Shinnie in for Sangare and Parkes replacing Boyes is warranted, both had poor games against Accies, Shamal in for Hamilton is just a rotation prob, didn't think Hamilton could do much for the goal and he made a good save to keep it to 1 goal. Stephen Kelly still on the bench is disappointing though.

I think it's a case of trying to keep Kelly fit for the league games where he'll be more important

On a completely different subject one of my sons' got his away top yesterday - he got an XL but its really no more than a medium and there's virtually no give in the shirt. Be warned and order a size or two bigger than you expect.

Yeah, the word from the shop seems to be that the sizing is the same as last season but they definitely seem more snug this season. Maybe explains why there's now a 6xl option that wasn't there last season

Wasn't he flying up from South Africa yesterday? Its at least a 12 hour journey; more if he needs to change which he probably does.

After that he probably needs some chill time. He's hardly want to do the tour; negotiate and sign before the customary "press"conference - or maybe they're waiting for Callum Carson to get back from the lakes?

They better hurry up, the South Africans are hounding the club all over the socials. I was getting quite excited seeing how highly they rate him but then my Motherwell supporting mate reminded me that the Ugandan fans were doing the same when Mugabi signed for them....even comparing him to a prime Maldini. I think he looks more like Nardini, personally

Seem to recall Dolly Menga had a dreadful reputation for self discipline.

Didn't we end up ensuring he travelled to an away ground with another player to ensure he got there due to a previous non-show?

I think Efe Ambrose had a chaperone for travelling except the cup final where he actually made it before everyone if I remember right

Colour me surprised, 1-0 Livi, Brucie scoring. 4 clean sheets in our friendlies. Back three seems to be working well.

The back 3 was immense with Gallagher, Halkett and Lithgow so if we could get back to something like that it'd great. It also allows us to get more support to the striker which is something we seriously lacked last season. With our well known budget constraints Martindale seems to be going back to making us hard to beat which will be a welcome sight to all the opposition fans...Livi back to being b*****ds.....YAS

He was the one that joined in the COVID year we made the league cup final. Coincidentally I think he was the first EU player to come to the UK following Brexit - the issues that came with that meant he wasn't eligible to play until something like March/April which was a shame as we had an option to buy on him too. He was meant to play LWB in the final, but obviously couldn't play which was partly why Bartley played there I'm sure.

Diani was more of a holding midfielder and fairly forgettable. I believe the plan was to play Serrano at LWB in the final but he was injured and that's when we re-signed Jackson Longridge but he wasn't fit/registered in time. I still stand by the opinion that Marv did the job well that day. Shaun Rooney was their main threat and he kept him quiet. The only time he caused us an issue was at the corner when someone else was supposed to be marking him (Lawson maybe)

I’ve no idea what you’re getting for Anderson but we’re holding out for a fee in the region of £200K. He’s also looking to move back to England so I doubt the move would interest him.

I believe the fee agreed was around £500k...can't blame the club for accepting that in all honesty when he's out of contract next year.

The one in one out comment by Martindale - I assume that's particularly in reference to Goncalves and Bitsindou. As they're under contract I assume that we are committed to paying their wages until they can get another club lined up.

For Goncalves; I'm not too sure of his prospects; he's now 32 and, although his fitness has improved, he's presumably at the twilight of his career. He could probably do a job for a lower league (League 1?) side but would they be able to match his wage demands? With maybe no more than a couple of years left playing professional football he'd be unlikely to volunteer for a huge pay-cut just to keep playing.

Bitsindou is only 27 and presumably has more options.

I believe Goncalves turned up for preseason training in a worse physical condition than he arrived in last season

Could be worth noting the extra year options we've got on guys like Sangare too. One of Sangare/Welch-Hayes was a 3 year deal too I think? Either that or both were 2+1

Yeah, it does seem to be a standard practice for Martindale to add the extra year incentive. I thought about including it but it started to get a bit messy
