  1. I take it the next episode isn't freely available online, but rather has to be accessed through O2 Priority or suchlike? Pity if so as I'm not on O2, but I think I can just about wait another 24 hours.

Following on from the earlier suggestions for favourite ever episode, I notice Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain's top six are listed on the Channel 4 website: http://www.channel4.com/programmes/peep-show/articles/all/the-6-best-episodes(worth noting that this list was compiled in 2010).

  2. The majority of moronic drivel I have to suffer on Facebook is courtesy of my cousin's fiance. His page is an unholy melange of Britain First, The LAD Bible and Right Wing News. He isn't the most unpleasant individual to encounter, but he is nonetheless a massive simpleton.

This is his most recent share, which I'm sure I also saw doing the rounds a few months back.

    Sounds affective to me.

  3. Mitt: This is a documentary film on Netflix, directed by Greg Whitley, mainly chronicling Mitt Romney's failed 2008 bid for the Republican presidential nomination, followed by his unsuccessful candidacy for president in 2012. Whitley is evidently sympathetic to Romney, and some of the more awkward elements of the respective campaigns are eliminated from the film, but it is very well produced nonetheless. I won't say too much for those who might fancy giving it a watch, but it favourably altered my perception of Romney's personality if not his politics. 8/10.

  4. I'm slightly irritated by the decision to move the Celtic game from Saturday 2nd to Wednesday 6th. Whilst I would have expected a lunchtime kick-off on either the Saturday or Sunday, I didn't foresee a switch to the middle of the week. Also, the fifth round of the Scottish Cup is the weekend immediately following that fixture, so, if we do get the better of Hearts, it doesn't give us the greatest amount of time to recuperate and prepare.

  5. I'm FB friends with a co-worker but I have her page blocked simply because 99% of the stuff she posts is drivel like this. Curiously, for someone apparently so anti-footballer; She's a huge Man Utd fan and yes, she lives in the south of England.

The way I see it, there are two solutions to the 'problem' outlined above. She and everyone else could stop attending football games, buying merchandise, tuning into the television coverage or buying the products of the sponsors. As a result, footballers would get paid less. Or, every soldier could be paid $250,000 a year which would cause taxes to skyrocket. Somehow I doubt she would be happy with either of those options.

To be honest, I'm beginning to think that the only reason I retain a presence on Facebook is to mock such inane nonsense.

Of course, the sentiment is entirely emotive and irrational. There are very few footballers with the ability to command £250,000 every week, but, where they are available, there will inevitably be high demand. There are many potential soldiers, however, and disregarding exceptional circumstances, supply would surely be expected to outstrip demand.

I do sometimes wonder why footballers are the subject of this particular comparison. Why not, for example, top actors? The cynical side of me says it might have something to do with the working-class upbringing of many footballers. Likewise, it could be related to latent intellectual snobbery.

  6. I looked at that one but in the end went for the 6P. The 5X looked too plastic for me, the 6P just looks much nicer (got the aluminium one). And the screen on the 6P is awesome - quad HD amoled straight out of the Samsung Note. 27.50 a month on EE is an absolute bargain.

I got the Carbon Black 5X. I did take a gander at the 6P, but I decided, among other factors, that the display was slightly on the large side for my liking. 5.2" is pushing my limits, but 5.7" is a little too much for me. I wasn't aware of Nexus Imprint until I was configuring the phone, but I've become a big fan since.

  7. According to Wikipedia, next week's episode involves Mark's son, so you would imagine that's when Sophie will make an appearance. Strange to think that next week will be the penultimate ever installment.

  8. I took a gamble on the Nexus 5X (32GB) about a month ago now, and it's been very impressive thus far. To be honest, my knowledge of smartphones is fairly limited, so I was basically looking for something within my price-range which was capable of doing everything I wanted it to. After pursuing the initial reviews, I decided this looked as good as any other option I had on my radar, but with a slightly lighter price tag attached.

I have never owned an iPhone, but I expect I will submit at some stage in the future. I might well have ended up with one this time around, but I couldn't quite justify the price markup when compared to what I was paying for the Nexus (£350 sim-free from Carphone Warehouse, with three free months of Google Play Music included).

  9. BBC claiming a reduced majority despite Labour romping home is an interesting take on tonight's vote.

UKIP are a huge irrelevance and forever will be. Was it Oldham where Gordon Brown got caught calling some old dear a bigot?

    Rochdale.

  10. Alex Salmond's comments are very, well, Alex Salmond. If I hadn't known who had made the remarks before hearing them, I would have guessed that he was the most likely culprit.

I have no reason to find the comments personally hurtful or offensive, but Hilary Benn might. They are crass and suggest a lack of emotional intelligence.
