  1. The Ballantyne one is interesting, and I always fear I'm one step from just joining the FB "banter" page and demanding Craig Thomson get a run of games when it comes to forcing young players into the team.

But You have to wonder how we actually benefit from keeping Crawford over him in Janaury. Crawford is a nice footballer if he's given time and space, but ultimately that's rare in this league, plus as soon as any remaining pace leaves him then he's finished at this level. Also take into account that he's 30 years old and has a big history of injuries, it's safe to assume if we do sigh him to a two-year deal then we're certainly not selling him for a fee at any point, and he'll be on a decent first-team wage.

Ballantyne might never be good enough, but I can't see him as being any worse, he's cheaper, he's a youth player so he'll automatically get more goodwill from the crowd and generate positive feeling. Worst case scenario he's just a cheaper version of Crawford and he leaves for nothing and we're in the same position with having to replace him with no fee incoming, but he could blossom, be another promising player we've produced and bulletproof can sell him for 20k and 400% of the next transfer fee providing he's sold to a club outwith the planet Earth.

I don't want to sack him, he's a good manager, but his blinkered stubbornness is frustrating as f**k.  He did it for half of last season and it eventually came good, but even when we were struggling you saw a shape and method.  Not so this time.

Personally, I'd love to hear an honest and open interview with Brown and Davidson questioned.  Not to have a go, I'm just fascinated at what the thought process was coming into the season.

It would be good for the fans but there's no chance that bulletproof's ego would allow it

I don’t view Davidson as a bad manager. He got a formation that worked well with us. But it does feel like we need to go back to basics.

The issue though? How much do you go fucking about with that during a potential relegation battle?

This season I'm starting to become convinced that the cup wins were a direct result of having no fans in the stadium, it allowed the players to carry out a largely negative style without pressure from crowds and it allowed opposing teams to lose all of their energy and momentum because there was nothing there to gee them up when they needed a lift

    Is that good or bad...

We've not averaged over 3 passes per possession in any of the last 6 seasons, and are actually higher this season than a couple of TW ones.

Less ball losses than last season too.

% of shots on target up this season.

You can dress that last one up however you like, we're 11th in total shots and 12th in total shots on target so it's still absolutely rotten, regardless of percentages

  5. Had an interesting chat with a player (a defender) who played against us very recently and he admitted it was a weird game because it wasn't like we were even trying to score.

opposing teams know this, and that is precisely why we're losing games, they know they can just be patient and control the game without any worries at the back end, and eventually that pressure is going to give, or at the very worst it will end 0-0

We’ve offered that Dundalk boy a “very good offer.”

I mean, it would be a surprise if anyone came out and said "well we've made him an offer slightly below the going market rate"

I also fear we make everyone who leaves or doesn't sign a "very good offer", but if he signs, do we reckon one of the backups (ambrose, Dendoncker,Muller) might be gone?

  7. I'm torn on the whole creativity thing, we certainly do lack it, but I still maintain they don't have anything to hit in front of them.

Chris Kane can hunt down a loose pass or tries to win things in the air, but he actively hides when we break forward and drops into a position between a defender and a midfielder, Stevie May always wants to drop short, I'm not seen enough of Eetu but he looks like a similar kind of player, Wotherspoon isn't one to break in behind, neither is MOH who always wants it to feet. Middleton is the only one I've seen occasionally try to make a run between a full back and a centre back, but I've said it multiple times before, we're so easy to play against, just press us high with a high line and there's no way we'll get in behind, the only tactic we have is Kane trying to win free kicks at the half way line and then pumping a long ball into the box.

We could have a midfield of Pirlo, Guti and Riquelme in their prime, they still would still struggle with the absolute refusal of any forward to find space or run in behind

One of my big concerns is that we’re getting not much going forward out of Rooney this season - and quite often it looks like he’s not keen on running at his full back or going beyond them. Which almost makes it look like he’s been told not to because you’d think that’s his natural instinct. A real lack of attacking intent combined with pretty much all of our attacking players being either injured or massively out of form is a disastrous combination. A change has to come and now is the time.

This is one of the main things I've been trying to figure out, is it a total lack of confidence, on CD for just being uber-defensively focussed and restricting the players or something else? Obviously a different level but I remember something about Louis van Gaal at Man United and players moaning that he was just so rigid in his instructions and defensive drilling that it just took over and they didn't know how to attack once the basic plan was figured out by the opposition.

That would make sense from that Livi game at home where literally all we had was a giant switch out to MOH, and when that didn't work, we just kept trying it over and over. Something needs to change in the manager's methods to free us up going forward, but the interview he gave last night where he somehow thought Hibs didn't deserve to win makes me fear he'll stick to it even more rigidly than ever.

In some ways I won't even be surprised if we shitfest a couple of 1-0s over Dundee and County, we might even end up in the top six conversation on paper at xmas if we get lucky, but it can't go on like this either way
