  1. How were Glasgow Uni able to enter the Qualifying Cup if that was the case? Can't be bothered checking every season but they did enter 1998-99, beaten by Edinburgh City after a replay.
  2. Ex Lok striker Chris Ewing does have some plans... (however fanciful they might be) https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42958694
  3. As far as I know, Yoker have played at Holm Park since Queen Victoria's time. It's not as if they've moved to Clydebank.
  4. Standard practice in LL / EoS / SoS as relevant is for groundsharers to play Friday night or Sunday afternoon at their designated ground. It seems it's only in our wonderful Junior world, where lights are seen as heretic, that teams have to look elsewhere. BSC, Shire, Edusport - three I can think of playing on Fri or Sun this season. Cumbernauld Colts perhaps also.
  5. Not sure either would be a soft touch in 19/20. It would totally depend what WoS sides get teir house in order and get involved.
  6. And then chose to not do that until LL formation. Both leagues can admit whoever they like, hence Gretna 2008 in EoS prior to LL formation. That doesn't seem to have changed post LL. I'd be staggered if Dalbeattie wanted to journey across to the East regularly at tier 6 (to face sterner opposition and therefore less chance of going back up) when they can save a lot on travel (and can probably have an easier time recruiting players) by not doing so. Much might depend on Threave Rovers though - will they go up, or will they stay in SoS for another year?
  7. I believe Gazzah was disputing whether IHS could count as an amateur side as they don't have an adult amateur side at present.
  8. I do believe that just going into SPFL can awaken latent interest and can bring forward investors. LR's position geographically would boost them. The ageing committee and support will not be there forever and will be replaced one day, perhaps by more people looking to the future's potential than the past's glories.
  9. As an outsider I see Rose in a perfect position - right in the middle of the biggest catchment area for players, from a town that is in one of the wealthiest parts of the country.... http://simd.scot/2016/#/simd2016/BTTTFTT/11/-3.6985/55.9561/ With a population of about 20,000 you could sustain regular 4 figure crowds (I believe the sensible limit for any urban area is 10% but that doesn't take into account existing allegances) . With the revenue available in the higher reaches, increased wage costs are offset. Linlithgow Rose, with the right guidance, could conceivably become the biggest semi pro side in the country. That will never happen in Junior football. What will attract a bigger crowd (long term) to Prestonfield - games vs. Dundee United or St. Mirren or games vs Bathgate or Forfar West End?
  10. Was the offer formal, time-specific, made in writing or minuted in a meeting? Just trying to get a handle on how much of it is wishful thinking and formalised. It's complicated by the fact that it's attributed to a now departed chief executive. In life we can be promised a lot but until it's in writing, signed, sealed and delivered many things can derail it!
  11. I'd wonder if Kelso could ever get back in with their ground as it is?
  12. Considering amateur teams go kaput at the drop of a hat is that really going to be a problem?
  13. I'd be surprised if anyone is turned down unless their facilities don't meet basic requirements.
  14. The South of Scotland League being where it is, unchanged, is an issue as I see it. It has a very small level of population and almost all its clubs are ran on an amateur basis. It has a third the population of Fife and Edinburgh. There is therefore more justification for Fife to have its own feeder or Edinburgh. What about Glasgow, 6 times bigger than D&G? A small rural league cannot fairly have such a share of the access to the LL.
  15. And on the latter, some clubs will be playing 3/4 times a week anyway!
  16. Can the incumbents be trusted to manage 'Jexit'?
  17. And I even watched the highlights on youtube of the 2nd one too...!
  18. Yet Kelty have still to play both games against LTHV who beat them earlier in the season in a cup. No guarantees Kelty are going to win the EoS at first time of asking and it will be hellava lot harder next season.
  19. You also get weird ones like almost no Juniors clubs in Edinburgh itself for long periods, such was the dominance of the EoS.
  20. Non-licenced clubs can qualify for the Scottish Cup by winning the East of Scotland League or by winning the new East/South Shield (the play-off cup for all non-licenced EoS and SoS clubs). The latter not too onerous for any half-decent side. The two winners thus far: Lothian Thistle HV and Tynecastle.
  21. It's really good the Shire website carries estimates, Dalbeattie's too. Not sure of too many otherss, Lok does (as I put them on!).
