The released/offered contracts lists are in and they are interesting viewings. Andy Rodgers told me on Sunday that they are only signing on players who have desire and want to do well, which is all any supporter wants. McCaughies release is the only one I feel a bit reluctance for, he appeared to have some potential whenever I watched him. Even though some of the players offered contracts lack in quality, it’s undoubted that they give their all which is why they are being kept on. For example, Fraser Neave was played on Saturday because Rodgers/Ure knew he’d give his all - despite not being played in his preferred position. It’s a disappointment that our three signings from last summer have departed but they weren’t what this club needed, not at this time anyway. I wish them the best of luck but now we’ve got to look to the future, hopefully there’ll be some ‘mouthwatering’ signings in the near future.

Danny Ashe got a lot of stick when he joined Kelty, like any player moving to a rival team would. Andy Rodgers and Derek Ure couldn’t speak highly enough of him and he gave his all in the games he played after announcing. He’ll be a good signing for Kelty and one that will be underrated because of the high profile others.

This signing is certainly a statement. I’d heard that this was the quality of player we were looking at but I didn’t expect us to actually sign them. After reading the Kelty thread it also shows that we can match the type of players that they are looking to bring in which should make for an exciting battle next year. I wonder how Spartans, BSC and EK will respond to this, do they have the funds to match Kelty and the Shire?

I don’t like the Lowland League because of how meaningless fixtures become as soon as you lose a couple of games. In league 2 we would always be in the play off hunt until April or so, this year our chance at the title was gone by the end of August. Fair enough we were in a slight bit of danger of being dragged into a fight to avoid 15th but that didn’t make the games anymore tense.

I posted a few week ago about how Ricki Lamie has somehow ended up in the SPL so it only seems fair to shout out David Bates, who’s in the Scotland squad. I thought he was a good player but nowhere near the level of quality of Luke Donnelly or Kevin Nisbet and I’ve no idea how they are only playing League 1 level. I wonder who was the last ex shire player to play for Scotland? Maybe Dead will know.
