  1. Next three game are critical for us. We blew a fantastic opportunity against Morton but it’s what we do against cove, Inverness and Arbroath at home this month that was always going to determine our title credentials.

Quite relieved to see Morton lose last night, a win for them would of been huge in terms of building momentum for the title. If we end up in the playoffs, Morton are the team I’d want to play the least tbh. It’s how thistle fans probably view us taking 9/9 off them this season.

We’ll see how thistle get on over the next 3 games before I start getting really worried about them. Morton away, Dundee home and Inverness away this month are incredibly tough fixtures so from a qp perspective, you’d hope there’s points dropped in those encounters.

Dundee still the main ones to worry about currently

  2. Tomorrow’s results could be a real turning point for a few teams. If we beat Morton, I’m confident they’ll have too much to do to make a proper fist of the title. Obviously if they win, they are right in the mix. We haven’t been on any sort of scintillating form of late but I think context is important. Anyone can lose away to Morton and Dundee and it’s what we’ve done against the teams in the bottom half that has allowed us to be top of the league. On paper we have by a considerable distance, the most generous set of fixtures throughout March outwith the Morton encounter. 4 points clear with 4 home games in a row. If you’re a neutral, you’d put your money on us to win this league. But it’s championship and there’s no doubt in my mind it won’t be anywhere near as smooth as I’m hoping for

I don’t think any team will need to go on a crazy run to win the league. I think around 63-64 points might be enough as everyone will drop points between now and the end of the season

I really do think if we beat Morton tomorrow, we’ll go on and win the league. Unfortunately we’ve looked hopeless against them so far

  3. I’m gonna say at this point Morton(if they beat us on Sat) and Dundee are going to be the main title challengers I feel. Thistle have improved and obviously you’ve got Ayr but I just can’t see either building enough steam to win the title.

    Qp next four          Morton        Dundee

    Morton (H)           QP (A)         Cove (A)

    Cove (H)               Ayr (H)        Thistle (A)

    Inverness (H)      Thistle (H)    Ayr (H)

    Arbroath (H)      Arbroath (A) Hamilton(H)

What’s noticeable about these upcoming fixtures are that Morton and Dundee have more than 1 game against teams in the play off hunt whereas we’ve only got one and of course every one of our games are at home. Its critical we get a result or at least not lose against Morton as I do worry about how strong Morton are at home

Its entirely in our hands now, scary but so exciting

Yes was just basing it on the current top 2 in the league, keep thinking QP are going to fall away but they seem to be doing the opposite!

Don’t even think it’s a case of us being particularly great of late, Dundee just seem to have a horrible but pleasing knack of dropping points against sides you’d expect them to beat. Lost to Arbroath at home, drew with raith, drew against a stinking Inverness side and drew against Hamilton. Hopefully the trend continues against thistle on Tuesday

Think Dundee blew their chance to stroll their way to the title. They might still win it but I can’t see a scenario where they go on any crazy winning run

Getting to the business end of the season with only ten games to go. The next four are at Ochilview so I'm hoping for a good haul of points next month. However, the trouble with this league is that anyone can come up with a performance now and then with some unexpected results always being possible.

Morton next week will be a test for us as we've been put to the sword by them twice already this season. Their great comeback from one nil down in the last ten minutes against Cove today shows that they will be challenging right until the final whistle. That'll be tough for us if we don't have a decent cushion. The three games after that are against Cove, north Thistle, and Arbroath - each bring their own challenges. Possible 12 points to be gained in March and I'd hope to get all of them but, realistically, I'll settle for seven or eight as this would probably give us the cushion for a playoff spot.

April will be difficult with away matches to Raith, Partick, Ayr, and Morton with a home game against Hamilton in the middle. Seven points would be a minimum here leaving the final game at home to Fundee an interesting prospect. They were overwhelming favourites to win the league this year but, despite having a great team,  have flattered to deceive this season (apart from against us). Getting a win over them would be great on the last day but I would prefer it was done and dusted before then.

At the start of the season I wanted to make a good account of ourselves in the Championship but now I believe that winning the league is now more than a possibility. Heady days indeed.

We’re in a fantastic position currently. If you said to me that you would be top of the league with 10 games remaining and you have 4 consecutive home games coming up, 3 of which are against arguably the most out of form sides in the league, I’d of bit your hand off for that scenario. It’s in our hands now

There’s still going to be twists and turns. We’re going to experience results that aren’t ideal but equally if we can take advantage of the next 4 homes games, we might have that breathing space to allow a couple poor results.

