I know this is a different tangent to your point but it's important to reiterate, he's not there on work experience or as a fan experience. He had opportunities with Stirling and Peterhead - you don't get offers to jump up from amateur level if you've not got some substance there.

A very good point. And, if we can take him at his word on his own skillset, it sounds like he'll be a legitimate alternative to Liam Dick, at least stylistically.

Music to my ears to hear a fullback saying he likes to open up and get running forward.

  2. For anyone who hasn't done so yet, I'd thoroughly recommend listening to the welcome interview with Callum Hannah. Seems like a great lad, very much living the dream that a lot of us would've had at that age (and, frankly, may still have, even if the ravages of time and absence of any sort of ability render it impossible).

You can really hear what it meant to him when he got the reception he did at his first warm up. Can't wait to hear the South Stand when he's first subbed on.

  3. I can see the sense in it, but my overwhelming reaction is disappointment. As touched on above, he gives us something different with his very direct running, that we don't really get from anyone else.

Hopefully it's just a case of getting him up to speed with a lot of minutes so he can come back in January at full tilt rather than having to make do with ten minutes every week, but I'd be much happier if we still had him as an option.

  4. The last time we beat Caley Thistle; the Twin Towers proudly graced the New York skyline, Still Game was only in the early stages of development, Ethan Ross hadn't been born yet, and Greece was still using the Drachma.

It's going to take more than just Billy Dodds' managerial incompetence and John Robertson's persistent absenteeism to overcome this hoodoo.

I'm not 100% as I'm no rules expert maybe someone can clarify.

Wasn't at game today. What happened  to Thomson? Did it look a bad injury?

He had his thigh strapped up at full time, could be his hamstring. Looked like he'd tweaked something and then exacerbated it with a kicked clearance. Very difficult to tell how serious it is.

  6. We've done a lot of passing. We haven't managed to make it come to anything, really. It definitely feels like a friendly, with the weather not helping that. I'd have thought the attacking players we've got on the bench must be looking forward to getting involved though, the defenders who've played the full match not so much.

As of this minute no he's fit to play. That can change if he trips off the team bus.

There's every chance they've decided to adopt some pragmatism in the intervening fortnight, but Queens stuck steadfastly to a ridiculously high line for the majority of the game against us, despite continually being caught out. Michael O'Halloran of four or five years ago would be in his element.

To the game itself, QP play a really high line and seem to be a bit of a madhouse at the back at times, but also good going forward.

We need to play our best counter game but fckn hell,  happy just to see a starting 11 right now.

Is Lewis McCann one of your many, many injured? If Queen's Park set up defensively like they did against us, he'll have an absolute field day.

  9. It's a case that a good lawyer would be happy to take either side on. You can make a strong, convincing argument that it should only be a yellow, or that it's deservedly a red.

Someone above bemoaned the lack of input from the linesman, but I wonder if the opposite isn't true. If you watch the highlights, as the referee blows the whistle he drops his hand to his front pocket, where his yellow card is. As Byrne comes in to start the argument, he moves his hand away and then goes to his back pocket for the red. There's no chance he's changed his mind based on salient points raised by the Rovers players, and he might just be reconsidering having had a second to think, but I think the most likely scenario is the linesman (rightly or wrongly) is in his ear telling him it's a red.

I've got very little sympathy for the defender, though. As soon as he's turned he's grabbing Hamilton's shirt, no intention to actually do any defending. The law is obviously all about the goalscoring opportunity and nothing to do with the defender's intent, but when it's as cynical as that, I don't think you deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Another absolutely sexy highlights package by RaithTV, genuinely seems to get better every week with the additional camera angles and on pitch footage at the end. I did noticed the QP number 5 kicked out at Vaughan on the final whistle tho

Same boy that stamped on Sam Stanton last season. A horrible egg, lovely to see him getting his chops again.

  11. Aye, without getting into the same debate some of our neighbours did last week, there are enough chances there to win several games.

Much like the 5-2 game last year where they scored with all five shots on target, Queens were clinical with the chances they had, with a good deal of assistance from our goalkeeper and defence, it has to be said.

A minor complaint, but could do without the bairns immediately below the camera position. I know we debated whether or not the highlights should include RaithTV commentary, but it certainly doesn't need a few mouthy nine year olds!
