  1. Makes it less likely that a person will come forward and admit they lied.
  2. Hitting a girl as a small child was a guaranteed spanking for me.
  3. The official left wing narrative is that General Kelly is a racist because he grew up in a segregated Irish neighborhood in Boston. Somebody needs to tell the left that people at that time segregated the Irish away for the same reason that the blacks were segregated away in the South. I think they must be under the impression that the Irish came up with the Boston segregation plan. They must not be aware that General Kelly is a victim of segregation.
  4. Did not go to military school. Mom had a pretty bad temper, but was generally a great mom. My dad was always even keel. He would usually read us stuff from the Bible or from famous figures about the value of discipline before he spanked us. One time my sister jumped out of a closet to try and push me down the steps to our basement. I caught myself on the door, but made a split second decision to let go and fall down the steps. I knew she'd get spanked. Listened and laughed from down the hall as it happened.
  5. Yes. So kids like you with weak parents can get toughened up.
  6. I was spanked in elementary school. They happened on Friday after school. You got to sign the paddle the next Monday. I had to repeat any school punishment at home. I usually preferred a spanking to a long detention once I'd reached a certain amount of demerits in a week. Would usually try and do something extra to earn the spanking. One time I put gum in my little sisters hair right as we were leaving for her kindergarten school talent show for all the parents. I was fairly certain my mother was going to murder me with the paddle, so I moved out of the way. She was swinging so hard that it broke on the toilet which I had been holding onto.
  7. Moved west behind the pioneers. Increased suburbanization this time around, along with some of the best areas of the country experiencing mass emigration of natives. Immigration isn't the only issue. High taxes, green policies, and lack of 360 degree growth potential of most cities act along with immigration to drive up the cost of living for working and middle class families. The role of immigrant voters in allowing these policies to be enacted shouldn't be ignored, in addition to their driving down working class wages, taking up valuable space, and decreasing the value of public services like schools. Of course this is happening at the same time as global capital is flowing into California and fleeing other parts of the country. A nations immigration system should be designed the benefit the people in the country already. If there's a trend of native born people fleeing areas in the face of mass immigration then that should be taken into account.
  8. I read it. What was I supposed to get out of this? I've vaguely heard of this author. Think she might be the type who gets assigned for English class in some high schools, but not mine. I think he was referring to the Weinstein scandal when talking about women. He mentions "this last week" or something like that if I remember correctly. When talking about the Gold Star families, I'm unsure if he was criticizing Trump for firing back at that Muslim family from the Democrat Convention, or if he was criticizing the Democrats for using a Gold Star family to promote a partisan agenda in the first place. The crime rates of Muslims in the UK vs society as a whole would be relevant since he advocated for a Muslim immigration ban in his campaign. I'm not sure what the numbers are over there.
  9. Nah. I'm just telling you my initial reaction. I'm not alone, and I'm probably closer to correct than the initial responses I saw here. At work this morning people several people were going as far to suggest that this was a whole set up. Why would the congresswoman have happened to be there when the call was made? I'm not saying that's my belief, but people are talking. Maybe Trump and Kelly suspect something similar and that's why they haven't apologized. Sometimes race can't be ignored. When you talk about the violence levels in America you have to talk about the role played by black males between 15 and 40. They have to be somewhere around 3-4% of the population. What percent of the murders to they commit? 40%? More? But leftist want to focus entirely on rural gun shows or guns that are heavily stereotyped as "white owned." This isn't an accident. Then your side goes farther off into la la land and suggests that the presence of more black men in prison or other negative situations with law enforcement must be the result of racist justice system practices. It's a position I just don't understand.
  10. I'd suggest watching this whole thing. Very informative, no matter what you think of me or my politics. John Kelly, who lost a son in combat, explains exactly what happens for the family in this event. He says he's the one who told Trump that Obama did not always call families. He said it was a neutral observation and recommended that Trump not call. When Trump decided to call he followed Kelly's advice on what to say. Kelly said that when his son died it helped to hear his best friend say that his son was doing exactly what he wanted to be doing and knew exactly what he was getting into. He says that he's stunned and brokenhearted to hear a member of Congress play politics with a soldiers death. It's flooring the position that Savage Henry is taking after seeing this video. It seems very genuine and moving.
  11. I'm curious what Trump has done so horrendously wrong that his supporters are supposed to turn on him or risk being thrown in the same lot as North Koreans. Did Mr. Danger really pump up George W. Bush's advisors? That might be the funniest thing I've ever seen on this forum. If it only affects a tiny % of the population, why am I supposed to care about the Death Tax? Dubya's speech was a joke. 1. Globalism is a policy choice. It's not inevitable. There are plenty of countries which aren't on board to the extent that the US has been over the past few decades. They remain prosperous, democratic, and plugged into the world economy. It's not like US economic growth and long term fiscal health has gotten better under post-Cold War globalism. 2. Poisoned politics and a rise in extremism is the natural result of large movements of diverse people. It's his policies which have caused this. Your utopian vision is being proved wrong. All you had to do was look at the last wave of mass immigration to the US to see this. Foreigners brought radical ideologies and terrorism / anti-state violence was rampant. Large portions of the American public was forced to flee from their homes to avoid foreigners. Corrupt and ethnic based politics became the norm in large parts of the country. Inequality rose to unprecedented levels. The KKK reached it's height and ugly forms of nativism burst to the front lines of our politics. Some smarter left wingers who gave up on Americans ever buying into their ideas know what is happening, and it's the society they want. I suspect that Bush really believes what he says, same as believing he could turn Iraq into a democratic example for the entire Muslim world.
