Shame to see Ballantyne leave. He had a pretty poor start to his time at Airdrie (three red cards in nine games!) but since the last quarter of that season he’s been very good since then. I wonder if he’s off to Partick Thistle? They need a right back with McMillan likely away and would be a step up.

Another position to replace for us but we managed to sign a better right back on loan last season, albeit getting another Megwa is unlikely!

See my post a couple back regarding finances,  which is likely to be the cause of him not resigning,  remember the reason we made the money this year was due to having good players thus winning games  which leads to increased crowds etc..

Vice Captain as well so would be one of the higher earners you would think,   that's us lost Fordyce, Ballantyne,  Gallagher and McGill with still no word on Rae, Telfer and Frizzell. .....

This spreadsheet from SPFL mediawatch on X shows just how important it is that we get it right, a massive increase in prize money for the season just past and I believe there’s even more up for grabs this coming season. It’s been mentioned previously that we have a pay structure etc which is fair enough but that must evolve as we evolve as a club if we want to continue our upwards trajectory.

This is the league we have been crying out to be in for years,  The money is decent, the football is real,  we must stay there,  I still get the impression of a 'safety first' mentality ,

I believe we still have a very strict (limited) wage structure,  which is understandable to an extent,   last season we spunked wages on Cassidy, Gillespie, Fellows, Kavanagh, Spalding all young players probably on a low wage that contributed nothing, that's probably the guts of 1.5k combined a week,    Hopefully that will be put back into the increased budget and get our playmakers signed up Frizzell and Telfer are pivotal to our side are they replaceable they shouldn't need to be, given a competitive championship wages or increased security.

Airdrie aways seem to be slow in the close season, plenty going on behind the scenes of course,  Pre season starts in a fortnight,  12 signed already probably start with a squad of 20 with the possibility of increasing it by end of sept..

What is a competitive championship wage this season 800 a week..

Can we moan about this signing ...

On paper looks an ideal replacement for Fordyce,   experienced left sided centre half who is out of his teens,   Irish football where does it rate compared to Championship,

Hopefully more to come,  noticed on a Hibs tweet Aiken is coming back,  hopefully the lad Armstrong from Spartans is still on the cards he is a good player so I hear..

Literally nothing in that announcement that couldn't have been made 3 weeks ago. Which suggests they were hoping to have Frizz, Telfer etc tied up before making the announcement rather than alert everyone to the fact they are having to haggle with them, but it's dragged on a bit and they realised they couldn't wait any longer.

Pay them the going rate, they are proven players and we need them,  if we don't I will guarantee you Ian Murray will..

Obviously Megwa was by far the standout loanee and would love to have him back if possible, but I’d like Lyall back too. Lots of ability and suits our style. Out of contract at Rangers and I wouldn’t be surprised if he signed for us.

Agree totally,  only issue for Lyall may be wages,  his Rangers wage would be much higher than we could afford..

No mention of ATS or Hutts yet either,   ATS is currently the only qualified coach at the club if indeed he is still there..

Sad to see Gabby go, he seems like a great guy and seemed to genuinely enjoy his time here. When I ran on the park at Hamilton the first thing I did was hug him as he was staggering about in a daze bawling his eyes out. He scored plenty of big goals, most notably that late equaliser at Hamilton, but I imagine he was one of our highest earners and given his constant injury issues it might be the right time to move on.

Happy with everyone signed up but hopefully some more news on Telfer, Frizzell, Ballantyne etc in the next week or so.

I don't know if Gabby not being offered a deal is for logistical reasons or performance?,   sad to see the lad go , his inconsistency was his consistency,  he really came onto a game at the money time of the season,  and showed guts in the Thistle game with his shoulder out,  he will be a modern day cult hero..

The rest aye ok,  free up a few wages. ( How did Dunlop get an extension ?)

We need some of our big hitters to resign,  Frizz, Telfer, Ballantyne not sure what's happening with Rae...

Does fordyce play as a Right CH or a left CH? Because we’re close to signing Stevenson who’s plays left and also got Euan Murray who is a left sided CH I’m just wondering that’s all

Can play either side,  he is predominantly right footed, but I always thought he was better at left sided CH,   good player,  his main faults are he is very quiet on the park and can be caught for pace.

