  1. It's strange how it's all worked out with the forward line up this season, not helped by injuries, lack of form, up against stronger defences so fewer chances to score?:-

Todorov looked really rusty and disappointing when he joined and seemed to slip out of contention, but to be fair has been good since the turn of the year - if you'd asked me before Christmas do I think he will be away a def. yes, now can see him staying on unless as said another, better offer comes in.

McGill and Gallagher - ultimately disappointing season for both of them, not helped by injury and the other reasons mentioned above, and of course Todorov (and indeed McStravick) really shining since January. I do agree I think both will be offski, I would be surprised if they remain, but wholeheartedly agree they will be fondly remembered for their efforts in League One.

Elsewhere O'Connor looked a real handful when he initially played but quickly went off the boil with Aiken looking the better of the Hibs loanees. Aiken again another whose season has been harmed by injury. A few promising signs from O'Connor recently (his goals of course) but ultimately too late to salvage himself - expect him to be away.

They talk about playing the 'right way' like they're prime Barca.

The difference between our clubs is that they think this has been a great season while we're desperate for it to end because we've been horse shit. Yet they're only 1 point ahead and might as well not turn up against us.

Of course we've had a very good season so far:- Arguably the smallest budget in the league, years languishing in league one and so far last 16 of the League and Scottish Cups, skirting in and close to the play offs, winning the challenge cup. I would agree with you that by your standards Ayr should be doing better, by our standards yes disappointed by some of the results and performances but in our past and current position we have made a good fist of it this season.

FWIW think your new stand will look quite tidy when it's complete. Is the plan to have the whole of the seated and standing section for home fans only...what will happen if you are facing a big traveling support (supposing you get promoted?) - will they not have access beyond the corner of the existing away end terracing?

I usually stumble across it on the BBC match report under line-ups after a few days.

The BBC are reporting the crowd as 6555 (?!). Not sure how they got to this figure as Hearts must have sold near enough 4500, the main stand was full other than section A (250) and a few rows behind the dugouts/a few empty seats here and there (say 150 tops). Even stripping out the middle hospitality section I think the figure should be starting with a 7 and not a 6?

  4. I've just watched the game back (okay, I did fast forward at some parts! 😖) - the encouraging thing is how positive the pre match and indeed post match analysis of Airdrie was...our style of play now being recognised by managers and media across the country, almost a breath of fresh air! Rhys coming across well on camera too, I think yesterday's game has shown the whole club, from the boardroom right to players and everyone behind the scenes in a very good light, despite the defeat. That can only be good for potentially attracting more people to come to the games, sponsors, hospitality etc... AND players who might consider Airdrie as an option.

Of course the reality hits us again this week, with the League the focus, and quite a bit of a way to go yet.

I thought we competed well yesterday. A shame to go 3-0 down so early on, us hitting the bar and them going straight up the park to score their second killed the game, and was a good microcosm of the difference between the teams. We didn’t take the bulk of our chances while they were ruthless. But I thought we held our own at times, against what’s by a mile the 3rd best team in the country, whilst playing our own style. We’ve got to be happy that we can do that against such a good team. Frizz took his goal well and Hancock, other than getting caught in two minds for the 2nd, was excellent. And I thought Lyall showed up well too. We clearly lack quality upfront but McGregor put in a power of hard work and a bit more quality or firepower beside him might have helped make it even more of a contest.

Hearts are just a few levels above us unfortunately. Shankland and Gordon especially (get them on the plane to the Euros) but Grant, Niewuenhoff and Vargas also really impressed. Assuming we don’t draw the Old Firm next season we won’t play a team as good as that for a while.

Brilliant to see the stadium so full and it have that big cup game/occasion atmosphere for the first time in a while. Hopefully the club made a decent chunk from the tie and hopefully we’ll get a few more nights like that over the next couple of seasons.

The quality up front has been a real issue for us this season. Yes we aren't conceding many, but we aren't scoring many - a combination of our players performances, lack of service and up against better defences compared to last season:-

McGill was struggling before and out with injury, Gallagher again not scoring as before and again out injured, Todorov disappointing before Christmas and not really getting a run of games but to be fair has done well since the turn of the year, McGregor's got pace but could do with a bit more of a consistent support alongside him up front.

Mason has excelled since the turn of the year, week in week out he is causing defences problems down the wings but we need more of a presence in the box when his ball comes over.

Great to see the stadium well filled yesterday, plenty of returning and new faces, hopefully the result won't put them off from coming back and they will see the performance was there.

  6. Well at least we didn't disgrace ourselves, quickly 3 down and I thought we were in big trouble. Had a few chances and Mason to his credit was causing them  problems down the wing the first half. Looked more composed in the 2nd half and despite aiming to limit the damage we were still going forward.

Ultimately outclassed by one of the top sides in the country but we tried and didn't "park the bus".

Hope you good Hearts people are looking forward to the game like ourselves,  hopefully Police Scotland don't make this a bit of a chore,  no parking in stadium complex or surrounding roads,  When this happens it is guaranteed that pockets of trouble will break out, with no old bill in attendance obviously..   Have you been informed of the Police enforcing the "Thistle law". keeping supporters behind after the game until Home supporters can be dispersed,  (knowing our luck they will keep the 2.5 k Airdrie supporters back)..

Should be a decent occasion,   do any of you guys remember the last time you played Airdrie at the Excelsior (one time)

    .

Must be around 3k + for us now, as out of the 3700 main stand it looks as if there's only about 300 odd total left across all sections plus ruling out block A (c. 250).

