Don’t know why more managers don’t do it. There’s no way you can a good view from the touchline.

    Totally agree.

Did Walter Smith not do similar and leave the shouting and balling to his assistant (McCoist)?

I would imagine sitting up in the stands would give a better view to make any tactical tweaks at half time.

I know the whole scotland squad were gash last night but does anyone else think mulgrew was incredibly gash.

A central defender who cant do contact defending and who thinks he's some beckenbaueresqe ball playing centre back cause he takes 4 or 5 touches before lumping it aimlessly up the pitch.

I also cant trust a centre back in his mid 30s with a hairband.

I get the "controversial" take on Doolan and it's not something I'm wildly out of sync with but if you're a Thistle fan then unless you're over 50 (i.e. seen Mo Johnstone play for us) you probably haven't seen a better striker signed permanently for us.

Would take Doolan above Grady, Roberts,  Burns and Britton. Lyle Taylor was / is  better than Doolan but he was never our own player.

I am not over 30, never mind 50!

But i think it kind of sums up my thinking on him. Best weve had since ive been a fan but imo he is a good striker considered great because we've not really had any genuinely great strikers for decades.

Club legends are rarely brilliant players, when you do get a particularly good player they are usually gone onto bigger things well before they can gain that status.

Being a 7/10 player who puts in the occasional superb game is about what you need. Good enough to get fans to love you, managers to keep you but not too good that bigger clubs will come in.

    Totally agree.

I'd class Doolan in the average to fairly good striker category who once or twice a season would go on superb runs of scoring, rather a great striker who would have a few barren runs each year.

    Still some boy though.

    That's clearly bollocks.

McTominay. McGinn. McGregor. McLean. Fleck. Christie. Armstrong.

There you go...7 players that are better CMs than Ryan Jack. Each playing at a higher level than him, or at least playing to a better standard at the same level in the case of McGregor and Christie.

    So clearly not bollocks.

Just as well you're not Scotland manager then!

Jack's having a terrific season both in the league and in Europe and, given our defensive frailties, would have him playing in front of the back 4 vs Russia.

Jack might be having a good season with Rangers but he's about our 8th best CM right now.

Would be shocked if he plays against Russia and theres shouldn't really be much need for him against San Marino.

  7. The defenders we are going to be facing against San Marino are significantly worse than defenders in the Scottish Championship.

So, in theory, assuming he won't feature against Russia, Shankland has been selected to play against inferior opposition yet with far better quality teammates to provide service to him.

If a chance falls to any of our currently fit strikers in the box, I'd far rather have the chance fall to Shankland rather than Brophy, McBurnie, Phillips, Russell, Burke or any of the other options we have available.

Armstrong is the most alarming omission. I would have him starting every game possible for Scotland, as he has an intelligence and driving run that no one else offers. We’re definitely much weaker without him.

I agree that he offers something different but im not sure I would have him as a starter ahead of McTominay, McGinn, McGregor, Christie, McLean or even Fleck based on current form.

For me, he's a very good squad player and I'd certainly have him there, probably in place of Johnny Russell.

My reading of this is that your cutoff for Scotland squad consideration is any full time footballer, is that correct?

My cut off for Scotland squad consideration is anyone who is, or potentially is, in the top 2 or 3 players in each position eligible for Scotland that are fit to play.

Shankland absolutely falls in to this category, at least the potentially part, at this time. Especially since we are playing at home to San fucking Marino.

  10. Hold on, are there people seriously upset that a guy who has scored 49 goals in 53 games is in the squad because he happens to play in the Championship?

Ross County and Livi (and sadly Thistle) have proven over the past couple of seasons that the difference between the bottom end of the Premiership and the Championship is minimal.

Shankland has been phenomenal for two and a half years and would walk into any team in the top league barring two or three sides.

As for as the hopefully tongue in cheek suggestions of Nathan Austin because "where do you draw the line?". Preferably at the point you are deemed that shite you have to drop out of professional football and work as a labourer.

  11. Couldnt care less if Shankland plays in the Championship, if he is better than options playing in higher leagues then it is a no brainer for me.

FWIW I thought McBurnie was excellent for Sheff Utd against Liverpool, but as more of a hard working nuisance rather than main target man type striker. I think he'd be good in a front two and hope he gets that chance against San Marino.

No idea how Devlin can be in the squad ahead of Liam Lindsay or someone in form like Declan Gallagher.

You clearly have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

You talk about concerns, but none of them expressed on here make any sense. Weir bringing Low back in as chairman? What are you talking about?

And if you're going to tell someone not to be patronising, don't start off by telling them to calm down.

Which concerns don't make any sense?

Is it the concerns over Goodwin being involved, despite a history of talking a good game while at the same time demonstrating utter ineptitude?
Is it the concerns over TfL's lack of transparency and seeming refusal to answer questions raised by fans?
Is it the concerns over the divisions that have developed within the Thistle support over the past couple of years that means some feel fan ownership wouldn't be the best thing for Thistle at this time until everyone is more together?

These are just some of the genuine concerns that TfL have, so far, failed spectacularly in abating. To refuse to even acknowledge the validity of these concerns is utter arrogance.

Although he has his faults, I have faith that David Beattie will do what is best for the club in the long term.

Fortunately we don't have that idea, which is why several players younger than that have been called up having played far fewer senior games. Andy Robertson had just turned 20 and was halfway through his first top flight season when he made his debut. Scott McTominay is 22 and has 11 caps - he had started 13 games for Man Utd.

Even in the last year or so we've had six players who have reached double figures in caps whilst aged 24 or under (Robertson, Tierney, McKenna, Paterson, McGinn, McTominay).

Only having six players having played 10 or more games at 24 is a shocking stat. Some players are reaching their peak by that point. We should have double that with the amount of caps by that age.

As long as they are good enough, we should have players in the squad at 19, 20 getting games here and there to gain experience so by the time they get to 22, 23 they can really kick on.

McGinn, McGregor, Fraser, Souttar, Griffiths should all have way more caps than they currently have, and a lot of that is to do with managers not trusting them until they are much older. We should start having more faith in our youth players, thats the point im making.

Where is the harm in getting players like Gilmour, Mikey Johnson, Hornby or one of the younger keepers involved against a team like San Marino?