Cannot underestimate how massive it would be if we could go and get a win next week against our bogey side Morton. We’ve lost 7 games this season, 6 of which are against the sides in the top 4 currently. If we can pick up just a few extra points from these teams, we’ve proven we’re able to take care of the teams at the bottom half.

    Great summary

Feel Stephen Eze worth a mention as well.  Distribution much better and generally solid. Need to see some consistency from him now.

Absolutely. Most pleasing aspect about Eze was his distribution on the ball. He seemed to be in control of what he was doing for almost all of the game. Something we’ve generally not seen from him.

Like you say, need that consistency now as he’ll be tested against two big and capable strikers for Morton next week

Shields has scored 4 in his last 3 now. We should try the £5m loan thing with Queen's Park.

He’s genuinely been tremendous for us so far. Championship level is obviously a lower level to what you guys are in but he looks like a premiership level striker playing in the championship. He’s playing right through the middle for us whereas he played out wide a lot for you guys?

Frustrating he’s got another year left on his deal as I’d love to have him permanently based on what I’ve seen of him so far

  8. Simply a superb result and a fantastic performance to go with it (2nd half especially). We looked back to our usual selves when it came to knocking the ball about and some of the football throughout the 2nd half was unbelievable. Hamilton couldn’t cope with our press and fortunately we took full advantage of it.

Everyone on the pitch played their apart. Oakley was a machine at right back.  Scoring the opener seemed to restore the confidence right back into Jack Thomson who completely suffocated the Hamilton defence with his running and constant pressing. Also buzzing for Aaron Healy. First start in senior football and gets himself a goal. He looked a wee bit tentative in moments throughout the 1st half but I’d imagine that’s down to confidence. Very tidy player who will only get better

Man of the match a toss up between Dom Thomas and shields. Thomas had been quiet for a few weeks but he was breathtaking on many occasions today. He absolutely ragdolled the left back and his build up play for the 3rd goal was outrageous. On his game, there is no better winger in the league

Is it too early for me to suggest that Shields is a better all round player than Murray ? The guy has been magnificent for us. He holds the ball up brilliantly, he’s rapid and his link up play is terrific. Most importantly he knows where the goal is, 4 goals in 4 games now. I know he was played out wide for Motherwell but my goodness I can’t believe they didn’t give him a proper shot up top.

Dundee dropping points today was huge and there’s now genuine pressure on them to get a result against thistle which won’t be easy. Even if they win, it’s still in our hands. Need to be incredibly wary of Morton now also

  9. Another painful viewing tonight. Was nice to see sugar take the decision away from the pm on who to bring back to the boardroom. 100% that pm would of took the 2 who were in charge on the entertainment side of things (and they did really well with that in fairness)

Cant say I’m favouring anyone this series. I’d be curious more than anything to see Avi at the interview stage but he must be a nightmare to work with.

Simba my predicted winner so far

Still reckon Partick Thistle will give us a bigger fight than QP or Ayr.

You think? I don’t expect us to win the league tbh and I reckon you guys will end up doing it but outwith a decent result yesterday, Thistle have been rank rotten of late. McCall leaving might give them a boost but they’ve imploded far too many times this season to suggest they’ll be gunning for the title IMO. Suspect your game in hand with thistle will determine their title credentials. Got a funny feeling Ayr could be in real trouble maintaining their top 4 place over the coming weeks

I could end up being entirely wrong though

  11. Next 5 games are pretty seasoning defining stuff in terms of going for the title. On paper, that’s a really nice set of fixtures coming up but it’s imperative we take advantage of these “home” games. If we’re serious about the title, we’ve got to be hitting about 12 points here. Connor shields seems to be an excellent addition up top but we need to get the likes of Thomas, Thomson and McPake firing again.

    Hamilton (A)

    Morton (H)

    Cove (H)

    Inverness (H)

    Arbroath (H)

99 times out of a hundred the challenge on him for the first goal would be a foul. The second one? A right 'mare.

We defended very poorly and we paid for it.

It just wasn’t a foul I’m afraid. Even at the time, I never thought it was a foul. Ferrie had a very rare horror show unfortunately
