There unfortunately lies the problem with football, it’s not played out in paper.

I have watched from afar in relation to the Stranraer issue over the past few seasons, and to date I have refrained from comment however, in response to the call for a change of manager I find astonishing. I read throughout last season that the club had sustained something in the region of 50 odd injuries, quite frankly, there is not a team in the land who could mitigate against such a horrendous plight, and further when you accumulate  this fact to that of Stranraer undoubtedly had by some distance the lowest budget in league 1 consistently in previous seasons, is it any wonder eventually the well run dry?

I was actually surprised that following the financial restraints that were publicly well documented a few seasons ago, that Stranraer actually survived as long as they so did in league 1 with the limited resources at their disposal?

As for this season well even at my own club I would suggest, really? Are we actually speculating after 3 league games to sack the manager? from what I have witnessed the Stranraer manager has a habit of fighting against odds heavily weighted against him previously, so if I were a supporter I would get behind the club and I’m sure they may go onto have a decent season

Granted, injuries and finances have not helped but, you can also help yourself.   In the last few seasons we've went out and signed an injury prone Grant Gallagher and an injured Andy Stilring. We were told Ian Smith was being invited to pre season to prove his fitness but, then signed him before pre season started.

I didn't object to the signings of Gallagher or Stirling at the time as both when fit can easily prove their worth. What I do disagree with is using it as an excuse. Knew what we were getting when they signed.

The longer the abject performances are going the less expectant some of our support are becoming.  People seem to take comfort in saying we deserved a draw from that game or we created a couple of chances, keep playing like that and it will come. Well sorry to state the obvious but, it didn't come. I'll keep repeating this, two games we won last seaosn. TWO! In what world is this acceptable?

Do you keep rolling with the same lax attitude this season and face relegation again? Put the entire existence of the club on the line?

Our last home game in League 1epitomised  things for me. Playing Montrose, our last chance to keep things in our hands mathematically and we couldn't even register a short on target. Lost a goal and the team threw the towel in. Captain is standing with his hands on his hips head down, as if they were defeated from that minute.

As for fans getting behind the club. Stranraer FC are served by a small bunch who have a blind loyalty. 300 or so who are there whatever. There are many who give up their own time to go out and do odd jobs at the ground, stuff the players or management probably don't even realize goes on but, all to give them a better environment on a Saturday. You've also got the Fans Fundraising group who've done a power of work during close season, not just helped financially, but brought a bit of feel good and helped engage with the community. So absolute no question of fans getting behind the club. Getting behind the manager is a different story.

On the basis of yesterday's game, I think Stranraer have the makings of a decent side. As I said in the match thread, though, about two thirds through the game, you started to waste time. Bizarre when you were on top and with a strong wind behind you.

Can’t say I noticed the time wasting but this is something we accused of regularly. I know it’s part and parcel of the game if you’re protecting a lead late in the game.
Would have to question, are we doing this as a tactic, is it because of lack of ideas or possibly lacking in fitness? Any of the three point to a failure though.

I can’t see it but hopefully the committee meeting tonight results in the sacking of the manager ( that’s if they still meet on Monday nights. ) Someone new in for the two cup games which would be a free his as no way we are progressing anyway.

  3. So d spoiled the game but, didn’t think there was much between the two teams.
great chance for Stranraer at the end of the first, other than the we failed to create anything clear cut. Looked organised at the back and Miller was really good in the middle.

For the payers they have Queens Park didn’t do much for me although, fully aware had not been so windy they probably would of hammered us.

This and Elgin next week. I'm greetin' already

We've got a decent record at Stranraer over the years. Don't see why that can't continue if the players apply themselves properly.  I know Rovers were pish last week but we should be full of confidence now after a sticky opening few games.

Hopefully Slater will start this one

They were all in the pub last night.

How are folk feeling about the Queen’s Park game then? They’ve not quite hit the ground running as I thought, but the way our defence was in the Elgin game I do fear Simon Murray...

Last week was an improvement, took a bit of guts to dig out a draw after the Elgin shambles.

No matter how we are playing Queens Park would probably be a team to be feared. We have the makings of a good team but haven't really shown it yet. A positive result might give us something to kick on from.