  12. Trump is clearly an intelligent person. I'm not sure what evidence you have that he has dementia. Just a year ago he was traveling across the country giving hour long speeches day after day and giving constant press interviews. I'm sure if he had dementia we'd be able to tell. It seems like all the other families he talked to have had nice things to say. This includes other families from the same group of soldiers who died and have come out defending his tone on the calls. I agree with you that Trump doesn't seem like the most naturally empathetic person. He's probably very uncomfortable in these types of situations. I'll preface this with saying that I understand what I'm about to say will upset you. Here's what I think. I think this was an instance of white and black people getting their wires crossed on what's an appropriate social interaction. This happens from time to time. It would happen to you if you learned to speak with an American accent and then started interacting with a range of black people. I think that we have a radical racialist congresswoman who considers Trump not just her political enemy, but her racial enemy. I think she knows a significant portion of her constituency believe the same. I think this congresswoman was willing to use a dead soldier to try and score political points.
  13. Didn't mean it to look bad. "They signed up for this" is a common way of saying that somebody like a soldier or firefighter was brave. If Trump did say it to this lady I can't imagine he meant it any other way, and I can't imagine you could take it any other way unless you were trying to be offended. Does anybody really think he called up the pregnant widow of a dead soldier and was rude to her because she's black? It's a laughable opinion to hold.
  14. "They'll tell you they're not heroes. They'll say they were just doing their job. And today we honor them as top cops because they are half right. It's true they were just doing their jobs. From the moment they swore an oath to serve with honor, from the first time they put on a uniform and put on a badge, they knew they might be called upon to do some really tough stuff. But I think that makes them more heroic, not less heroic, because they signed up for this." 15. So you don't have kids outside events selling candy bars for their "football team trip," when everyone knows it's really kids laundering their parents food stamps into cash through bulk candy? Our food stamp program in the US is probably at least half fraud. I can't imagine it's much different in the UK. Specifically regarding immigrants, every immigrant working an under the table job has his family on food stamps. Benefit fraud is one of the massive costs never included in the PC studies which pretend to show that immigration is a net win for the economy.
  16. The NBA has a rule which forces players to stand for the anthem, for what it's worth. When I was a kid Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf of the Denver Nuggets refused to stand. He was suspended and fined.
  17. Legally, they are the same. If the first amendment covers one, as Cerebus says, it covers the other. Of course the first amendment covers neither. There are certain reasons where the law prevents you from being fired. Speech is not one. If your employment contract specifies other reasons you can't be fired, the courts will protect you. The collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and the players union does not protect speech. You are correct that they are different from a moral perspective.
  18. The NFL fines people for writing messages on their cleats or eye black. They famously prevented Tim Tebow from writing John 3:16 on his eye black as he did in college. There is zero first amendment right to use your employers platform to disseminate your speech. Again, if someone held up a "God Hates F***" sign during the national anthem they would be fired immediately. I'm on the side that corporate America should allow offensive speech, but most people aren't. And this includes almost the entire left half of the political spectrum in America. Most people fired for speech at work are fired for speech that would be considered right wing.
  19. I'd say refusing to stand and the Obama Presidency are about equal in disrespecting America.
  20. I've never seen the attendance breakdown for MLS, but I can't imagine they have a ton of people coming from out of town. If anything adding a new rivalry game should boost attendance and local tv ratings for the Houston and Dallas clubs a few times per year.
  21. https://deadspin.com/columbus-crew-welcome-to-the-stadium-extortion-racket-1819608903 Crew owners attempting to pull a major league move on Columbus.
  22. He is popular with Republican voters. Zero chance any swamp / Wall St Republican candidate would come within a mile of him in the primary. If he wanted to run as an independent for some reason it would not be any trouble for someone of his stature to get ballot status in every state. It's a pain in the ass for the small parties we currently have. I think the Libertarians are usually the only part to do it. But that's just because they have very limited funds / volunteers to collect signatures. Not a problem Trump would have.
  23. Reading through this it seems to confirm that at points in his Presidency Obama signed form letters to families. So Trump was correct to point out that he writes a personal letter. Also, Trump is now implying that his claim was based on Obama not calling Gen. Kelly, Trumps chief of staff, when his son died. Seems like a dick move to bring Kelly's business into the national spotlight. But it is BS that the media was badgering Trump about not calling every family when it had only been a few days, and then they seem to be implying in their headlines that Obama did call every family. Haha. That's a funny joke. Of course it was probably mocking the media reporting on Pence, not what Trump perceives to be the actual views of Pence. Pence proved weak-kneed on this issue when he was governor of Indiana. He backtracked on a popular religious freedom bill that would have allowed people to skip religious ceremonies with which they disagreed. If he can't stand firm defending the most basic religious freedoms for people opposing gay marriage, he's not going to be rounding up people into camps anytime soon.
  24. I suppose the thinking would be that it's theoretically possible for English people to change Westminster to a greater extent than to change the EU.
