  1. Way off in my predicted score but somehow we managed to win. That was mainly due to an excellent save by Josh Rae and a poor rebound shot from the one time Stranraer broke through.

It was the usual keep the ball moving against a resolute defence but apart from a good cross and nice flick and finish by Gal, I can say that we didn't break through enough but we're through anyway.

Lovely drive down but it became really cold on the feet

Stranraer look ok for safety in L2 once injuries clear up.

  2. Spoke with some Stranraer guys last night and they have many injuries of their better players so we'll have to be alert tomorrow! Have been allocated parts of the wee North stand and the terrace, as well as the grassy slope behind the goal. Weather looks cold but dry and it's a heavy pitch so playing out from the back might feature less!

    3 - 0 to the Diamonds!

As is looking through their squad. Discounting Scott Agnew former diamonds amongst them include Sean McIntosh, Scott Robertson, Grant Gallagher and Dean Hawkshaw all of whom played for us not that long ago, as recently as Murray's first season. Don't think any of them would get a game now!

I've only been to Stair Park once. Won 3-1 and Taylor Morgan chipped the goalkeeper. Thankfully wasn't there in 2003.

Leighton McIntosh hat trick and Bollans last game as manager, are two of my experiences at Stranraer. The ex Diamonds will be interesting to see. I was at the 2003 game and it was a really annoying announcer,  and a long silent drive back, in those days on my own, with no one to debate .

Haven't seen a cup tie at this stage since I used to be away on a holiday. Hope we maintain our recent cup wins.

Don't be silly, they will just fly up. With CT getting a 4 hr bus ride.

Adjacent stadium to Raith or Airdrie. EEP it must be.

PS Airdrie were good at the penalties today and we missed big Robbie's automatic conversion. Feck knows how this game ended 0 v 0 but a good game and gives us a bit of hope that there is a way back to the Championship pack.

I agree with your assessment of the game today and it's a long season. Thought your wee left winger contributed a great deal and in general the second half was yours until we could have won it with the late counter attacks.

  5. Posted briefly elsewhere but the others are spot on about O'Connor at this level.

Charlie Telfer was excellent throughout but Dean looked a bit off it today after early booking and we could have lost heavily in second half but for Morton's feeble attempts and some great saves by Josh . He must have spent less time outside the box today than in so many other games this season.

Gal was also not quite there although I remain unconvinced by Todororov.

We did seem to change from 3-5-2 in the first half to a 4-3-3 and it opened up the game to Morton.

The foul on McGregor was shocking and a well deserved red card but I felt the Ref might have let it run on to a penalty pull on Todororov ( highlights maybe).

I enjoyed it even in the stand watching through a running stream from the ramshackle guttering.

It might be good atmosphere in a dry day but the wee Dublin entrance is so dilapidated and the fording of the giant puddle at the end was a sight to behold

On to another shot at Mr Murray!♦️

  6. Settled nicely in the narrow stand and it's a game where somehow it was a no score draw with both sides missing chances, the woodwork, and some excellent saves by the goalies ( Rae was busier in second half).

Smashing penalty shoot out and Morton probably feel aggrieved at losing, but them's the breaks.

On to a prospect of a decent semi final in February and for once I hope Falkirk turf out the other lot.

The flooded area just outside the wee Dublin exit summed up a rotten day of weather but a marvelous result for the Diamonds.

Are any of the games on TV tonight?

BBC Alba and I can now stretch my legs out in the Cappielow stand  according to the Airdrie website as long as I don't have a golf umbrella: the old cliche about Golf being a waste of a good walk applies to me.

Agree. Anyone with legs would surely rather be behind the goal

I get it that it's not the greatest leg room in the stand but the weather forecast for Saturday outdoor is unpleasant, and choice ought to be possible in this case. It will be my third visit to Cappielow in a short spell and indeed it was much better standing behind the barrier in the cowshed.

Still hoping for a good match having dumped the Colts out!

    Cheers

Off to Cappielow again and I presume we can be under cover in the narrow spaced seats of the main stand?

Think the prices are a tenner for the older gentlemen which is much better than Hamilton?

No idea how the game will pan out.

Never like quoting my own post but why on earth do Greenock Morton think it's fair to offer no choice except that so called seated area behind the goals, whilst the main west stand area remains largely unused?

Dicks notorious for the triple subs, can't remember one working out favourably for us if I'm honest,,, total shambles yet again 🙈

Can we just agree that Dick's notorious? It's the bunnet that makes him a character. Seriously I think he has been a good manager but maybe it's becoming more difficult now.

  11. Airdrie won almost all the individual battles and fifty fifty contests.

The formation from last week did its job again and Frizzell was outstanding. I also thought Ballantyne was very close to being MOM.

Arbroath clearly miss O'Brien and whilst up front the two guys were quite skilful, I don't remember Rae or our defence being troubled.

Certainly the space given to Todororov to break through was nice to see and McStravick did well to pounce. In the second half McGregor's pace should have led to an even earlier second and the through ball from Gallagher was the kind of thing of beauty that he does. Well done to Lewis for staying composed.

Great to see Dick occasionally losing the plot and his triple subs was a wee bit desperate, a la Ian Murray.

Glad to stay ahead of the others and the cups are getting in the road! When did we last say that!

Well done Airdrie for getting rid of the last of the B Team imposters

And much against my previous posts on the format, I toddled off to Cappielow last night. It was good to end the involvement of the B teams, although the game was at one stage a lot closer than I'd like.

No point having an analysis as the game was finished by another sumptuous Rhys McCabe free kick. I can't remember him scoring from open play, but more of this Please.

The pre match Bovril lacked enough beefy flavour but it was at least hot.

Back to Cappielow for a different kind of challenge.

  13. Thank goodness we won that tie. It was a strange side compared to Saturday in that all of our forwards bar Todororov McStravick, started the game and it was a bit of a weakness when Rangers B came back into the match from 3-1 down, as their midfield ran the show.

It was a relief when Rhys did his wonder free kick again. Surely he'll not shoot again said I !

There was a spell at 3-2 when they hit the bar and our defence appeared to be Cassidy and Dunlop at full back.

We squandered lots of counter attacks except for McGill and it was good to see, but through we go for another trip to Cappielow.

Spoke to Hancock at half time and he reckons he's out for about two weeks.

    Now for the bunnet man.
