  1. I was just looking at the draw and reflecting on how things have changed, so your observation is valid.
  2. Of the 20 teams in this year's 3rd Qualifying Round, by my counting, 5 teams have accumulated 9 Champions League / European Cups between them. Of the 26 automatic Group Stage Qualifiers, if you take eight of them away, the rest have one such trophy between them.
  3. Apologies - been abroad for many weeks. I see answers were posted further down, in any case.
  4. Thanks for trimming it of all the bits with which you had trouble. Confirms it hit the spot. Meanwhile, Alfie's stock is presumably rising by the day....
  5. Well that seemed to upset you! Please accept my apologies - especially as it's Sunday. You travelled ( customarily taking two 'l' s, unless you're a US citizen, incidentally - I believe you enjoy a reputation on here for pedantry in all things grammatical and etymological, so I wouldn't want you to make the error again ) extensively in Europe without a passport? Unless you were a guest-worker, or part of the British Expeditionary Force or Operation Overlord, I doubt that you travelled for more than 90 days without a visa. Post-Brexit, like US etc citizens, we'll probably be fine for up to 90 days - but with a Schengen Visa. Anyway, back to Alfie......
  6. I've been travelling in Continental Europe ( while I'm still allowed to without a visa ) since the beginning of May. Has Morelos gone for yet? If he's still there, my guess has to be that all bids peaked at only £17, 999, 995, a dismissive £5 below what the lad is actually worth....? Fair play to you fellas for hanging on to him in such insulting circumstances.
  7. Summer Supplement? I tried my best to forgive last week's effort as it seemed aimed, primarily, at setting up the next few weeks. Yesterday's tea-time show, however, was cringe inducing from beginning to end. Rambling, repetitive tripe. Almost had me yearning for Cowan's pish about five songs for a guest. This pairing was once refreshing and entertaining. There is so much to talk about in Scottish football, as shown by the likes of The Terrace lads. Time, I'm afraid, for Stuart and Tam to think again or pack it in. At the very least, half an hour's preparation would help enormously.
  8. Still paying on the karma front for Jordan's hand ball, imo. To get to half time at 0-0 wasn't asking too much, but we never seem to just get to any line we might set. Decent, organised performance. It'd be handy if Burke ever actually controlled the ball or took the right option, mind, but he is ploughing a lone furrow. And Marshall and Taylor might occasionally aim their Howitzers at yellow shirts. These notwithstanding, we have enjoyed as much possession and as many half chances against teams worse than ourselves and gone in a goal down. How about that karma swinging our way for once?
  9. Leighton McGrain ( yup, as right wing back ) Buchan McNeill Miller Robertson Bremner Souness Gemmell ( not a misspell; Tommy ) Dalglish Law
  10. Have now managed to pass them to a former exchange student, who lives in Alpes-Maritime. Fortunately no takers here anyway.
  11. We have decided to continue walking in Northern Spain and no longer intend to use our tickets for Sunday's game. They are e-tickets tickets in our names, but anyone who can genuinely use them is welcome to them. No charge but, as the lucky recipient will have my details, he/she can buy me a pint sometime. PM me if interested
  12. Just by means of a wee add on, when Hearts went a goal up and were still more than holding their own yesterday, the camera panned to the Celtic players not in the squad. Tierney was the only one who actually looked bothered. That's the kind of attitude I want in players who play for my club.
  13. Just skimmed this thread and am struggling to get the special antipathy and opprobrium for which Tierney has been singled out.The ease with which he goes down ( insert KW gif ) is a pain in the arse, certainly. His wee boy love for his club, however, is something we usually applaud in our own. That it's not our club shouldn't really jaundice our take on that. As a poster said earlier, by age 25, he'll probably be a different person, unless I'm missing something and he"s the sort of lad who's considered likely to piss/gamble away his talents, or be spouting plastic Irish rubbish as a grown man. As to his injury and the timing of his operation, I doubt he'll have had a lot of input on the final decision. In any event, it would be less than surprising if he has said he fancies a shot at getting a Scottish Cup Winner"s medal. Really can't see what the fuss is here. I'd like to see him - and all our best young prospects - in as many Scotland squads for the next ten years. If he just isn't interested, then, yes, f**k him - and, as has been noted, Mr. Clarke is the man to get him telt.
  14. No plans yet, but I'll do my best to keep you informed of any developments.
  15. Date for the Diary - 'A Game of 2 Halves'. Celebrating 100 years of Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill Stadium. Seemed like an appropriate juncture to highlight this. Not just for Rovers fans. If you're dropping the weans off at The Time Capsule, heading for Drumpellier Loch or, even more convenient, taking them round Summerlee Heritage Centre, why not drop in? It's free, it runs until October and should be of interest to supporters of any stripe - or quarter, diamond or hoop, for that matter........ A mix of new unseen stills from photographer Iain McLean's social document on the fans and environment of Albion Rovers FC, a superb film called 'We Are Albion' by film-maker Wilma Smith, as well as Wilma's fans sound recordings, unusual football artefacts from long term fans and, get this, the event is being opened by the Kirkintilloch Kelvin Brass Band! The free official opening is on Saturday 6th July at 1pm upstairs in Summerlee Museum, Coatbridge ML5 1QD. Spread the word - copy and paste this on your social media, and we look forward to seeing you there.
  16. Delighted to have given you the opportunity to go for hyperbole. ( How delighted could I be to learn that my post was not just poor, not absolutely awful, no, not even just screamingly bad, but the worst ever? Wow! Praise from Caesar etc ) The utter condemnation leaves me ruined.
  17. Folk who go to The Shed before games at Hampden. Have they not spotted that, for example, Heraghty's, The Allison Arms and even The Glad Cafe are 2 minutes away and not populated by toerags?
  18. People who clap the holder of a winning raffle ticket. Yea, well done : you bought that beautifully!
  19. "He played for Rovers didn’t he?" Aye, he hung about for a season and a bit at the end of his career but rarely made it onto the park.
  20. As you note, Bobby Flavell was born in Annathill, a mining village near Coatbridge of a few hundred inhabitants, that served Bedley pit. Just after WW2, it provided four Scottish internationalists including Flavell. Three played in the same side, Frank Brennan of Airdrie, Newcastle et al, Jock "Tiger" Shaw of Rangers and Airdrie, and his brother Davie. Quite remarkable. In later years, Drew Jarvie, of Airdrie, Aberdeen an St. Mirren, also capped for Scotland, hailed from Annathill too.
