who would be allowed the time and resources to implement and see through a four or five year plan to take the Club to a higher level. At the moment we look like a Club thinking from year to year.
  4. No-one could accuse Hefferman of being a pacey striker but he does have a physical presence to hold off defenders, has quite good close control and can hold the ball up to make passes to attacking midfielders or a more mobile strike partner. As the saying goes, the legs may be gone but the football brain is still there. He didn't feature much for Queens but I felt he did ok when he did play. I'm not sure if he is a ninety minute player though.
  5. People who say that something enrages/pleases/ entertains them " on many levels", what does that even mean? It either slightly enrages you, mildly enrages you or gets right on your tits, but why "on many levels" . Just another modern phrase that people think is smart to use.
  6. If you have the older type wired up fuse put a thicker piece of wire in or span the contacts with a bit of tin foil. If you have the modern trip switch type fuse get a thin strip of wood or similar that is long enough to jam under the switch down to the floor or other surface and that will hold the switch up. You may notice a slight burning smell if you use these methods but that is perfectly normal.
  7. I'm asking this question on behalf of a friend but does anyone else think that old Judith from Eggheads would be a right posh filthy ride ?
  8. I'm not into Facebook and wouldn't know/not interested in getting on it. I may have exagerated the number of instances of this type of fraud for dramatic effect but I have read of a couple of cases in UK where this has happened. Thanks to SlipperyP for his links which suggest that this is no urban myth.
  9. If you have another room in your flat where the couch is can you not move your bed into that room for the sake of a few days? Maybe the couch room is shared accommodation or the room may be too small for the bed or the bed may not be able to be moved.
  10. I wouldnae trust the b*****ds either. There have been cases reported of shop assistants saying that lottery tickets are not winners and then cashing them in themselves. I always watch them rip the ticket up if they say it's not a winner. On most occasions I check my own ticket. I was unfortunate enough to get stuck behind an old gentleman in ocseT last week who had about 10 tickets he wanted checked and of course there was only one assistant on duty. After the tickets were checked the customer asked for so many tickets for one draw, so many for another draw and then asked for one of every scratchcard on the display, about £60 he spent but it must have taken more than 5 minutes to serve him. it was not helped by him and the assistant having a chinwag as she served him.
  11. Katie Boyle presenting the Eurovision Song Contest,(did she also do Come Dancing, or was that just my adolescent wish?), the top cougar/MILF of her day.
  12. Whilst every opportunity should be taken to think about Susan Stranks and Jenny Handley I wouldn't class them as being early television icons. Probably a generational thing but my thoughts tend to stray back to the pre-colour TV era, although I have to admit that I am struggling to recall Pat Keysall, Douglas Rae and Mick Robertson. I do of course remember that craggy, roving reporter Fyfe Robertson.
  13. ^^^^^^ This. Last nights result for Morton shows what can be done if you adopt a positive attitude from the start and maintain it throughout the game rather than for brief spells during the game. The problem is I don't think we have players fit enough or fast enough to keep trying to put constant pressure on the opposition, breaking fast from defence to mount a quick attack or getting back quickly to cover if a move breaks down. I think if we do somehow manage to secure a top four finish it will be a better achievement than last year because we had better players then and the other potential threats (Falkirk, Raith Rovers) did not do as well as expected, although Falkirk did come on stronger later on. This season we have had to bed in several new players, Falkirk have established themselves early on as main contenders against the "big two", Raith Rovers started well under a new manager, although they too are prone to inconsistency, and Morton, coming up, have probably been stronger than most outside Greenock would have predicted, and St. Mirren are showing sign of revival. Our downfall could be our failure to put teams under enough pressure and create more chances for both the strikers and from midfield. I'm not advocating a gung-ho policy of attack at any cost but there is a big difference between playing to win games rather than playing not to lose.
  14. That advert on tv for an Estate Agents where the saleswoman comes out of her office and walks to a house that's for sale and a big line of people join in and follow her to the house. The man in the house that's for sale looks out the window and waves at the saleswoman walking up the path then he goes to open the front door. When he opens the front door he looks in amazement at all the hundreds of people following the saleswoman wanting a look at the house. Surely he would notice all those people when he looked out and waved from the window so why does he wait 'til he opens the door before looking amazed? Petty but it bugs me.
  15. I was plittering about home yesterday doing some odd jobs and Barry (maybe Barrie) Bucknell came to my mind. How many people can remember him? I think he was the first DIY man on television. The idea of cordless electric tools would have been laughed at as sorcery back in his day, but he was the first man I ever saw using what was the latest high-tech invention, the Yankee screwdriver. He wasn't into building big fancy houses or home make-overs but if you wanted to see how to make or repair a chair or table or build a rabbit hutch or a little unit to set your ornaments on, then he was your must-see man. Do any auld duffers remember him or any other of the early tv "stars"?
  16. Always a risky strategy to plan things for when you are older, best to do something outrageous every day just in case.
  17. Whilst agreeing with a lot of JTulip's ideas listed above, I think the first priority to entice people to come to watch Queens is to make the product on the park more enjoyable, I would hazard a guess that that is the main reason for numbers dropping. Over-zealous policing/stewarding, poor catering facilities, poor toilet facilities, the "young team" being picked on, the opposing view of the "young teams" behaviour, all have been cited as reasons for the decline in support, and all are probable contributory reasons but what use are the best of facilities if your not enjoying the actual football on show. Like a lot of other supporters I try to get to every game home or away but must admit that there is an increasing lack of enthusiasm to try and get to some away games now because I think the philosophy of the management is to try and not lose games rather than go out to try to win them.
