By the way you slandered our relatively successful Falkirk Women’s team I should have known you were an idiot. 1) If we were gonna go in for him ofc we are bidding money Clyde don’t hand him to us for free u swampy 2) fat enough to be one of the best strikers outside the prem 3) doubt falkirk are interested in a settled case that happened years ago, they want out the lower leagues asap so idiots  like you stop complaining

Slandered our women’s team? English comprehension must not be your strong point.

Given James Corden is about 40 stone and feeling 'completely fine', how much more evidence do we need that this bug is now absolutely shan?

Usually agree with you, but Corden has worked hard to shed a lot of that weight. He's now only 38 stone.

Hearing the statement is more hinting at going a hybrid of FT and PT if we are still in league 1, not the signing on DGW…

If that’s the case I’m not sure many fans would be upset. If PT saves a wedge of cash and we can also pick up a couple of the better PT players from this league and below it would be a no brainer.

    Really hope you’re right.

How many fans do you believe will turn their back on the club?

I genuinely would hope upwards of 500 regulars (most wouldn't have the spine, see it as a day out, people who believe he's not done much wrong etc. ..) That might be a pipe dream. But I would actively route for admin/liquidation if we signed him. The club would deserve it.

I'd expect if they were of a mind to sign him they would check with the major sponsors first to see if they had a view on it.  There might be one or two that pull out perhaps but the club isn't going to go down the shitter just because it signs goodwillie.

So where's the upside? This sounds like Brexit FFS!

I'll eat my hat if we sign him and maybe 1 or 2 others this window and we go up. The rest of the team is still rank and the strikers get zero service.

So, we'd lose 1 or 2 major sponsors at best, a load of loyal fans will simply stop supporting the club, we almost definitely still won't go up, and we'll have a rapist playing for us, a "community" club? Sounds good.

Again, ignoring the morality issue, it would just be an awful, expensive signing

Well that opens up another hypothetic question.

Where do you draw the line regarding players with convictions? Leigh Griffiths recently had strong allegations pointed at him and has run ins with police in the past.

Alan Lithgow is/was on the sex offenders register yet quietly goes about his footballing career. Is his previous demeanors acceptable?

Livingstons manager has done jail time for drugs offences yet is roundly accepted in Scottish football.

BTW, I don't agree with signing Goodwillie. I just think plenty folk are jumping the gun way to quickly to preach their morals over somehting they may never even happen.

I'll happily "preach my morals" all day regarding the raping of a woman.

I actually thought that was an excellent statement, seems genuinely heart felt but with a systematic plan in place. Then I come and read this crazy hysteria from certain posters on here over a couple of lines that I 100% agree with, of course the board will be required to make unpopular decisions at times! If they become narcissistic and treat it like a personal popularity contest they won’t be doing they’re jobs correctly. That doesn’t mean we are going to sign DGW!…..how people can read between the lines to that extent seems absolutely mental. It just becomes a bangeagon, one poster lights the touch paper and all the sheep follow.

What will you think if we sign DGW?

  8. 2 minutes ago, Shadwell Dog said:

You what? If it turns out we don't sign goodwillie then I don't see a thing wrong with the statement .  Signing him may be immoral and may turn out to be incompetent but the statement certainly isn't for god's sake.

Yes it is. The rumours have far more to them this time.

If he signs, they are immoral, and I am completely finished with the club for years.

If he doesn't sign, that statement is like Holt has snuck in and thrown a line out to cause panic. I've known well a victim of sexual assault. This episode makes me feel physically sick. Meanwhile, the board remain silent (apart from this line).

Someone with a profile picture of him with his (presumably) daugher comparing Goodwillie to Ched Evans, an innocent man locked up.

We have the club we deserve.

That we do. If he's signed it'll be a board and fan failing. Board for being that stupid, fans for not kicking up enough of a fuss. At least I wouldn't be part of it anymore.

It's an unpopular view but I see a lot of similarities with Ruth who I think did better than most give him credit for because he was Sheerins man.  The system didn't suit him but there was rarely a game where he didn't have chances and he scored a few too.  With proper coaching, Millers advice and a partner up front he could yet come good.  I wouldn't at all be surprised if he 'did a Dowds' and did better with his next team if he's not kept on with us.

For me, Keena and Ruth both have limitations but would keep both and supplement with another 2 strikers (Dowds and 1 other). Wilson and Ompreon can go..

Ruth for me showed more than what Dowds did last season. His goal v East Fife is a great striker's finish and goal v Dumbarton was good too. Wouldn't say he should be our starting man but would rather have him off the bench than Mcdaid, Ompreon, Ross, Mcguffie etc

  11. The case rates being just anything approaching "a little bit lower" or even mildly lower in Scotland than a restrictionless England is not a win for restrictions. They would need to be far more impressive at limiting transmission for that to be the case. And that's before you get in to whether cases are transforming into hospitlisations and ICU admissions. I genuinely think Sturgeon, Leitch, Swinney et al think keeping these awful, horrible, crippling restrictions are worth it if it meant England had 1 in 50 people with Covid but Scotland had 1 in 51.

People getting their knickers in a twist over tabloid rumours FFS.  How many times on here do folk say I read in the sun or record that this is happening and they get shot down in flames as it's utter pish 99 times out of a hundred.and yet here we are with folk frothing at the mouth again having just finished going Apr at a bod for not sacking Holt when it just took longer than they wanted it to.

99 times out of a hundred it isn’t about a rapist. The one time it is, it is absolutely right fans make perfectly clear their view.

So we've now moved from kicking the bod over rumours that Holt wasn't going anywhere to kicking the bod over rumours that we are signing goodwillie. Honestly I'd be surprised if the fss can get anyone willing to go on the bloody bod if this is how things are going to pan out over the next few years.

You've got to wonder if the fss is a goer anyway if every time the bod do something the fans disagree with a pile of fans decide they want their cash back. Doesn't give you much chance of long term stability.

    Pish.

Fans voices have a right to be heard. There would be no point in waiting for them to hear our voices once we’d already signed the rapist - it would be too late. Kicking up a fuss til this is put to bed is the only way to do it.

At last something we can agree on 😁

The excerpt above is from Holt's hiring announcement so based on him only being one year in to the 5-year plan that's why he hasn't been dispensed with.

He's restarted the youth and talent pipeline and must have a hand in recruitment.

I can imagine Holt will manage the roster and based on the managers needs will buy, sell, loan or promote players based on criteria.

As described at the infamous Q&A he is tasked with cultivating "assets" either via the talent pipeline or identifying guys like Wilson - who it's obviously hoped - can become valuable over time. Hence why they've gone on loan as Sheerin preferred Ruth.

Rennie's (or any manager in situ) role is to work with Holt to identify positions and types of player to bring in and Holt does the dirty work.

Some plausible examples of what might be at play:

You're not in the managers plans and need game time - Holt facilitates your exit, temporarily.

You're saleable and you've got a youngster to take their place - Holt facilitates your permanent sale and said youth is given a chance.

You're short in a position - Holt works on a shortlist to bolster or backfill.

You want an experienced head at the back - Holt works on a shortlist but in some cases X has to go before you can sign Y.

There will be an element of horse trading going on so the manger might not get everything he wants but the manager ultimately decides on who comes in. Holt does the leg work and keeps the roster within whatever strategy the club are pursuing.

The above is all conjecture based on what I know of similar roles discussed in the media and gleaned from statements made by Sheerin/Rennie and Holt himself.

The success of other areas are obviously less visible.

Seems to me like a good summary of what Holt does.

I can definitely see the plus points of this type of role at the club. Too bad Holt is just crap at it. Let’s get Rice in
