  1. New episode of the podcast is up, talking about McDonnell and Honeyman, Montrose, Women's team win & the Cove Rangers game. https://waspsnest.buzzsprout.com
  2. Can understand the Annan result in particular being a real sucker punch, it could have been a launch pad type result after being down to 10. Couldn’t make the 3-3 with ourselves but did watch the stream and thought we were more than fortunate to get something from that game. Certainly felt Sons had something about them and (granted, based on 1 game) looked a step up from the side that were in League 1 a few seasons back.
  3. You guys in a bit of trouble or just needing a wee stroke of luck?
  4. Felt like it was going to be a copy and paste of the games at Links park last season, so was good to take something from a game I felt we were good value for a point. Disaster of a start from PJ to gift the opener but we reacted well and went on to have the best of the first half. Big chance for LD when he shot tamely at Gill but we were looking really dangerous from corners (for probably the first time in a good while) and Morgyn Neill showed great determination to score at the second attempt. We moved the ball much better than we have seen so far this season but only really created half chances. Looked a pretty clear pull back on Buchanan for penalty shout, but could see Montrose just start to come back in to game in last few minutes before the break and Machedo should do better on the stroke of halftime with his effort. Thought Montrose continued that in to the second half and started much better than Alloa. Excellent double save from PJ, before a good 2nd from Montrose. Almost felt an inevitability that Mo were going to score there - something I’ve noticed the last couple seasons that they don’t over commit numbers, but when they sense an opportunity I feel they utilise front men both centrally and wide really well. Overhit cross but it’s recycled really well and it’s a good header past PJ from the follow up. Felt Montrose shaded the 2nd half overall and should have wrapped up the points when Hester was 1 on 1. Not sure what he was trying to do but it was kind of finish that would make you think he had 2-1 Montrose on a coupon. McDonnell made a real difference when he came on, immediately running at and gliding past players. Early days but that was a very promising debut. Not sure who or how the equaliser actually managed to sneak in but delighted to keep up the unbeaten run, albeit slipping off the summit. For me, both sides are a level down on where they were at the end of last season, but with the relative strength of League 1 this year, would be surprised not to see both involved with playoffs (at least) come May. Been no shortage of entertainment in recent years when these 2 meet!

  10. Good to pick up some sort of result and remain undefeated in a game where we didn’t really play well at all. As @printer said it’s been fits and starts so far, with the first half against Annan being the only time we have had any sustained momentum so far in the league. I thought we had a decent 10 minutes leading up to the interval and a short spell in the 2nd half yesterday but outwith that, Arbroath were the better team. In saying that, we restricted them to really only a few half chances. 4 clean sheets from 5 games is encouraging compared to last season and McKay and Neill did well yesterday on the whole. With the chat on Miko, did think he had a bit of a shocker 1st half, being caught on the ball too much (especially for that key transition position) and I wouldn’t really have been surprised to see him hooked at the break. He did start the 2nd half better before coming off, but definitely not at the level yet that we seen when he filled in for Stevie H last season. Pretty obvious we are lacking in the areas we had the loanees last season so hopefully Andy can look for a couple to come in there in the next week or two. Overall, when the season started if you offered me 9 points from the 1st 5, 4 clean sheets and sitting joint top, I would have certainly taken it!
  11. Podcast is back this week and after a long break we round up the league cup campaign before talking through the 4 league games so far. There's also a bit of chat about players that have caught the eye (or not) so far before we talk about the league in general and then on to Arbroath this Saturday. https://waspsnest.buzzsprout.com
  12. Only 1 down and still over 40 odd competitive games to go, but……..That was every bit as dire a start to the season as the defeat to the Binos was last year. Know there’s a few missing and will no doubt be a few (loans) to come in later, but the similarities to last season are worrying - not able to move the ball forward through the midfield and ultimately spending the game watching our centre halves launch aimless long balls to a totally ineffective Sammon. Thought Buchanan started and finished well but dropped out a little either side of half time, and Kane Thomson played well out of position on the left wing, but struggling to take much more positives from tonight. Bar Buchanan, the lack of pace in the squad is a concern, none more so than in that defence. Any team with a bit of pace up top will cause us no end of issues as our centre halves are lost when they need to turn. Need Andy to try and pull a couple of master strokes out of the loan market because the team looked exactly like we did in the few games we had last season when Bobby Wales was away with Scotland.
  13. Was impressed with East Fife tonight, for me, comfortably the better side for all but 10-15 minute spell we had at the start of the second half. May not have created a massive amount of chances but took a really good save from Morrison in 1st half and then the Nathan Austin header at the back post in the 2nd was the really big opportunity to win it.
  14. The podcast is back for the new season after a 6 week break - we start off the new season with episode 90 talking about the preseason games, the trialists, Paddy leaving, our league cup opponents and ticket pricing! https://waspsnest.buzzsprout.com
  15. Agreed, and I think the central one of the 3 is the area you can most get away with a lack of pace - that’s probably the area I’d like to see Cammy get a run of games in. Suppose the difficulty there is he’s competing with Scougall, Kev and LD (although looked like LD was playing up top for part of the Morton game when he came on).