I think it depends who else comes in and who is retained, 2-3 youngsters to develop is fine if you also bring in 2-3 experienced players to replace those who leave and then 2-3 loans on top of that.

As you say it all depends on who comes in,  if we don't resign Telfer, Frizz etc due to them wanting competitive championship wages( don't get excited it's only hypothetical FFS(. Does that now make McMaster and Gallagher your experienced players in the side. ??

To be honest we don't really know anything yet,  reserve side,  under 19s., players retained,  released....

As supporters we can only comment on facts that are released by the club and make assumptions,  that's what makes football forums what they are,

Regarding the negative talk from fans of northern clubs regarding the new striker, just cast your minds back to when we signed Gal and Frizz from Dumbarton (Frizz was on loan), the Dumbarton fans were very critical of both, likewise ATS and Telfer from Falkirk, who were criticised by the Falkirk fans. All turned out to contribute well for the team. McCabe and the coaching staff have a very good record of improving players. I think that is what McCabe is hoping for.

Clutching at straws a little bit , the players mentioned came from teams in the same league or one below

The players signed have came from playing in the Lowland League and Highland League that a massive gulf to the Championship,

In the league Gabby played more than 70 minutes 11 times last season and managed the full 90 3 times. I like him a lot as a player and a fully fit Gabby is great for this level. But him leaving would be felt less keenly than others let's be honest.

I like Gabby he really came onto a game at the end of last season and he found a first touch from somewhere,   he was rumoured to be touch and go if he signed or not last season,  apparently got a decent deal to stay,   i can see no reason why decent deals are not getting offered  this season are the season we have of quadrupling our prize money..

I heard last week that this was in the offing and spoke to a Formartine season ticket holder who was astounded that he was going to a championship club. Another colleague who knows him well, said that he had a growth spurt when he was 16ish and started banging in the goals in the Highland league where Aberdeen bought him from Turriff a couple of years after they released him. Apparently decent in the air and no slouch either but lacking in awareness but obviously Rhys sees something to work on.  You never know but I wouldn't imagine he'll be starting many games.

    You heard anything else,

The day has come for us to say goodbye.

These past 5 seasons have been a blast, full of good times, bad times and shite times. But now we set off to enjoy some time with our fellow PT teams at the seaside.

I am sorry to say our replacement in this league will be Falkirk. Good luck

It fine you can stay on this forum,   if it keeps those tedious Falkirk c***s off the championship forum...

Good luck in the seaside league,  we will meet again

No harm to the lad but Macdonald doesn’t look good enough defensively for me. Can go forward well and him and Robertson did terrorise most teams in that league but I’m not convinced from the games I’ve saw of him he can cope defensively with the step up.

Again rumours flying around of Airdrie losing more players so until the club tell the fans what’s happening it’s all a bit anxiety ridden for us. After the best season in decades I don’t ever want to sound critical but nothing on players, strips, season tickets, friendlies. Every season it’s so frustrating to seemingly be way behind other clubs

I expect us to struggle to attract “established” names but right now I can’t help but feel this is going to be a long tough few weeks till the season is underway. Arbroath after almost going up to the top flight finished 8th then 10th. Queens Park after almost going up in their 1st season saw them avoid the relegation playoff on the last day this season. I am not criticising the club and I know it’s a pessimistic view but they need to be spending some of the money they made last season and pushing the boat out to retain the guys we have. That to me is far more important than rumours of who’s coming in.

It’s a harsh reality of how quick things can change.

    Great post,  totally agree,

I’ve seen Armstrong play before and thought he was decent so happy with that, it’s a big step up but I think he’ll fit into our style of play well. No idea about MacDonald but as others have said, getting Megwa back was always unlikely so if we go into the season with Ballantyne as first choice and Watson and MacDonald as cover then I’m fine with that.

They’re not the most exciting signings but have to trust McCabe’s ability to develop players and a few players like this to supplement the squad is good.

I know Thistle were in for Armstrong never seen the lad play personally,    it's all hearsay at the moment but I sincerely hope we are not signing these lads to replace the likes of Ballantyne and Telfer,  this would be the cheap option,  it would be a very HIGH RISK policy and after the season of our lives we just had,  you would hope to push on and keep your better players..

The lack of information coming from the club regarding players is very poor and us bored fans have to much time on keyboards...
