Brian McGinty signed from Cumnock if I remember correctly. Not that great.

It's like any market a hit or miss. At least the percentage in our attacking stats were up against Motherwell.  So the problem of attacking is being worked on hopefully it pay's off. We need/ must beat St Johnstone as there is a lot of tough games coming up we dont want to be adrift going into December.

An honest answer would be that our failings don’t come as a surprise to the vast majority of realistic buddies. For years our club has been a graveyard for strikers, aside from Michael Higdon and Gavin Reilly in the championship winning side from two years ago.

Our successful academy at Ralston has failed to produce a striker since Barry Lavety way back in the 90’s.

What striker went through our system before Lavety ? Very few if any  we did pick up McGarvey, Maca from the juniors.  Yardley came from Livie juniors via Cowdenbeat. Dont believe for a minute there is no talent in the juniors just does not seem to be looked at they way it used too.

9 corners today and not one of them looked like leading to a goal. Our set pieces really are terrible.

No complaints about the outcome in the end and were lucky it was only 1 at halftime.  The 2nd was better and we actually tested the Well keeper.

I'm thankful of the international break next week. The last 3 games have sucked the life out of me.

Well done Motherwell did not doubt your great start. A shining light I would love from St Mirren.  We have a major problem Munaz you have pointed it out sadly we have known of it for too long. Goodwin was always a midfield defender and still thinks about the game the same way. Needs an attacking coach. Thommo has said he can turn Junior into a proper striker.  Not pulling straws here it's what we need. I'm sure Thommo would take a part time role up if approached.

  4. Dont think the Hearts goal keeper had one save to make last week . Motherwell fans dont sound overly confident which is strange given the great start you have had. We are only let down in the final third so it will be intresting to see what  if anything comes out of the training ground on the attacking front. Hard to beat is one thing but you have to score goals. Looking forward to my day out.

  5. Motherwell will be a hard nut to crack . Mullen has to start as the lone striker if so the ball has to stay on the ground with no high balls. If we are still in the game come the 60min would like to see Obika join him upfront.  Do Saints fans enter the ground from the main stand side or is it the opposite side of the stadium. Will their be a pay at the gate.  Where is best to park the car. Thanks for any info.

You said “I can’t believe how bad Junior is” and something about being a striker in name only.

Honestly, I’d go with Obika at the moment. There’s something there with him and think it’s just taking a bit of time...people have forgotten he’d been out for 10 months before signing for us.

I agree on Obika he has something.  Junior on his own does not work . With two striker role he could I hope.

I don't understand the sudden rush to see Mullen and Cooke in the starting line up. We started with that pairing at Albion Rovers and we never looked like scoring. Cooke started against Edinburgh City in a game where we needed a late penalty to win - the strike force that day was useless. And Mullen started against East Kilbride and was joined by Cooke in the 70th minute and neither of them looked capable of scoring then either.

Obika and Morais were heralded in as the quality signings needed to set the team up for a good season and a few matches later they are being written off for a couple of duds who couldn't score against non league opposition.

Give Obika and Morais the right kind of supply and the goals will come - playing as we are at the moment Ronaldo and Messi would struggle to score goals.

There was a few times against Hearts lose balls in their penalty box were not pounced on as none of our players were hovering just outside the box. I spoke about it to the guy who sits next to me. Stephen Thompson also brought it up in Sportscene.  We need more bodies forward from midfield.

The point I was making is that it’s still very early in his career with us to making judgements. We didn’t play to his strengths and we don’t create enough, not all down to him.

Plenty of people jumping on his back at the game too. Be critical of the team, just avoid being critical of individuals who’ve only made two starts. Look how big Cody progressed last season, for example.

I'm sure I wrote coaching on attacking needs to be worked on. Funnily enough Waters on buddie vision agrees with me saying the same thing. Nearly every one including Stevie Thompson agree Mullen should start next week. Junior needs to work on his mojo. Have seen nothing yet to suggest he will be a hit.  But you have your opinion Junior should start next week I disagree.

I’ll judge the strikers when they get some service. High balls to Junior, poor crosses into the box that any decent central defender loves etc.

The team are not giving the strikers anything to work with, we are hard to beat and hold really good shape but until we start creating chances for the strikers we will remain St Mirren nil.............that is not something we can blame the strikers for.

Junior was one on one heading for goal all he did was run into the Hearts defender though he recovered to get the ball to the winger. Noticed today's paper gave our forwards a score of 5 Flynn also got a 5 the lowest of our team. So a neutral agrees Flynn was poor on Saturday. There has to be coaching this week on attacking.  Stats no shoots on target against Hearts.

Waters is a dependable left back but doesn’t offer enough going forward. Both he and McGinn have to better offensively if we are to create more chances in forward areas. The last two home games demonstrate the point as both have failed to deliver any decent ball into the box.

I'm wondering if they have been told to hold back. When balls were being put into the box there was not one midfield player hanging around just outside the penalty box. Quite a few times there was lose balls in the box but no one there to capitalise.

Spot on. In January we might see a couple of players going out and coming in but it'll be nothing like having to move on a dozen players to make way for half a new team.

I still reckon there's a good chance we can start getting goals. There are no stand out goal scorers but Mullen is capable of bagging a few, Magennis, McAllister are bound to chip in with some. Possibly Cooke too when he's fit again. I'm still hopeful that Morais and Obika can find their shooting boots.

Mullen, Cook , Obika should be our first choice.  Morais cant play the lone striker I wish Jim would be a wee bit ambitious playing two up front.

Boo boy already. The boy only has two starts to his name, and people giving him pelters.

He didn’t have the best game, but I don’t think we played to his strengths. We constantly tried to give him the ball with his back to goal and I don’t think that’s his game.

Never booed the team in my entire life. We have some decent players but we also have a few not so good. The balance is not yet right. 7 games in how many goals have our strikers scored.  Defence is good. Midfielders mostly good. Strikers is a problem dont score goals your going to be in trouble.  We always have been a yoyo club that unfortunately will not change. Yet look at the success of Motherwell, St Johnstone staying in top flight football if only we could emulate them. We live and hope.

Durmus is a good winger but has lacked service. He gave Waters a bollocking in the first half as when Durmus started a run Waters kept passing inside or back. Forward passing to Durmus improved in the second half but a lot was overhit. Hopefully the link between them will improve through time.

Another weak link in the team surprised more dont see it. Was over the moon when we signed a winger that feeling has gone. I would drop Durmus and Junior.

Based on what we've seen so far I'd go for that. It's still relatively early to make a real judgement. Neither have been a total disaster, both like to put it about a bit and are giving plenty effort. I still have hope that they can come good.

At the moment I think Mullen has to start though. There's been a difference when he comes on. Where Morais has been giving away cheap fouls Mullen is able to draw fouls. I suppose that just comes from having played more games at this level. I also feel that Mullen has the ability to hit a shot from outside the box and score. Not seen anything from the other two yet to suggest they have that.

Would agree with your comment on Mullen. We are going to have another very difficult season scoring goals is a real problem if it does not get fixed we will be relegated.