Can I also add to the ridiculous complaints:

Fans saying it's disgraceful that they have to sit about 15 seats to the side of where they normally sit due to the middle section being for hospitality. What a hardship indeed...

Fans commenting about 'glory hunters' turning up for the big games.

And my favourite, complaining that there will be 'No parking' cones on the surrounding streets meaning they'll either have to walk a bit further or get the bus/train.

That's not to mention complaints about tickets prices, the venue for the Challenge Cup Final and numerous other bizarre things.

We've been hopeless for years playing in front of tiny crowds, now we have a decent side, fans returning, playing big sides in the cup and have reached a cup final and yet 5 mins of looking online and you'd think there is a sizable portion of fans who'd prefer to go back to the days of playing in front of 700 fans and losing to Albion Rovers just so they could sit in their own seat and not be inconvenienced by any of the things that come with being a reasonably succesful football club.

"Glory Hunters" - you have to laugh at that, totally clueless as to how we are as a club. Until we fill our stadium with fans every home game (or even the main stand at the least!), cope with ever increasing overheads including sky high electricity bills etc... then we are in absolutely no position to pick and choose who dare pay the club £25 to come to a game. Their money is as good as anyone's so roll up I say. Clueless.

Anyone going to go to the 1924 centenary dinner? My dad and I probably will. But £100 a ticket and not in Airdrie, on a working Sunday night? Not ideal, better be bloody good!

I think the main reason it is being held at the Westerwood is because of limitations on capacity at any venue in Airdrie? There isn't a lot of options in the town for the numbers they are probably expecting and what they want to do.

  10. Telling you what you already know, but to get chucked out of Broadwood was poor...you need to get a permanent home in Glasgow to start building your fan base as soon as you can. Why would I come and watch Clyde playing in Hamilton when I can go and watch Hamilton, better club playing in a higher league?

Your board must be clueless the number of managers you have gone through, but you currently have a manager who will give it his best shot. I think the danger is you could run out of games and you need to get on a run very soon. Funnily enough if you get EK in the play off I think you could get past them, goalfest Brechin might be more difficult. If you went down I'm not so sure you would find it as difficult as the others have done (Albion Rovers, ES, Cowden and Berwick) - just a gut feeling.

Would imagine the North stand would be available if numbers merited it,   The frustrating thing is the main stand will probably be half empty holds just under 4k,    Airdrie at a push IMO will sell 2k which is a decent number for ourselves as you say kick off time and BBC game will be shown in the attendance unfortunately..

Is the Main Stand not 3300, the East 2900, South and North 1900 each? Agree that with 1700 home fans v St Johnstone then we'll do well to get 2k given time and on tv.

    Feeling positive

We have to appreciate the talent we have at present. I think Hancock has been an absolute standout this season and is quickly becoming a favourite player of mine.

Buzzing for Ballantyne to come back as I think he’s our best player in all honesty. I suppose him being injured has kept him off the radar this season thankfully.

Telfer also excellent this season. Strange but this seems to be his level. Think league one was too scrappy for him.

Hancock can still get caught out at the back, as was seen on Saturday (twice, one leading to Thistle's goal), but since December/turn of the year he has come on (literally) leaps and bounds - his running with the ball down the wings and crosses into the box...superb! Defenders are struggling to cope with him and you can just imagine opposition managers shaking their heads at half time on how they are going to keep him at bay in the 2nd half!

Charlie Telfer and Craig Watson look totally comfortable playing in this league, really pleasing to see them do well.

What is the split of the gate,  it isn't 50.50 ,  it is not something like 45 home, 35 visitor and the rest goes to SFA..    it's not as simple as it seems,   to be honest I am glad the club are trying to maximise revenue streams,   I see Hospitality is in the Rowan suite,  how many does that hold,  it seems pretty well priced .

    Rowan Suite holds 150.

My understanding is that the SFA take the first 5% of admissions, the host club (us) then take 20% of receipts then the remainder is split 50/50 between the host and visiting club. The host club is liable for all expenses (hence the initial 20% to help to cover that).

So on a crowd of 7000 our gross income would be based on c. 4000 tickets (after SFA and Hearts cut), so around £100k + tv money less overheads/costs to host.

Makes me so proud that they haven't forgotten about us 🤣

Total joke of a thread, digging up about Johnny Martin 40 years later, clueless as to Airdrie's circumstances  - conveniently forgetting about the votes in favour of Gretna prior to our taking over of Clydebank (conveniently forgetting they were £180k in debt and in administration), not seeing the irony and funny side of the Trump flag, claiming more racism by the fans (facts please?) etc...etc..

  15. Good draw, Hearts will be difficult and harder than St Johnstone, but it's a cup game so...!!

We'll have the main stand (probably around 2500), they'll be given the East Stand of course and Petersburn Road so they'll probably bring at least 4500. Earlier prediction of 7k not far off I reckon. Not a massive payday as after the SFA 's cut we'll only get half the gate, so averaging out at £20 a ticket £70k less cost of policing, stewarding etc... Still, money in for the club.

  16. The Edinburgh Evening News are seemingly reporting that Megwa "has returned from his loan spell at Airdrieonians and is keen to make an impact." 🙄

Edit to add the full article from yesterday afternoon alludes to the Hibs manager being undecided and weighing up his options, Megwa is interviewed by the paper and he says will just have to wait and see what happens, so sounds as if it's still all up in the air.
