  1. According to the match preview, no injury concerns which is great news as i thought it would of been a certainty that Grant would be out
  2. Would say that’s a fairly harsh assessment of Gillespie’s performances so far. Yes, admittedly I thought he was very poor today but on the whole i think he’s been a consistent performer particularly the last couple weeks. Although i think long term, Lyon and Carroll will end up being the starting pair in midfield
  3. Delighted to see Jamieson doing well, was a cut above league 2 with us. Not surprised he’s doing it in the championship
  4. Somehow after today, the league table looks even better for us so I can’t complain too much but overall the performance, particularly in the 1st was poor stuff. Edinburgh pressed, looked solid and attacked effectively throughout and made life hard for any of the players to get any sort of rhythm going. However, the way we’ve gifted those goals was shocking. Albeit Edinburgh’s 1st goal was a tremendous finish, I have absolutely no clue what Grant is trying with that pass, really basic error. I guess the advantages of having a full time squad is that if any player is underperforming, they’ll be replaced by very capable players and that’s exactly what happened. Galt was having a stinker of a game and was rightly subbed, whilst quitongo was anonymous for large parts. Longridge was outstanding 2nd half, he showed a level of composure and quality that was distinctly missing the entirety of the 1st half. The 2nd Edinburgh goal was the one that really frustrated me however. No need whatsoever for Gillespie to dribble by players in a dangerous area, especially with the circumstances of how the game was going. Wouldn’t surprise me to see Lyon back in the starting 11 next week in place of him. Thought we would of held out for the win but some awful marking from a hopeful punt killed the chances of that. Why we allowed a player like Blair Henderson to have a free header to lay it off to someone in the box I’ll never know Man of the match me was Longridge or Carroll. Could see Carroll was getting frustrated with the lack of movement up top and maybe having a player like slater in front of him may have been beneficial.
  5. I think Murray is here for the journey with us. I doubt he has signed a 3 year deal with us for no specific reason if he had immediate intentions to return to top flight football. Plus with the club being in a very strong position financially id imagine it would take a substantial amount of money to prize him away, which I doubt clubs would be willing to pay for a guy who’s been out for such a long period of time. Teams will also be increasingly vigilant of their own expenditure with the financial implications of covid.
  6. Buzzing for this game tbh, two strong in form teams up against each other. Edinburgh will always pose a threat with Henderson up top whilst also possessing a number of very good players throughout their squad for this level. Think the only change I’d make is Slater coming in for McLean purely because I’d like to keep Quitongo out wide. Didn’t think Quitongo was as effective at the striker position last week albeit it wasn’t a game where he could use pace to his advantage but his previous two hampden performances have been nothing short of outstanding so hopefully he’s back in the wider areas. This would allow slater to play the attacking midfielder role with Gillespie and Lyon sitting. If we play to our best ability, we’ll win the game simple as that. We’ll only lose games this season if our own performance levels drops. We won’t be outshone by other teams
  7. For as hated as he is by Falkirk fans, they sure love to continually talk about him and send reminders of his “atrocious” managerial career
  8. I found it equally bizarre the comments about stenny being more structured and us being a team of individuals. As much as Stenny gave a good account of themselves last week, they had 1 shot on target all game plus I thought our shape and structure with and without the ball was fantastic and it was evident again today. The only underwhelming performance in the league so far has been Stirling and even then we kept a clean sheet. I guess with the squad we’ve got, every detail on the pitch will be critiqued that wee bit more than others but that’s expected
  9. Delighted with that, thought we played really well throughout the 90 minutes and limited Cowdenbeath to very few chances. They seemed to only have the one tactic of launching the ball into the box at any given opportunity but the defence dealt with it with minimal fuss which was pleasing as so many times over the years we’ve been bullied by teams such as Cowden. Thought everyone was great but my motm would go to Gillespie. Such a calming influence on the pitch and he’s not afraid to get stuck in aswell, terrific performance and not a chance he can be dropped for next week. Once again buzzin to see Murray score, he’s played a total of 45 minutes competitive football and already has 2 goals and an assist to his name. Sets us up nicely for what I think will be our toughest game of the season next week against a good Edinburgh team but again, on this form I back us to win every game.
  10. Here’s hoping the game is still on tomorrow. With Grant, Slater and Longridge back i can see Grant and slater coming in for Morrison and Baynham. Seems like Cowdenbeath have a got a lot injuries and going by their form in the league, it’s a game I’d like to think we can pick up the 3 points. Feeling confident for it, hopefully that confidence isn’t thrown back at my face at 4:45 tomorrow
  11. The competition in midfield will be fantastic once Carroll and Slater have returned. Forgot to mention it on my previous post but I thought Gillespie was outstanding in midfield once again and he is gonna be incredibly unlucky if he’s replaced next week by Carroll. Just unfortunate for him that carroll seems the real deal.
