Enjoyed the podcast . Surprised the last minute winner that Simon lynch scored there (08/09) wasnt mentioned . Think it relegated Clyde and ensured thistle couldn’t win the league . Big hint of offside too. Very pleasing

I had forgotten about that game, we were in danger of going down  as well,  remember the celebrations well when Lynch scored that day......

My personal favourite was a midweek League Cup tie at the start of the ill fated Archibald era, when the newly recruited Spanish Armada took on the Partick,  San Juan was pinging balls about that park as if it was game of fifa,   Big crowd plenty singing and a late penalty winner by Austin McCann.

No, I've got plenty of taps - kitchen, scullery, bathrooms and one outside for my hosepipe. Thanks, though.

Anyhoo, you may have heard of the global pandemic? With no spectators, it has been speculated that many clubs might not survive. Airdrie Onions is a club I've always liked.

I think we are in the same position as most clubs,    good loyal sponsors,  directors plugging financial holes,   trying there best to bring money in with the streaming service, New merchandisec etc,  in saying that it only goes so far...    Not much else they can do just now,    Trying not too look to far ahead,

I think most clubs will find a way to keep going, a lot will depend on relative success of the team,  it will be tough for teams struggling at the bottom of the league's motivationally wise as well as the other issues during the winter months,  which could then force decisions to be made...

Delighted with that. I didn’t think there was too much in it until the first goal, though Airdrie probably looked a bit more likely to score, but after that I thought we controlled the game and ended up fairly comfortable winners. It was a fairly typical Airdrie win under Ian Murray, a good solid team performance and I never felt like we were going to concede. I’ll happily take that every week!

Crighton and Fordyce were excellent and managed Layne well. I thought Scott Brown had a good game for Peterhead but Kerr and Sabatini stopped him from being too involved and even Alan Cook was fairly quiet and didn’t get his usual goal against us. Certainly a lot of positives to take going into a tough game next week.

Agree,  ithought Gallagher played the lone striker well, hold up play and first touch was excellent,   we have the ability to outplay teams in midfield,  with Stokes in there, if he starts in place of McKay or Thomson,   for a change we have options in the side, does anybody know if T histle provide steaming for away fans or is it worth a trip to watch it from the canal bank,  can only see half the pitch that way though,  suppose we are getting  used to that 😉😁

I am not criticising the posters on FB and share much of the down beat stuff , it's just that I am an incurable optimist. I think you are right that we don't look much better than last season. It's hard to judge TV stuff but Stenny lacked a cutting edge as well.  Peterhead will be a real challenge

We are a defensive side, and actually seem more so than last season even with our improved attacking options,   We look a side that one goal would beat us,   we need to attack this league if we want out it,   just too many project players in the team for my liking who will consistency throughout the season....   I don't think the bookies will be far off either,  hopefully we have enough for a playoff,

Encouraged by that performance. I think Greg Docherty was the last time we had a midfielder like Sabatinni; a massive upgrade on Miller. Great pressing also. Room for improvement but a good start

Not convinced , I thought we were completely toothless up front and in wide areas,  not really a surprise,   goalscoring will be a major problem this season...

Certainly a lot to be happy about with how pre-season has went, though I’m not getting carried away.  It’s hard to argue with the team that started today based on performances across pre-season.

I thought we looked really solid defensively today. To be honest, other than the opening 20 minutes or so in the first Albion Rovers game we haven’t been too troubled defensively so far. Both Currie and Hutton seem solid but neither have had a great deal to do given how well the defence have done. I’m really pleased we have the same defence as last year with Currie behind them, it gives us a great foundation to build on.

Josh Kerr has probably been one of our best players over all the games and has probably made himself our first choice defensive midfielder. Kerr and Sabatini seem to have a decent understanding already and they’re much better on the ball than any midfield pairing we’ve had for a while. I’m not convinced we’ll see many goals from them but they look like a solid partnership.

Ally Roy’s on an excellent run and definitely deserves to start over Gallagher, which is something I definitely didn’t expect to be saying! He seems a lot more confident than he did last season so hopefully he can keep his scoring run going.

I think the only real question mark for the start of the season is the three behind Roy. Carrick’s a nailed on starter for me but the other two positions are definitely up for debate. Stokes and Robert have had some good moments so far but both seem to drift in and out of games, while I think I prefer Thomson to O’Reilly so far there’s not too much between them.

Good competitive game with the performance ramped up,      Kerr and Sabatini seem a good partnership, but rarely ahead of the ball,  would McKay and Kerr be a better duo with goals at the moment in short supply,   Definitely need more options up front,  If not we will struggle,   although we have 5 !oans we can take it need be,    Trialist midfielder seemed competent. Any names flying about....

I've got a feeling today will be our toughest test. Yes, Queen's are a league above but I genuinely think QP have bags more quality than that cobbled together queen's team. I really hope Murray puts the strongest (or his opinion of) 11 on the park for the first half and see how they go, then in the second half give minutes to everyone else. It'll be interesting to see this QP team imo as I'm expecting big things from them this season.

