    Translation -

"fucking coward with wafer-thin majority dodges long-overdue humiliation".

Every incumbent should be forced to stand in perpetuity, until they either drop dead, or are punted by the electorate.

This. I was angry to hear that Gove was running away yesterday.  This useless, venal, mendacious c4nt has for years been happy to defend the indefensible on TV and radio, plugged his pals into VIP lanes to get their snouts in the trough for millions/billions of public money (especially during the pandemic), tell us "we've had enough of experts" during Brexit, which he fully supported, and then more recently casually admitted that the UK was "broken" and nothing worked anymore. The least he could have done was stand and be publicly humiliated on 4/7. He is an absolute weasel, the Tory's Tory.

    TL/DE; I hate Michael Gove.

I predict the sturgeon investigation will suddenly pick up pace in the coming weeks

I'm picturing Police Scotland spilling their cuppas and getting their feet off their desks when the news came through yesterday - got to get this back in the news in a single month rather than 5 or 6!

Not nearly enough consideration to how Scottish local authorities will actually deliver this election.

The first two weeks in July are by far the most popular for summer holidays. Parents of school-age children - more than 1.5 million voters - have a 7 week window for their holidays and the first two weeks are by far the best for cost and options.

This is especially true in the public sector and local government. I'd bet at least half of all Returning Officers have a foreign holiday booked and paid for. Teachers in particular take the first two weeks.

They get additional pay for working elections but it's nowhere near enough to incentivise staff to cancel holidays and then try to rebook when most holidays are already booked.

Polling station and count staff are mostly local government employees, and a very high proportion of them are teachers. They're simply not going to be around and I'm not convinced local authorities will be able to find enough people to cope. You need a reasonable proportion that have done it before, especially as this will be the first election with voter ID.

Lots of schools have maintenance work over the summer - do they postpone that and if so, are UK government going to compensate local authorities?

There will be massive demand for postal and proxy votes from people who will be on holiday. I wouldn't be surprised at a million applications in the next few weeks. Do local authorities have the staff for that?

Big increases in demand for postal votes in recent years have lead to them being sent out increasingly late. Anyone going to Germany should get a proxy, postal ballot papers probably won't be sent out until after they leave.

This is a massive logistical pain in the rrse.

I've seen cringey fkwits calling these concerns parochial, which is a mental enough take, but there's no chance any country would arrange its elections for peak holiday time. The French would burn the AN to the ground if they organised an election in August.

100%. It's almost like Scotland is an afterthought - they would never in a million years have scheduled an election for the English school holidays.

If any Tory SPAD or hanger-on thought about this for more than 10 seconds I'm pretty sure their conclusion would have been "good, 95% of Scottish people under 65 don't vote for us anyway so it'll cost Labour and the SNP votes".

If there are issues with organising polling stations then the Tories will probably blame the SNP for that too.

Lots of people who don't vote Tory will be getting their passports renewed in time for a summer holiday.

Thus they won't have valid photo id on election day, won't be able to vote and hence Rishi wins the election.

    Just a thought.

Swinney made a good point that this election has been called for the first week of the Scottish school holidays when quite a lot of (younger) people may be abroad - but before the English school holidays.  Make of that what you will.

If it’s a hung Parliament the LibDems/SNP should make abolition of FPTP a condition of their support.

The idiot LibDems should have done that in 2010 and been firm on it rather than agreeing on a vote on AV (a bad system) and allowing their coalition partners to campaign against it. Still, Cleggy and Danny boy got to enjoy their ministerial limos for a few years at the cost of their party's future credibility.

"here Scotland, take your one tenth of coverage of anything that is important to you - proportionately you can't argue with that".

That's certainly the case in terms of BBC investment in rights for radio coverage and highlights programmes of league football. If anything I think the service provided up here by the UK's public service broadcaster is about 1/100th of the standard on offer south of the border.

Graham best forward in the league - but he is 36- and joke he plays usually 90mins( James Forrest doesn’t get anything like that )

I know you and many fans don’t rate Dowds but clearly Brown and Whittaker who have played at much higher level do.

Bizzare but ironic if he has been offered deal. Bizzare as no forward is successful as understudy to Graham’/ as seems he refuses to be substituted . Dowds had great record as subsitute under McCall but Doolan never played him- never even put him onto to take penalties against Ross Country despite the fact he has never missed a penalty in Professional football but kept on Brannigan who has rarely scored a penalty in professional football - and he missed bs Ross County.

Interesting if Doolan says got it wrong - you scored 14 goals - 7 assists with one of the worst teams in the league? He does that- he might be smart.

For me - Graham best forward in the league- but 36- not sure in all aspects anyone better than Dowds…. But many disagree - all about opinions….

I think Stewart and Mitchell will be away. I think the club will offer Sneddon a deal, again.

    Just a hunch.

I'd rate them as follows this season, with 5 a pass mark for Championship standard keepers:

Mitchell - 4/10, belatedly stepped in and was almost adequate but not quite; seemed to be hiding or in a huff along with his agent before that when Stewart got picked ahead of him.

Sneddon - 3/10, shame as he seems a nice lad but not sure what's happened to him as he was probably at passmarks last season - confidence or concentration issues, and/or poor coaching?

Stewart - 0/10, would be amazed if he gets another gig; quite incredible that he has had any sort of career as a GK.

Is anyone else just sick and fed up of Sportsound? Or is it just me? The 'pundits' are woeful, the post-match 'interviews' with managers are completely pointless, merely Chick Young and co chumming up to the managers and zero tactical insight is ever offered or even attempted to be gained.

Billy Dodds- Really is a pointless pundit... never says anything of worth and merely parrots what is already being said in the papers on a current issue.

Chick Young- If he is a 'journalist' he never does any research and also offers zero insight.

Richard Gordon- I know this view may not be universal but he really gets on my wick. I acknowledge he is far more competent than the rest as a broadcaster and constantly has to stop the others shouting over each other on live radio like a school teacher but I find him an odious p***k tbh.

Willie Miller- Just find him a pedantic tosser. Summed up at the weekend in that he had no clue about teams in the lower leagues (other than the Big 3). And the taxpayer subsidises this man to be a pundit on national radio?

Allan Preston- The biggest numpty of them all. How can a man who has only ever had one manager job (At Livingston where he got sacked after 14 games , only winning 1/2 losing the vast majority of the rest including a 7 game losing streak which got him sacked.) be a 'pundit' who broadcasts his supposed wisdom to the nation every week. It is not like he is even close to talking sense anytime soon Fail. Also his constant "chance" every 15 seconds on open all mics is quite a grate.

After the weekend, first games of a new season I lasted about ten mins on Saturday before becoming completely pissed off at being reminded as to how shite a programme it really is. Hence this post.

Apologies for the rant. Or do others agree that it is complete horseshi*t? This is the national taxpayer funded radio programme after all. When you listen to five live it is night and day. Although I appreciate there are plenty of idiots on there too and they probs have far bigger a budget due to English football/premiership etc but as an overall show it trumps Sportsound... surely we can produce better in Scotland?

One Thousand pages and ten years ago the above post started this thread - not much has changed except replacing Gordon with Kenny Mac - and the Mikey Stewart arguing with himself routine.
