The deliberate spelling mistake of adding a h to things when engaging with Celtic fans is every bit as tragic as those who add a z to the end of some words.

    You’re better than that.

When we rehomed our dog (a collie from a farm), the farmer, wearing a celtic-badged beanie hat, was insistent that her name was a common girl's name - but with an 'h'.  Make sure you spell it like that, he said (it never ever has an 'h').

She's a fantastic, happy dog (who had to have urgent treatment for an infected tooth which was so bad it smelled; fleas; and malnourishment once we'd got her off the farm, not to mention filthy matted fur which needed a lot of care to put right) - and we immediately changed her name to something which sounded similar - with no 'h' in it.

I agree that adding an 'h' to things is tragic and an absolute minter.  Celtic fans often do it, which is why fans of normal clubs take the piss out of them by doing it too - and it always makes me think of the day we rescued Fern, and the state she was in.

Story of Bob's career so far. T6 at the Open at Portrush and we saw about 2 shots then; ditto his Masters debut (T12).  Final singles at the Ryder Cup, wins the tie, we see about 2 shots...

Draw is best we can hope for now. We're at that stage where we just have to shit fest results and hope to get chances up the field to score to steal points. We are proper shite and are well worthy of being 9th in the league.

Not even going to watch this on TV, that's how bad it is. Probably. Ach, who am I kidding? I'll have it on in the background. 4-0 Thistle.

Haha, we sure showed you!  Never overestimate Partick Thistle!

I'd like to reiterate, they've got a decent enough mid to lower Championship level keeper in David Mitchell on the bench so I've no idea why Partick Thistle are proceeding to put Ross Stewart in the goal. The amusing thing is, even if it was Peep Show's David Mitchell playing in goal, Deniz Mehmet would still be the worst keeper in both squads.

That's a very good question. There were rumours in January that Mitchell's agent had fallen out with Doolan. From what I've seen tonight Mitchell is considerably better than Stewart.

    That’s a bucket list course

Yeah, would love to play it (and never will).  Larry David is a member at Riviera (among many other famous Bel Air people). The Black Swan Curb ep about the Japanese owners was about Riviera.

Sadly it was also the scene of Monty shooting 65 in the final round of the '95 USPA only to lose to Elkington in the playoff.

I'm off to a The Spartans match next month with a Dumbarton supporting mate of mine from down south. I was telling him that my loyalties may be somewhat divided as The Spartans have our boy in goal, not to mention Callum Booth and James Craigen, whom I described to him as the scooter of the most important Thistle goal this century.

As we're not far off 25% of the way through, what would people's Thistle Eleven of the century so far be?

Graham and Doolan up front are nailed on, but for the rest things aren't as clear. Should one go by their overall time at Thistle, or could you separate the good seasons from the bad for players like Barton, Osman, Keown, Dumbuya and numerous others who went to shite? Would it be fair to leave out, or include, future Scotland players like Hendry who only made a handful of appearances for us? What about guys who were great for us in the third tier but obviously lesser players than jobbers we had in the Premiership?

The parameters need clarified before I can feel confident in posting my team of eleven Henoc Mukendis.

Not sure about the whole team but the stick ons for me would be Cerny, Lindsay, Erskine, Bannigan, Doolan, and Graham. Probably Lawless and ATS too.

Are you counting Euros but not the other regional tournaments?

Wrong thread for this discussion I realise but since you asked, I counted Euros and Copa Americas (the two continents with WC winners/finalists)  - bearing in mind the latter has had 47 stagings to 16 Euros, has fewer countries, and started much earlier - so for comparison's sake maybe 3 CAs to a Euro win. Obviously if WC wins are heavily weighted then England's sole win puts them =7th with Spain (with 1 major win to Spain's 4). There is no comprehensive way to order this table but there is a clear Top 7 and I would argue that the Czechs have been a bigger force in world football than England.  Yours, McGlashan 😉

There can't have been many instances of a nation hosting three major Finals tournaments, and the hosts playing every single one of their matches at all three tournaments in the same venue (obviously "Wembley" has gone through two iterations, but the same spiritual venue at least). Brazil perhaps?

Aside from the seeming unfairness of it, you'd think the FA might want to actually give fans around England the chance to see the national side play meaningful football outside of London for once. Still, the rage, tears, snotters, and meltdowns when some bunch of foreigners has the temerity to pitch up at the self-anointed "Home of Football" and punt the home team oot is well worth it.

Not only that, but it's well worth remembering that England with their sole major tournament win are tied with Denmark, Greece and Portugal on that number, behind fellow one-off winners the Netherlands, Czechia/oslovakia and the USSR in terms of finals reached, with those countries all having got to 4 against England's 2 (both at home). They are miles behind the "Big 7" of Brazil, W/Germany, Italy, Argentina, Uruguay, France and Spain, who have all won at least 4 and been to at least 5 finals.  Germany are currently on 14 major finals and Italy on 10. 🙂

Think we can all feel it before it's even checked, but in the last 10 years of competitive action it's 36 defeats from winning positions and 24 wins from losing positions.

I feel like the former happened almost every other week under Alan Archibald - but that was in the top tier for the most part.

  10. Can't claim to be a rugby expert - like a lot of folk I only watch the 6N and WC and never the club game.  But yesterday reminded me why I am totally scunnered with this Scotland team, and rugby in general.

    • From a Scotland perspective, this is the most talented pool we have had in a generation - and somehow under Townsend we have achieved precisely f8ck all other than a few enjoyable one off wins.  We should have pasted the Welsh by 40 last week and we won by a point.  We should have kicked the points at the end of the 1st half yesterday then inevitably didn't score, and played a dismal kicking game all 2nd half which didn't work. We got the absolute minimum out of these two matches. I don't think Russell is a good (co-) captain, because last week the players weren't listening to him and this week he turned down vital points and ran the kicking show for the 2nd half which got us nowhere.
    • The TMO fiasco at the end was (obviously) scandalous - the ref saying out loud he would overturn based on what had been said, then the TMO suddenly rowing back and stopping him - WTAF?  It was almost as much a kick in the baws as Joubert in 2015 and I can't remember anything in the 6N or WC rugby that has happened inbetween these two decisions which was more outrageous. This year we've been denied a win, momentum and hope for the rest of the 6N and last time we would've been in a winnable WC semi against the Argies.
    • The referees in rugby union have far, far too much influence over the outcome of a match - last week against Wales we got ragged, but did we deserve 14 pens in a row?  A lot of penalties are obscure to say the least (in that a lot of cases, if they weren't called barely anyone would notice) - and the whole tedious scrum process also looks utterly pointless these days;  retained for reasons of history and the sport's identity more than anything else.

Overall, utter pish both from Scotland's perspective and for the sport in general - and yes, I am still seething! /rantover

Fair play to him for resigning - pretty unusual in modern times. I stand by what I've said throughout, I like the guy even if it hasn't worked out well. He's straightforward and honest, no mucking about. When he came to the conclusion he wasn't the man for the job, he took the honourable course of action and stepped aside.

  12. Bob's putting has always been hot and cold but this is something else. Completely losing it just when he moved to the States full time is brutal timing. Get Pete Cowen in for some lessons!
