  1. I watched the highlights of the game.  While realising it is cherry picked to show the "best" bits, I still saw a number of positive things.  Agyeman slippery and forceful run up to our goal was great.  It looks like he's going to be a real handful, something we've not had in a good while. The same two standout problems we have were still there though, lame finishing - best demonstrated by Morrison's soft shots which ended up as pass backs to the goal keeper.  The other is obviously being statues in defence sometimes leading to letting in needless goals.

If these weaknesses are dealt with I can see us doing well this season. Aye but there lies the rub.  Is it going to happen?

For me the season is full of promise and possibilities.  Let's see what happens.

  2. By far the highest priority for the players today was not to get injured on the cusp of the season.  Throwing themselves into 50/50 tackles would be stupid in a game that doesn't matter. I am not bothered by the result.  I'm sure we'll have a good number of occasions during the season to vent our ire, but today is not one of them.  COYB

  3. In the 50 odd years I have been avidly following Falkirk there have been more times to feel down than happy over what was happening on the field (hence my tongue in cheek "long suffering Bairn" user name.  But apart from a few select teams, every other team are probably in the same boat. Let's face it we don't support Falkirk because it's a good idea.  It's my home town, my dad supported them, lifting me over the turnstyles at Brockville, heritage, etc, etc.

In saying all that, when it goes right on the park it feels great and puts a spring in my step all week.  And that makes it worth it.

As for McGlynn, while last season was disappointing (being mild here), I would say he had it about 80% right.  Compare that to the past several managers who might have got it, to be generous, 40% right.  So I am backing McGlynn. This season is make or break for him, and us.

We only sold 320 last season. We are never going to sell many but that figure will go up a fair bit when/if there is confirmation of Colin McGowan leaving.

I am genuinely gobsmaked by Hamilton only having 300 odd season ticket holders.  Not making a dig at them, I just find it difficult to understand how any full-time professional football team can survive with so few.  I understand that geographically Hamilton lose most of their potential fans to the old firm but where is the money coming from for even basic club operations?  If Falkirk had so few season ticket holders we would be playing in the South of Scotland league by now.  Gobsmacked.

  5. My brother back in 75 or 76 went to play with his pal in Polmont.  His pal's dad was something in sports marketing or something at the time and guess who was in the house having a meeting with him .... no less that Franz Beckenbauer.  I never believed my brother at the time obviously but everyone involved still swear it was true.  And no, he wouldn't have a kick about apparently.

  6. Arfield next please.  The small money we could afford won't matter as he's got more than enough to last him the rest of his life already.  Finishing his career at Falkirk would be a satisfying bookend for him and fantastic for us.   Come on Scott, come home, if only for this season to get us out the mire.

  7. The only reason Morrison is still with us is because of his inconsistency.  He has flair, skill and can dribble past defenders for fun and score a few wonder goals, but only on those occasions when he is on the top of his form.  60% of the time he is not.  Too much of a risk for a higher league team except maybe the league above us but even then the hot and cold nature of his form would make that doubtful.

In saying that I'm sure his agent could easily make a video with clips that would impress many a team much bigger than us but once they investigated more they'd realise what we all do.

After the above I still think he is a great asset to the club, when on form easily our best player, probably earns a dozen points in the league for us by himself.
