  1. I believe Ellis will be nervously looking over his shoulder right now. For all the public talk about consolidating our status and giving priority to the community I cannot think Mr Haughey will be happy to keep coughing up for chief executives, commercial managers, and all the unnecessary hangers on if the performance on the pitch of the first team does not come up to scratch. No matter what anyone says or thinks the most important factor to bringing in finance and extra fans is the performance of the first team. Football is a results driven industry and to think we can buck that trend with a unique formula is pie in the sky. If results and performances do not pick up between now and the end of the year I can see changes in the team management personnel. I would much prefer to see an improvement in results.

Don’t understand what the issue with Charlie Fox is. I was delighted to see Morrison back yesterday, and he played very well at both ends of the park, but why pair him with Kilday, who offered little at either end of the park, and sideline Fox? And the removal of Gillespie to make way for Connell is just nuts. Time after time yesterday Fyvie and his mates strolled forward without challenge. The whole shape of our team seems to have been altered to accommodate Connell who has moments of brilliance but more moments of losing possession. Only Brown and Longridge competed like a midfielder needs to at Balmoral. We have too many ball jugglers who want to play up front and like the end of the Alloa game it’s leaving huge gaps in midfield. We were very lucky yesterday.

Thankfully Longridge and McHugh are both on fire and that’s masking the weaknesses. Murray offered nothing at all yesterday. His early season energy has waned. Poor in the air, not great at ball control compared to many others in the team, seldom on target with shots. Just poor all round. Longstaff needs to start in the next two games to get his confidence up. Top marks to Doyle for that header.

3 goals at Cove is tremendous but for the first time I have a query over Laurie’s player choices, not his system.

This exactly. I did post way back on page one my misgivings about the selection. I could not understand the omission of Fox in favour of Kilday. Fox and Morrison would make a terrific pairing for me. Thomson offers little and again the omission of Gillespie was baffling. He has steadied many ships this season. We badly need a left sided midfielder of strength to combat teams exploiting Robson's obvious weak spot. Davidson would be my man. Not sure we can afford Connell for ninety minutes. Perhaps he and Longstaff could workshare? Murray has been disappointing of late, chicken no head comes to mind, and he should be fined by the club for yesterday's stupidity. Thank goodness McHugh looks up for it and he and Longridge are hitting the spot at the moment. Next two fixtures should be the springboard we need for the difficult part of the season through to January.

  3. Loving the score but if I was a Cove fan I would be sick as a parrot. Let us assume we were not pretending. We were awful. If we were pretending that is the mark of a league winning team. Vote now. I have to say it is not often we do to other teams what so often happens to us. Last week for example. Long way to go and not many fingers left to chew.

I think it's a yellow, but it's too close to a red for comfort. I, and I'm sure most Alloa fans at the game, feared the worse, especially given our recent history.

Just watched the highlights (again 😍) and it really was a cracking game of football. Competitive throughout, loads of chances for both teams and that finish. Not sure how Queen's didn't score when Robbo cleared off the line twice.

    As did Murray!

  5. What a game. In truth this type of result has been knocking on our door for some time. We have been remarkably fortunate to be where we are in the league with so many key players out. The next two or three weeks could define our season. If we get to Christmas still challenging I am confident we will do well. It should feel like a new team when our key guys return. As for today it was one of those days when defending and composure went out the window. At risk of being insulted again we need a goalkeeper who is imposing commands his area and gives confidence to the defence. I am sorry but Wullie is not that man. I believe we may have one and would like to see him given a chance. I was surprised we did not address our striking force at the beginning of the season instead of bringing in more midfielders than we need but it is what it is. It will be interesting to see how we respond next week. We desperately need Morrison back and defensively left back is a problem area. But hey, we are top of the league. Just think how Falkirk must feel.

I can understand why nothing was said in the preview about Connell and Murray, why advertise to your opponent that two of your most potent goal threats are going to be missing?

Agree with the point about Baynham, the veil of secrecy about him, Grant and Quitongo is baffling and infuriating in equal measure.

Indeed, but the time for information was surely in the post match interview when either the obvious questions were never asked,  edited out, or the interviewer was warned off.