It will be unusual to see a Queens team with so much quality,   League 1 is probably the best league competitive wise just now,  Queens and the Lowland League will probably be joining in the next 2 to 3 years,   Unless we can get out the league this year, we may have to rely on reconstruction it is getting more difficult year on year.  Not being negative just realistic...

Onto the game we have to ramp our performance up a good 30%,  I feel we have sleepwalked our way through preseason,  patches of good play, flashes of talent,  but every game we struggled to get shots away, create chances  etc,  hopefully today he gives his starting 11 and hour at least before the merry go round of the subs start....

Yes last season is in the history books. But it's still the best form count we have and it's not a bad one. We have a stronger squad this season too, or don't you agree? Also this season hasn't even started and you're already condemning us to fail. Why? Because of preseason friendly results and performances? Mental.

Yes I do think we have strengthened in defensive cover and across the midfield, still way short up front, which the club is aware of...

If you want to go down that road, we kept a clean sheet against a team in the league above in the only game where we played our strongest back 4.regardless of how they're expected to fare this season, they're still in the league above. We also never lost a game whilst experimenting heavily and making wholesale changes at half time in all games. Purely a fitness exercise.

........  Maybe I am old skool in that every game is there to be won and breeds a winning g mentality in a young squad....

I reckon the cup games will see us try out a more settled line up, but I don't really care how we do in those either. It's the league that really matters

You won't change your mind and neither will I. Let's just wait and see how the league starts

Looking forward to the Queens Park game a team from a lower division, who appear to have signed a team of championship players.....    Would like to think we would play our strongest team for the majority of this game,   hopefully a win and a performance that I can Happy Clap from the comfort of my armchair......  Onwards and upwards

Yes I do think top 4 minimum. Did we not achieve that last season, whilst still being in with a shout of winning the league? I expect we will achieve top 4 again this season.  So for me, it's not a case of the jury being out. Don't think it is either for you though as you already seem convinced we will fail by saying Falkirk and Thistle will be well clear by Christmas. Before a competitive ball has even been kicked. Optimism at its best.

Optimism or realism....  My main disappointment is with the recent  performances in pre season,  scores are irrelevant,   we hardly created a chance against queens and the Rovers,   queens are favourites for the drop and to be honest I am sure Rovers fans would bite your hand off to stay in their league this season.....

Jury is well and truly out this season....   Last season is in the history books....

Is it? Really? Maybe for you but not for me.

Do you not think top 4 minimum in a 10 team league in the third tier of Scottish Football after spending 2 years building your own team ...  I don't think there are excuses for fai!ure this season ,    maybe as a support we have lost our expectation and drive for success after numerous years of shiteness....

In my own opinion i think we will be fighting for 3 , 4 ,5 th place this season with Tbistle and Falkirk sailing off into the sunset at New year..... The bookies may be right are they ever wrong at this level...

I really hope this is the case. I think with Currie we've got an improvement on last season, and our defence is virtually the same as last season so not much to worry about there. I'm maybe jumping the gun and others may disagree but I feel like our most used midfielders this pre-season (Kerr, Sabatini, McKay, Stokes) look better than our most used midfielders last season (Wedderburn, Millar, McKay, Roberts) so hopefully that's an improvement. Definitely got a lot more options to play in wide areas this time around but I think we may still be missing something up front. As things stand I think Callum Smith would start in our best eleven if we still had him, so that's definitely an area that needs looked at for me.

We definitely need a competent striker, but what has been obvious over the 3 games is the lack of support in the opposition penalty box, we rarely have more than 2 players in potential goalscoring positions in the box,  consistently rovers and even queens had 4 or 5 players hunting a goal,   This is purely down to the setup,   Kerr is a fine player and will probably end up at livvy or the well in the near future,  do we need a solely defensive midfielder in league 1  ??,   This formation may well work in the championship, but we somehow need to get there first.....   Personally not been impressed with the 90 min performances over the preseason games,  although some players have stood out. Kerr, Sabatini and Stokes although I don't think you can play all 3 in the same midfield, unless we play a strict 4 5 1,  which as I said before will not get you enough goals to get out this league....

Things could look very different a month from now if the "second wave" has peaked and has clearly started to decline, so it's better to put things in a holding pattern for a bit.

At last a,sensible post,  the problem since March is everyone wants to make quick snap decisions,  let it play out and everyone stop panicking ffs....

  13. Ok it's decision time for the team selection the 3 positions and players may be still to be decided.

    GK.......Hutton or Currie

    Hutton  steady keeper

    Mid......  Kerr or McKay

Kerr. Although McKay is always a goal threat unlike Kerr

    Striker......  Roy or Gallagher

Gallagher our most consistent scorer,  ideally would like another option

    Thoughts folks.....