Be nice to register a couple of wins before the break for the cup.

  6. Wish Purdue a speedy recovery.  If he’d got up and walked away nobody would be talking about the tackle. Some of the criticism I feel is unfair. An honest attempt to win the ball. Anyone that’s watched Gallagher will know that.
Took a lot of guts to hold on for a draw yesterday given how soulless our performance was against Elgin.
Happy enough with a point away from home.

    Highlights from Annan v Stranraer

For any Annan fans wanting to see their goals seeing as Pixie Lott didn't manage to capture it live.

What a waste of £10 that was.

We looked good in spells, that's when the camera wasn't watching Fleming scratch his balls. Well worked goal managed to see that much.

Why is bsc game cancelled ?

    Covid related or ?

God knows but, this is the third friendly in a week we've had cancelled. Now trying to arrange a friendly with Cumnock who we were due to play last week.

Must be a real frustration for players and management. They did manage to get a game against Queen of The South on Thursday night but don't think anyone was supposed to know about that one.

  9. Small plug for the Stranraer FC Fans Fundraising group.

The group have raised around £6000 for the club in six weeks through various raffles, prize draws etc. We are now looking to use this help more than just the football club and will be walking from Stair Park to Galabank for our first away game of the season. All money raised will be split between MND Scotland and Stranraer FC Fans Fundraising.

The route will cover 94.5 miles, which we plan to cover over three days, hoping to make it in time for kick off on the 24th of October.

Any donation or mention is most welcome.

When are our away friendlies or are we waiting til fans are back before we play them?

Dates not been released yet I don’t think Although there was something mentioned on this weeks It’s No Easy.
Game against an English side fell through, we’ll now play Ballymena at Stair Park instead.

Sheffield United wanted a game against us but was before we are even due to start training.

No free entrance for kids this season .

Hopefully no more moves to push supporters or potential support away.

We were on to a good thing last season with the youngsters last seasons real shame to let it slip.

Credit were credit is due. Guys running the club have revisited this.

    Well done all.

Jamie Adams has signed for Creetown on the basis that he only plays on grass parks. Great signing for Creetown none the less!

A fair coup for Creetown.  A fit Jamie Adams wouldn’t of been shy of offers.

Unfortunately the boy has a nightmare with injuries. Still a managed to have a decent career which is testament to his character.

Jamie was offered a deal at Stranraer but, felt League 2 might be too much for his body.  Admire him for recognising this. Many a player over the years has been happy to sit and take a pay packet knowing fine well they’re not up to it.

Looking forward to seeing a good competitive Creetown side.

Great news tonight about Andy Stirling. If Faz can get him anywhere near back to his best we’ll be on to something.

Slightly disappointed with the other news tonight regarding season tickets.
£180 for 14 games compared to £215 for 18 last season.
£12.85 per game compared to £11.94 a game on last seasons.
Add in that general admission this season is cheaper than last it makes it even worse value.
In addition to this we’re a league below last with a manager who could only muster two league wins.

Around £8000 raised by supporters in recent months. It would of been nice to see a thank you reflected in the price of the season ticket.

No doubt this comes across as me being very tight, for the record I’ll be stupid or loyal enough still to pay it.

Detailed realises from the club on this -

The shorter season effectively ment reductions on season ticket could not be as much as usual with the outcome being its effectively just over one game free and we are aware that to some who know beforehand that they may miss games, it is not a cost effective as normal. The alternative as some clubs have taken the choice is not to produce season tickets for season 20/21.
The club to start up again will have to put a lot of time, effort and cost into this happening. It may well be a bus and individual cars are required for the squad and managementeven to attend games. Deep clean stadium pre-start will be in the region of 5K with ongoing cleaning cost to SFA covid awareness standard at a much higher cost than normal  measures. Marking ect for social distancing all have be put in place with hospitality, if allowed at all, cut dramatically. Then we have the real financial drain, if still the process, of player and backroom staff testing either once at £1500 a week or twice at £3000. All these factors while trying to give the manager a budget that allows him to put together a competitive squad that entertains and hopefully excites the fans all put together mean it is a huge juggling act for our tresurer to fund all aspects of the club
