  1. His arm isn't that far out wide, though. It is a completely natural movement and position for the jump, and then it comes out wide after the ball makes contact with his arm and Iwata is trying to regain his balance. The position of his arm when the ball makes contact is a consequence of the jumping action, and a completely natural one. Even under the current laws, which are a nonsense, it should not be penalised. I don't want to be that guy, and VAR does absolutely suck, but it seems to be particularly bad in Scotland; I think they would have taken about two seconds to clear that and play on in several other leagues with VAR.
  2. How is that an unnatural position for a player to be jumping there? We have completely lost the plot when it comes to handballs, and it seems to be particularly bad in Scotland. For balance, the one given against Lundstram in midweek was also a nonsense.
  3. One of my absolute favourite sights and sounds in Scottish football is the front of the Wheatfield Stand when an opposition player steals about five yards at a throw-in.
  4. I thought he actually had a decent game for the most part yesterday, but looking back at the winning goal, it is ridiculously bad from "best centre-back at the club by far!!!11" MacDonald.
  5. I have listened to some of them, but I don't read anything into them and I doubt the players pay attention to them. We had two managers in Glass and Goodwin who came across well in interviews but failed to deliver when it mattered. It is a sideshow, all told. I don't get the impression, at least from today's performance, that this is a team that has downed tools or anything like that. It is a flawed team, a struggling team, but I would venture that any chat of 'revolt' is misplaced for now. And, frankly, this group of players simply does not have the credit in the bank to be throwing their toys out of the pram over relatively innocuous (and frankly accurate) comments from their manager, even if they wanted to.
  6. This seems a bit much. It has been five league games, discounting Rangers where by Warnock's own admission he had next to no input, with a very flawed and unbalanced squad. These results and performances could just have easily have been produced with Leven in charge. It is still too small a sample size to be demanding a sacking, even if we have not had the bounce we hoped. We have to guard against reading too much into what he - or indeed any manager - says in interviews, too. I think Miovski is brilliant, but he was poor at the first goal against Kilmarnock and I don't think it is exactly outrageous for his manager to briefly note that. If Miovski is to have the career he is capable of having, he will have managers who will criticise him and expect a reaction. I don't think it's a big issue.
  7. We have definitely been more comfortable against a certain 'type' of opposition this season; one that allows us to sit in a low block, to create chances primarily through counter-attacks and transitions, and to essentially play a reactive game. In fairness to Robson, he did a good job of coaching us to play in that style against superior opposition; the primary problem is that this is not transferable for the majority of domestic games that Aberdeen will play in a season, and that was ultimately what ended up costing Robson his job. I suppose it isn't so much that there aren't some good individuals in there - there are, even if not as many as we initially hoped - but we are painfully short in key positions and the actual balance of the squad is completely wrong.
  8. Well, at least Cormack has placated those who think they are entitled to an apology for their football team playing rubbish.
  9. I suppose we all see games differently, but I thought Duk and Hoilett were two of the better players on the pitch and we lost quite a bit of our threat in transition when they went off.
  10. I wouldn't go as far as saying that we were good, but I thought we were OK for the majority of the game - no more than that, though. It was mostly basic stuff, but we have been rubbish at the basics for the majority of the season. The shape behind the ball was reasonably sound, the low block ensured our defenders were very rarely turned to face their own goal, and there were occasional signs that we could have some joy on the counter-attack, even if we were a bit wasteful. Barron's goal is an exceptional strike, and allowed us to settle into a system where we can look a bit more convincing as a collective. Duk was causing St Mirren some issues on our right in the first half, especially when he got one-on-one, and Hoilett showed glimpses of his quality with the ball. St Mirren were clearly targeting Roos with high balls from set pieces wherever possible, which is completely understandable, but we were just about surviving, and I thought MacDonald was strong in the air and marshalled the defence well for the most part. The second half was mostly a containment job. In fairness, I can't recall St Mirren being able to create anything really high quality until Devlin gifts them a penalty. We could have retained possession better, and it would have been nice to play in the final third a bit more often, but they largely had the ball in reasonably 'safe' areas for us. I thought going into stoppage time that we were going to win, but Devlin gifts away another goal when we are in a winning position, and even from behind the goal I knew as soon as Walsh blew the whistle for the initial free-kick that it would be changed to a penalty. We then allow ourselves to be counter-attacked virtually straight from kick-off and the defending looks characteristically untidy, but I haven't seen it back yet so won't single anybody out. It is one of those moments where it would have been wise to accept that St Mirren are currently a better team than us and, as disappointing as dropping two points would have been having been leading from literally the first minute, it would have still been a decent point for this team and very obviously a preferable outcome to losing the game. It is obviously gutting to lose like we did, but I did think there were some decent individual performances. I thought Shinnie was excellent, and Barron was also very good. Duk and Hoilett were bright in the first half, if occasionally a touch wasteful in the final third. The defence did well enough until the penalty, at least when it came to the bread and butter defensive stuff. I suppose the most concerning aspect is that relegated teams tend to lose games in the manner that we did today, and we are absolutely in a fight for survival. I am not sure if enough of our players have the stomach for it, but I suppose time will tell.
  11. Our Twitter fanbase is something else. Just wall-to-wall nonsense. I merely observe, but a mixture of hilarious and maddening in almost equal amounts nevertheless.
  12. After being stuck with the likes of Clancy and Munro in recent weeks, Walsh and Collum should be a refreshing outbreak of occasional competence.
  13. Actually burst out laughing at this, tbh.
  14. I think the dominant narrative under Robson was that we had the third or fourth best squad in the league, and it was his coaching holding them back. I was guilty of falling into this to at least some extent, too. I'm not making excuses for Robson, of course, and it was absolutely correct to part ways, but the problems run deeper. I certainly don't disagree with anything you have said, though. The likes of Jensen, Polvara and McGarry on contracts until 2026 is not currently looking like a glowing endorsement of our squad building, to say the least.
  15. Rest in peace, honey.
  16. I think we probably have been guilty of overrating this squad of players, to be honest. They should have got more points than they have, but there are some pretty fatal flaws: they are extremely soft, there is a lack of height and physicality throughout the team, there is a lack of speed and width, and the defenders are pretty much all somewhere between mediocre and bad. We have one outstanding individual in Miovski and some other good if underperforming players in midfield, but the likes of Kilmarnock and St Mirren are ahead of us because they are much better and more balanced collectives than us.
  17. He clearly isn't doing a particularly good job so far, but I do find the demands to already sack Warnock from a section of our support a bit tedious. What happens after that? Leven until the end of the season presumably, and then what if he loses a couple of games in a row? After all, he is still on the coaching staff and will have Warnock's ear. It is probably just modern football fans on social media, but we do seem to be particularly bad for it.
  18. The last thing we need is Cormack making the next appointment, regardless of the timeframe.
  19. I don't want to put too much blame at Warnock's door, but it's clearly not going well. Bigger picture, though; this is on Cormack. Tonight, like Saturday, like many insipid performances this season under both Warnock and Robson, is basically his tenure in microcosm. Confusion, short-termism, laziness, lack of direction, no substance. That is Cormack's Aberdeen in a nutshell.
  20. We are just a defeat on Saturday away from Dave calling up Sportsound again to shout at Kenny Macintyre.
  21. I’ve not been as keen on the last couple of seasons, but I have enjoyed the first four episodes of this one. Maybe something to do with knowing it’s the last season makes me appreciate it more.
  22. I don't think I am exaggerating when I say that is genuinely the most enjoyable goalless extra-time I have ever watched.
