  1. The problem is Carey is the only creative player we have so Levein quite rightly wants him on the ball. However we need him on the ball 10 yards outside the opposition box not 10 yards outside our own box. I feel Levein has fallen into the same trap as our last 2 managers fell into. He’s making the players fit the system rather than the system fitting the players. Wants to play with 3 at the back but doesn’t have anyone who can play wing back is a prime example of this
  2. It kinda worries me but I find myself agreeing with you certainly the first 3 paragraphs. Pretty much everyone in football knew who we were getting when we appointed Levein and I’ve seen nothing in the performances, shape, tactics so far to suggest he has changed from the boring, defensive minded manager he was at Utd, Hearts and Scotland. As they say a leopard doesn’t change its spots. Managers tend to be judged on their signings and McLean was so poor at this he got the hook very early. This left Levein with the pile of shite we have now. Other than Mitov, whose kicking is atrocious, and Robinson, left centre back only, McLean’s signings were nowhere near the standard required. Kimpioka didn’t do well yesterday and seemed less than happy with the physical aspect of the game which is not a good sign. More worrying for me was we were absolutely run over in midfield but he didn’t want to play Kjeltens in there. Could even have put Gowser in there and Kjeltens at right back but he preferred to leave him on the bench. If Levein doesn’t think Kjeltens is a better option than those on the pitch yesterday then that is a real problem.
  3. Has he improved us though? We’re more solid than we were under McLean but that’s hardly anything to shout about. We have no width, a load of forwards that can’t impact the game and other than Carey the only player capable of beating anyone is a 16 year old. It’s not exactly inspiring is it. No one expects us to be Real Madrid or Messi’s Barcelona but it would be appreciated if we could attempt to attack with a bit of pace. Most fans will accept players who are technically deficient if they make up for it with hard work but I look at this squad and all I see is a fair few who aren’t willing to roll their sleeves up despite their lack of technical ability.
  4. I’d like someone to tell me what difference there is between what we watched today and Davidson’s team from a year ago because I can’t see it. If anything we’re actually worse. Would really like us to employ a manager who sets his team up to win the game
  5. I absolutely agree. Brendan Rodgers made that mistake when he replaced Craig Gordon with Scott Bain all because Bain was more comfortable with the ball at his feet. I wouldn’t want to resort to the Livvy tactic of smashing everything long though. One last point, if last night was anything to go by we dodged a bullet with Martindale. His tactics or lack of them and style of play are absolutely brutal
  6. I’m quite happy for us to continue trying to pass the ball out from the back but to do this we need a keeper who is confident and competent with the ball at his feet.
  7. Weather in Perth absolutely awful at the moment. Blowing a hoolie and pishing doon. I know that Livvy have an “all weather surface “ but if this weather continues any chance this could be off? Not looking forward to driving through in those conditions. Never have understood why we cancel games because of underfoot conditions but ignore overhead conditions. Doesn’t exactly make for open, exciting football (yes, I know it’s Livvy v Saints so that’s unlikely anyway)
  8. Don’t think anyone can argue it wasn’t a red card especially in today’s game. However DJ was making a genuine attempt for the ball, depending which angle you watch actually wins the ball while Lundstram attempts a two footed block tackle. Contrast this with Dowell throwing a shoulder into Sprangler’s face after the ball has gone. No attempt to play the ball, just an assault on a player not in a position to defend himself. Unsurprisingly there was no card issued. As random guy said earlier, it’s not the decisions Rangers get, it’s the ones their opponents don’t get that makes a difference. Imagine they had to play 85 minutes with 10 men last night and tell me that wouldn’t have made a difference
  9. McLean got us Mitov, Smith and Robinson but he didn’t half saddle us with a load of crap too. DJ, Costello, Jephcott, Olofumwa, McLelland wouldn’t make a player if you added them all together
  10. You’re not alone. I said a couple of weeks back that I thought he was lazy. Seen nothing since then to change my mind. So far the only real positive I can take out of tonight is it will hopefully be the last time we have to suffer him
  11. Honestly think the only difference between this team and Davidson’s team is we try to pass the ball more. Same defensive mindset and so far not inspiring. Need reinforcements in the window. Two wing backs and at least one forward. DJ could possibly be the laziest player we’ve had in a long time. Random gave him the benefit of the doubt by saying he thought he was knackered 20 minutes in. I just think he can’t be arsed. Can’t understand dropping deeper and deeper, especially when we have Brown incapable of closing any player down. Definitely 2 points dropped
  12. I’m not overly excited if this is accurate. Been at Brechin a couple of seasons and still in the Highland League. This is the Saints equivalent of Celtic appointing Kenny Dalglish and John Barnes and we remember how that worked out. Hopefully this is just a stopgap until the club is sold. Obviously I’ll support them but am not optimistic
  13. The big problem we have is no matter who we appoint they still have to work with the absolute dross that Macca signed. If I look at our best 11, I struggle to put any more than 2 of his signings in it. Just need someone who can get us through to January without us getting to detached at the bottom, and then clear out the deadwood and go from there. Martindale might be a shout but the only available option I would want is Neil Lennon. I believe he’s a pal of our chief executive so that might be in our favour. Don’t think we are high enough in profile for him though. Ive kinda consigned myself that we’re getting relegated so whoever gets the job should be thinking of how he gets us out of the championship at the first time of asking
  14. This is absolutely spot on. I never understood how a guy who was assistant to a manager who was sacked for the team under performing was even considered for the job. The performances and even the results when he was caretaker were nowhere near good enough for him to get the job. However we are where we are and the only way forward is for the whole of the management and back room staff to be sacked . Not sure who is out there that I’d want to take over but until you act, you won’t find out. Who had thought of Lomas before he was appointed?
