The Famous Aberdeen - Season 2022/23

There's absolutely zero chance of Peter being offered the Barnsley job. Kite-flying nonsense from the Weegie-media. -
Semi Final: Aberdeen vs Celtic
Enrico Pallazzo replied to Melanius Mullarkey's topic in Domestic Cup Football
I come on here to to express how proud I was of The Dons today, despite the defeat, only to find pages and pages of shite about the Irish diaspora in Scotland. I despair sometimes, I really do. Anyhoo, played some nice stuff in the 1st half especially, defended reasonably well for the most part. I've seen the first penalty shout given, definitely a foul in the build-up for the 2nd. Celtic had better quality off the bench, which was where most of our penalty takers were sat after the end of extra time. Credit to Leven on how he set us up, and hopefully Thelin was watching and saw something to build on. Onwards. -

Could be a lot worse. Approach it with the right attitude and we'll be fine. Stroll in with the lazy, half-arsed approach that we've seen in our last 2 league games and we'll be shitting through the eye of a needle in Dingwall on the final day. -
Dandies v those Dastardly Dees

I'd probably still choose Wellington Road, or go all the way to the airport and come in Gt. Northern Road. You pays your money and takes your choice. -

It's important to acknowledge, that in the whole of Scotland on any weekend, a grand total of only 6 matches are officiated with the 'help' of VAR, and civilization as we know it has yet to collapse. It wasn't perfect before, but it's far from perfect now, and with the added effect of sucking all the joy and spontaneity out of the matchday experience. The clubs should have the balls to end this nonsense at the end of the season. -
Motherwell - Aberdeen 16/03/2024

For me, the issue has always been with these contentious VAR reviews, does the player whose hand or arm the ball strikes (or his team) gain an obvious advantage by virtue of it, or not? If the answer is no, then it's not a penalty. -
Aberdeen v St Johnstone 28.2.24

Genuinely dreading tonight. The officials will have been briefed about Warnock saying how we need to be tougher and maybe 'leave a foot in' on occasion. So I expect an early booking for Shinnie, and a 2nd yellow by the 60th minute. So we'll need to be at least 2 goals to the good by then, and that's almost certainly not gonna happen. -

I very much doubt that he'll be back. Christ knows what our recruitment team were smoking the day they scouted him. -

Which is even more wild when you consider 2 of Hibs league wins have come against Aberdeen. Mental. -

The Famous Aberdeen’s European Tour 2023/24

There are lot of players who aren't up to 'match speed' in that lineup. Might stick a few quid on HJK to win by 2+ goals. But having seen a photo of the pitch, I can understand why they wouldn't want to risk too many 1st choice players tonight. -

The most instinctive goalscorer at the club since Arild Stavrum. When we decide to cash in, it shouldn't be for anything less than £10m + sell-on fee. With the recent success of Hickey, Doig, Ferguson & Ramadani moving to Italy from the SPFL, I imagine a number of clubs in Serie A will be keeping tabs on his exploits. -
The Famous Aberdeen’s European Tour 2023/24

A disappointing result, as they were a fairly unremarkable side considering they have been regular participants in the group stages of European competitions recently. A few thoughts from last night: If we are playing 2 up top, they've got to work as a pair. Miovski and Duk are so isolated if / when they receive the ball. Duk tends to drift without a great deal of purpose at times, and there's no 'opposite movement' to lose his marker. When I was coaching I always told my forwards to make 2 runs - 1 for the defender, then one for the pass. We're trying to play killer passes from inside our own half, and it's easy to defend 99% of the time. Maybe our performance analysts identified HJK as playing a high line leaving space in behind to exploit, but I didn't see much evidence of it last night. And there's no denying that Duk is a shadow of the player that finished last season. He's got no confidence when 1 v 1 with the keeper, and last night he just blasted the ball straight at the HJK goalie as hard as he could, rather than looking to drive it low either side or lift it over him. Last season he would have probably done a couple of stepovers then 'rainbow-flicked' it over him before heading it over the line. Both our wing-backs are both considerably more 'back' than 'wing'. We were sitting almost at pitch level about 25 yards from the goal at the Merkland end, so were in line with our defence in the 2nd half, and more often than not McKenzie was the last man out as we pushed up. When Hayes came on, he got out much quicker so his starting position when he got the ball was a good 10 - 15 yards higher, and we were far more progressive as a result. For the love of god, play Clarkson in behind the forward(s) as a No. 10. He looks lost playing from so far back, and it might stop Shinnie from pushing up alongside Miovski trying to make something happen instead of the sitting / holding position he should occupy. If he does that v PAOK we'll get get caught on the break with no protection, as we did v Hacken. Jensen & Gartenmann are 'proper' defenders, and playing alongside them is improving Rubezic's game incrementally. Jensen's head is going to be throbbing this morning though. The stoppages towards the end of the 1st half killed the tempo and the atmosphere, and the start of the 2nd half was so flat from us. If you give even a mediocre team enough of the ball, there's a chance they'll do something with it. Cracking finish to be fair. Despite being no more than 15 - 20 yards from the incident when Duk got elbowed in the head, I didn't see it at all. Is there any video of the incident online? -

Gartenmann & Jensen are as good, if not better, than Pollock & Scales. I'd like to see how Angus MacDonald would get on in a back 3 with them. The midfield looks a bit more balanced, Shinnie seems to be a bit more disciplined in screening the back 3, and not trying to do everything, everywhere, all at once, and crucially we seem to be trying to play 'through the 3rds' and not lumping it long. -
