  1. Short of a twenty goal a season striker, a penalty box poacher, a midfield general, Something who can hold the ball and use it, a couple of maruading full backs and a blood and snotters Centre back? In all honesty, we've got cover in every position, except full back, but even then, we've had that weakness from the start, and it wasn't deemed a priority. The only thing you could say is that none of our strikers are likely to score that many, yet trying to turn up a genuine quiality forward in the January window is a fairly hopeless task at the best of times - unless we end up bringing in a young player from the SPL reserves (which in turn will inspire all kinds of complaints about not giving our own youth a chance). We don't necessarily need more players as such, though - arguably I'd say what we do need is to find a better balance in the midfield. You've got Scott and Callachan who are all action, dynamic headless chickens and you've got Moon and Fox, more measured, good positional sense, probably not quick enough as a unit. Somewhere in there is a pairing, or even a trio that will offer us the balance of covering pivot but able to support the forwards that the latter need to score more goals. nade and Stewart have proven before that if they get chances, they will score.
  2. Nah, yeah I totally agree. Got to assume it's Falkirk - you'd guess Kerr put in a word for him or something, and knowing that stomping his feet would get his way, simply copied Kerr to get out of his Queens contract.
  3. I honestly can't see him haivng decided to walk away from 18 months of secure employment unless he already had a very good idea that another club wanted him.
  4. Well maybe, depends if Falkirk fancy signing any more of your players I guess.
  5. Well, at least that's one less goal QoS are guarenteed against us....?
  6. Maybe he has, but the Falkirk game certainly came too early for him to have any kind of influence. It's not that likely he'd even seen us train by that point. I think Malpas will be valuable to Grant Murray in the long run, but I doubt he'll have been able to stamp any kind of new thinking on management and players in this space of time.
  7. Absolutely agree, if the buck stops with Murray, and we excoriate him in defeat, then it also stops with him in victory and we should afford him the plaudits.
  8. Relatively speaking, yeah I agree. Though he was a defensive coach to a manager with strong opinions and a track record of success. I'd guess Malpas will have more input. Whether that's good or bad we'lol need to see.
  9. It seems to me that a DoF role is a fairly nebulous term that can mean a lot of things depending on what is needed of it. In this case Murray probably needs someone who will help out in the day to day and can offer advice on tactical matters. Someone who can get that defence organised, even if it's just saying the same thing as Murray but in a way more likely to get the players to respond would be helpful.
  10. Yeah, Komarov knew it was a death trap before he went up, the only reason he did was because if he didn't they'd just have sent his backup - and close friend - Gagarin instead.
  11. As miserable as everyone associated with the Rover sis probably feeling just now, for whatever reason - I have to say that Sinky cheered me up a fair bit on Saturday. I think we should move to get Sinky's alternative half time Xmas message as an annual fixture....
  12. To be fair, the Flyers can afford to put entertainment above all else, they play in a league that has no relegation and where finishing third bottom is good enough to get you entry into 'the play offs'
  13. Yeah, I always thought he had a gearing problem: His legs went like the clappers but he never actually moved that fast, by comparison you had Stevie Hislop who looked like was jogging everyhwere but had a massive stride and covered a lot more gorund than Fairbairn ever did.
  14. Maybe, I still remember him scoring an absolute screeching 30 yard shot against Partick Thistle way back in 97/98 I think. As for Kirkwood, overweight or no, right back or no he was still one of the most accomplished passers of the ball, with fantastic range and great deadballs, that Rovers have seen.
  15. I seem to recall Davie Kirkwood and Danny Lennon taking some amount of abuse later in their time with us as well.
  16. Yeah McCulloch was a right back, Sacha Opinel was left back at the time I think (although Craig Mcewan was at the club at the time as well I think and he took a shed load of stick as well), when we had Toastie Burns and Craig Dargo up front wth Didier Agathe on the wing and yet combined that attacking prowess (which included a combative central midfield with Jean Philipe Javary) with a defence including McCulloch, Paul Browne and Guido Van de Kamp in goals. had we been able to defend, we'd have been fucking dangerous back then.
  17. 'Brucie' is the chairman? With that level of PR skill, ability to engage with others and indeed, that level of reading and writing, no wonder the poor b*****ds have gone to the wall.
  18. Playing devil's advocate here, but if you are going to do that, do you then exclude results against full time teams with more than, say, double our home support and budget? For example, would you then remove our results against Hearts, Rangers and even Hibs this year, and possibly against Dundee last year as well?