  15. McLean should never have been given the job in the first place. It’s not enough to sack him though. All his back room team , especially Gus MacPherson, have to go too. Put Alastair Stevenson and Gerry Creaney in charge until a new guy is appointed but it really has to be someone from outside the club
  16. Last season our pitch was like a ploughed field but only after we played Hearts on a night after it had pissed down all day. Quite honestly I would postpone it now, no matter what state the pitch is at the moment. Play it midweek and hopefully weather will have calmed down a bit by then. Have absolutely no doubt this won’t happen as it would require a modicum of foresight and common sense, qualities that are sadly missing where the SPFL are concerned
  17. This is the issue for me. We offer absolutely nothing going forward. At least with Kane up there he can buy fouls and then use set plays. Without him we have hee-haw. Costello runs about to little effect and still has more impact than Jephcott. Our midfield can compete and win balls but none of them are capable of a defence splitting pass. We rely on Wright and Carey but one is really a runner and the other is like a bag of revels. You don’t know what you’re going to get from one moment to the next. Maybe Turner-Cooke is the answer but we need to give him a run of games to find out. The one thing I think everyone will agree on is that MacPherson should be hunted. If McLean honestly thinks he is a better option than McGowan then he should be out the door with him
  18. We are reasonably tidy in the middle of the park but absolutely punchless up top. Would have Kane on for Jephcott at half time
  19. I’ve seen absolutely nothing from McLean that suggests he is remotely capable of doing the job. I absolutely understood why fans wanted rid of CD and agreed it was the right thing to do when he was sacked but at least he had some sort of system even if it was boring, defensive and horrible to watch. McLean has signed a decent amount of players, most of whom are shite , but still doesn’t seem to know a system that fits the players or what his best 11 is. We have gone from a team that could stifle opponents and be relatively solid defensively to a team that is easy to play against and gives away easy goals. This is down to poor coaching and a lack of preparation. I personally would sack him now and hope that somebody competent can at least come in and make us solid and difficult to play against . Failing that I’d give him the same warning CD allegedly got before the Livvy game. As for our strongest team, I’d go 3-5-2. Mitov Olofumwa. Gordon. Considine Wright Sprangler, McGowan, Tuner-Cooke, Gallacher Kane. May or Clark Cant imagine it could be any worse than the shite we’ve seen so far this season
  20. Quite honestly think McLean is so far out of his depth it’s not funny. How anyone can look at MacPherson and think there’s a player there is beyond me. Stevie May up top on his lonesome just confirms the piss-take.
  21. Difficult to disagree with this. A lot seems to hinge on the Austrian being the ball winning we need in midfield but so far McLean’s signings have been, apart from Mitov, pretty uninspiring. McLelland is an absolute bombscare because he’s so slow and his positional sense and use of the ball are not so great to compensate for his lack of pace. Robinson was a bit better today but is he really an upgrade on Gallagher? Looking up top when Clark is fully fit I expect Jephcott to be 4th choice. Smith is tidy but doesn’t really impose himself on the game although he doesn’t hide and his use of the ball is probably the best we have. Understand the problem fans have with Carey but not sure who we have to play in that area although with Clark coming back we can go 2 up top. It was noticeable today when Kane went off we really struggled to keep the ball in attacking areas. Finally, McPherson. Please can someone explain to me what he is for as in my opinion he’s absolutely hopeless.
  22. Absolutely right. Jason Kerr got a massive reality check from Gary Naismith at East Fife for doing something similar. It was pointed out to him that you might get away with that sort of stuff in youth academy football but as soon as you step up to the first team you don’t get the time or space to do so. Let’s hope Robinson learns his lesson but have to be honest, I don’t think he’s an improvement on Gallagher. Same with Mclelland, don’t think he’s an improvement on Liam Gordon.
  23. Did ok v Kilmarnock but has been pretty disappointing other than that. Unfortunately your second point is probably the real reason if he’s kept on.
  24. Think you’re right but not sure if that’s through necessity or choice.