  12. Absolutely buzzing after that. Fully deserved the win, thought we played well across the whole game and other than the goal we looked solid once again at the back. Quitongo was unplayable first half, so much excitement when he’s driving at players at pace. What an introduction for Simon Murray, almost scored on his first touch, set up McHugh’s goal and rounded it off with a goal himself. The guy will score a barrowload of goals for us and was great to see how buzzing he was at the end of the game. With Murray’s introduction, I thought McHugh started to play exactly like the player all of us were expecting off him. Looked so much more comfortable on the ball and linked well with both Murray and McLean. Not to mention his finish was fantastic. Happy days
  13. Looking forward to this, especially off the back of last weeks performance. Obviously expecting Stenny to be a much tougher opposition than Brechin were, they’ve got some decent players up top in Spence who’s scored against qp a fair few times over his career. However, there’s no reason to suggest why we can’t win this Interested to see how we lineup, I’d imagine if Grant and Slater are fit and available they’ll come in for Morrison and replace one of the strikers which id imagine is more likely to be Baynham ? If Quitongo plays to anywhere like the level he did last week then we’ve got a great chance of winning, probably the best individual performance of the season so far from a qp player so hopefully he carries this in to tomorrow
  14. Was an absolute stroll from the first to the last minute. Was really good to see us play at a high intensity for 90 minutes instead of sitting back 2nd half. Thought Quitongo was absolutely outstanding, had the left back on toast all game and was involved heavily for every goal. Even more pleasing that we produced this performance without Grant, Slater and Murray. Delighted to see Mchugh finally get off the mark, thought he looked a lot more involved with play and got in some really good positions to score, hopefully he can kick on now. Cant praise the performances of Carroll enough, guy is everything you want in a holding midfielder, plus his range of passing is terrific. You can see why he’s got some sort of pedigree down south 4 points clear at the top now after 5 games, results went our way today across the league and yet to still concede a goal. Really exciting times I do worry for Brechin, lots of effort but the quality was non existent. Still can’t get my head around how they appointed a guy with no managerial experience, never mind on a 3 year deal.
  15. These are the fixtures we must go and win if we’re to win the league, hopefully we see a few goals but at the end of the day 3 points is all that matters. Interesting to see how we lineup, would be tempted to go for a midfield trio of Carroll, slater and McGlinchey followed by McLean, Baynham and Quitongo in attack. Really hoping to see Murray on the bench, would give everyone a boost throughout the squad I imagine
  16. Glad to see the end of the betfred for this season. When your starting to get into the league, particularly when your doing well it’s a bit underwhelming to play these games but at least it’s gave players some vital match practice. The way the game was going, it had 0-0 written all over but the 2nd time in a week we’ve conceded a corner, always a frustrating way to lose a goal. Motm for us was Carroll or Robson I’d say. Carroll in particular looks a player that could stand out like a sore thumb in league 2, hope he continues to start games.
  17. Weird one, don’t think it was a 3-1 game but over the piece we didn’t do enough to merit a positive result. Conceded some really cheap goals and it’s evident without Peter Grant and Robson, we’re nowhere near as strong defensively. I’ve been a massive fan of Gillespie since he joined the club but I actually thought he was one of the worst players, thought he got caught on the ball on a fair few occasions. Thought Quitongo had a really positive game and was surprised to see him subbed so early, maybe it was a fitness thing. For me, our best performer was Carroll and it was evident early on that he’s got a really strong presence alongside some impressive passing in between the lines, looking forward to see how he does throughout the season once he gains full fitness. At the end of the day, as long we’re beating league 2 teams that’s all I’m concerned about My biggest concern is seeing Slater being injured again. I was genuinely surprised to see him starting again yesterday considering he’s barely played since he’s joined the club and I’m fearing that for all the ability he’s got, injuries are gonna hamper him
  18. Agreed, ever since McKinnon was appointed, Muir’s performances have went up another level and you can easily tell that full time football is benefiting him. Crazy to think when Roberts was in charge a few fans (including myself) wanted him dropped last season. Can’t think of a keeper in league 2 or 1 that would replace an in form Willie Muir
  19. Cannot underestimate how good of a win that is. Most teams will struggle to take points away at Elgin throughout the season so take to get all 3 points is fantastic. Was really impressed with the 1st half performance and maybe should of got a 2nd goal particularly from the MacLean chance. 2nd half was a hard watch but we’ve arguably got a championship quality defence and it’s showed so far throughout the season. Positive performances all round but thought MacLean especially in the 1st half was brilliant and full credit for the defence and Muir to keep the back door shut.
  20. Get 3 points tomorrow and I think it’ll give the team the perfect platform to go on and maintain 1st place. Obviously we’re expected to win every game but we’ve arguably had the toughest opening set of fixtures with 3 away games out of 4 against teams expected to be at the top end of the table. Absolutely one of the toughest fixtures of the season, always been impressed with Elgin and the way they play. Would be tempted to go with Quitongo up top with McHugh dropped to the bench. McHugh just hasn’t done enough yet to prove he’s worthy of starting every game
  21. Celtic defensive frailties get exposed so often in Europe. Howling defending
  22. Seems like a really promising signing, Ireland youth international also. Quality right through the squad now which can only act as a positive. Looking at the whole squad now, it is seriously impressive for this level, no excuses to not get promoted
  23. I’m really confused with McHugh. The guy has a really decent reputation at championship level and got double figures in goals last season yet he’s not looked even close to scoring in any game in league 2. There must be a player somewhere just yet to see it
  24. Was a hard watch but absolutely buzzin to get 3 points. Thought the subs made a big difference, adding a lot more energy and directness to our play. Peter Grant is an absolute rock at the back, won every header and his positional sense was first class. Special mention to Willie Muir who continues to make very important saves at critical moments and it’s resulted in us having 3 clean sheets in the league already. Happy days
