The Queen of the South thread
Priti priti priti Patel replied to qos_75's topic in Scottish League 1 General Chatter
I suspect the way the board see it is we're three games unbeaten, three points off sixth, in a cup semi-final, and a chance at a lucrative away day v Hibs. Not saying I agree with that linen of thinking. -
Plenty time to lose this 2-1

Have to love the willingness of Nditi to take one for the team there. Just a pity the Cove player was in his own half and didn't have the ball. -

Does anyone else have a button on their screen saying "Start Clipping"? Or know how to get rid of it? -
Give it 6 months she'll be posting about how her manager micromanages everything.

The lack of update from Velo Army makes the tag on this thread look quite sinister. -
It looks like the article has been updated in the last few minutes and they have all been found guilty on all* counts. I haven't listened to the trial but from the article it sounds like that's the right decision. *actually one count for the second defendant and three counts for the third defendant were not guilty.

It's mad how in that video the police asks the homeowner if he knows him, the homeowner says "absolutely not", and the police officer just walks away. Can you imagine if the homeowner was black ffs? -
Yes, each state has different self-defence laws. The video @Thistle_do_nicely posted above gives a good summation of the issues. One such issue relates to whether you tried to retreat before defending yourself. In many states, there is a requirement to exhaust all avenues of retreat. In Wisconsin, that requirement only exists if you are shown to have "started the fight". No juror has yet spoken about their rationale, but I think most observers would say the evidence doesn't show - at least in legal terms - that Rittenhouse "started the fight". Interestingly, given that self-defence was going to be an issue even if the state succeeded on the possession charge, I believe that you can still claim self-defence even if the weapon is illegal. So, in theory, America could have a blanket ban on guns, but you would still be allowed to use a gun to defend yourself from a threat to your life.
-
What I said was: - I thought the American gun culture was bizzare, scary, insane; - I thought Rittenhouse was a p***k, self-important, liked to posture, naive, couldn't handle himself, and cowardly; - I didn't think he deserved life without parole for the above features; - I thought he was capable of change since he was young; - I hoped that these events would teach him a lesson and he would go on to have a quiet life, out of the limelight, avoiding gun rights and other right-wing issues. And in respect of the last bullet point... For f**k's sake, he is apparently still a p***k. (And fwiw, since you claimed the opposite, I said all of the above immediately after the verdict and before the Tucker Carlson interview was even announced)

Nah, I just changed my username a couple months back. I was never a big poster though, easy to miss. Also a solicitor, I am just dual-qualified, as I work on a lot of international cases. Not wife, girlfriend. Exactly. A lot of the mistruths seem to have been perpetuated by the District Attorney's office, presumably because they realised they had nothing to get him with and hoped to influence the jury.
-
I am not Swampy. I don't know who that is except seeing the username mentioned from time to time. Based on the description you have offered, if I was Swampy then I would deserve credit for cultivating an account for eight years with almost no political posts at all. Does Swampy generally watch Queen of the South games?

True, but the information you stated was sufficiently inaccurate that it is liable to give rise to inaccurate inferences. Rather than drive 20 miles carrying a weapon to attend the protest, he was already in the town, had left the house to clean graffiti, and was then offered payment if he went home to get his rifle and stood guard for a local car shop (which is fucking nuts, but 'Murrica). Of course, he had no business leaving that shop to put out fires, which is what preceded the attacks on him, and as I have already said I think he was probably feeling self-important, wanted to posture, was naive, and couldn't handle himself. But - as at this point in history - he had done nothing to suggest he had any right-wing tendencies. (The photo discussed above came later.) All of the above information is stipulated to by the prosecution, save for the aspect of payment which was disputed by one witness.
