  1. *sigh* Imagine losing a player to that shower.

Right, so, I'm sure a few of you will get your knickers in a twist over this assessment:

     GK:

Cantley: Never made a first team appearance, not really expected to
Currie: OK, fine. But is this his level?

    Def:

    Fordyce: Strong centre back
Kerr: Upgrade on Crighton if he can stay fit
Quitongo: Finished 9th, downgrade on previous LB, notable step backwards
Walker: Developing. Not as good as McKay.
Wardrop: Says he is a winner, finished 9th.
Watson: From another team that finished in the bottom half of the table, 6th this time.

    Mid:

Agnew: Aging but also fills a roll as Assistant Manager. Didnt have a great 2nd half of season, is he done? Team he came from finished 6th
Easton: Known to blow hot and cold, can be an exciting player or a waste of space. Which one we are getting by the sounds of things is on a game by game basis. Lots of goals last season, but lowland league.
Frizzell: Finished 9th. Doesn't seem to have done much of anything since leaving kilmarnock.
McCabe: I have a sheff wednesday fan who is a member of my team at work, so asked him about McCabe, and the answer was "player who thinks he is better than he actually is". Can Murray motivate McCabe into being that quality player that he should have about him? I don't really think Murray wins the motivation game very often tbh.
Richie: Quite an anonymous player for someone who is there to provide utility
Robert: Murray hasn't developed him any further towards his supposed potential unfortunately. Has glimpses of quality, but still needs to handle the physical game much better than at present. People seem to think he is off, so?

    Atk:

Allan: Couldnt get a game in a team that were relegated.
Gallagher: Will score goals if he gets service
    Pyott: Tea maker extrordinaire???

This squad as it stands looks like a mid table squad at best, and certainly wont have me rushing out to buy a season ticket.

I accept Quitongo is unlikely to be anywhere near the quality of Leon McCann, however can we afford to have two left backs? Surely we’re better investing whatever McCann’s wage would be into a better centre forward or another holding midfielder.

If we are playing with a wing back we want McCann.

I don't see any upside to quitongo at all tbh, would have been better searching further afield if we need to replace that position.

Hopefully McCann is as ambitious as he claims and goes somewhere better than Falkirk if he is indeed going.

Firstly I belong to Dumbarton thread

    and...

you can’t deny it, Christ Alloa have went up twice in that time and came back down, Arbroath, f**k even Brechin went up and came back down lol. All whilst you’s lot think you are something cause you went semi full time 😆😆

    Get real

The goal of any team is surely to win and get promoted. Indeed the club and manager have set expectations of a title challenge next season.

    Ergo -

1-  While I appreciate you are probably easily confused about which thread to be in considering the shape of our squad right now; kindly f**k off back to the Dumbarton thread whence you came. 😀

2 - Go write Ian Murray and the Airdrie board for having ideas above their station in your eyes.

Well done Airdrie for being progressive enough to sign the first woman to play in the SPFL - Ada Frizzell.

Also, East Fife sign Scott Mercer from Falkirk.

We also signed Frizzell and Wardrop from ourselves, although it's an easy mistake to make considering how many players we seem to be signing from 9th placed Dumbarton...

Max Currie? That keeper that was relegated with Stranraer two seasons ago? Oh no, we’re doomed...doomed I tells ya!

What, the same keeper that played in the team when we didn't get promoted last season, meaning that we are now going into our, what, 9th consecutive season in this division?

Decent keeper, and glad to have him signed up, but doesn't really disprove my point around recruitment strategy.

So by your reasoning, any team below us can't have decent players in their squad? Really?

So we should only recruit players from teams above us?

Yeah that worked well for falkirk didn't it? Sammon, Telfer, Gomis, etc. really set them on fire.....

My reasoning is that if we are genuinely going to push to be promoted from this division next season, we should be looking to recruit better than what we had last year.

Development projects are hit or miss, and they will not all come good, and then you are stuck for half a season. As we saw last year.

"good enoughs" mean equivalent failures, particularly in the middle of the park.

Signing from teams below us, sure, fine, if they are stand outs. However they aren't, other than perhaps Agnew who is getting on and has a secondary role.

East Fife wouldn't have made the playoffs if Falkirk hadn't simply collapsed after the restart, and there's a reason Dumbarton were 9th, and that reason is the guys on the park weren't good enough to win many games.

The talk in the Falkirk thread is that there’s Premiership and Championship teams interested in McCann. The interview he did a month or so ago was pretty adamant that he’d only go somewhere he’ll be playing first-team football so I suppose he could still end up at Falkirk but I hope he ends up in a higher league. He’s been a great player for us over the last two years and I’d much rather he got a chance at a higher level rather than playing against us for one of our rivals.

If he does move to Falkirk then while it’s always disappointing to lose someone to your rivals it’s hard to argue with him joining a bigger club on presumably a higher wage. That’s just how football works, it’s no different to us signing players from Dumbarton because we can offer them a slightly better wage. Even though Falkirk finished below us they’re still a bigger club and playing every week there isn’t any less ambitious than doing the same for Airdrie. I think he’ll end up in the Championship though if there are teams at that level trying to sign him.

If it's about money, I'm sure we could sign 1 fewer dud who will get released in a season and spend it on retaining McCann instead.

I’m surprised you guys are considering yourselves anywhere near championship contenders. Compared to the Arbroath team that went up a couple years ago, Alloa the year they beat Dumbarton in the playoffs, and the Dumbarton team for the 5 years previous to that. Then you guys are a fair distance away from making that step.

Well that's my point, right? Murray's stated goal for the coming season is to get us out of league 1 in an upward trajectory. This doesn't align with his signings so far, or the other names being linked to us.

  9. If we lose McCann, I'd hope it's to a level up and not to someone in the same division such as Falkirk.

Not fussed about O'Reilly/McKay. McKay had actually done enough in my book to stay, but this is his level, and wouldn't be capable of handling a step up if we ever get there.

Not impressed with the league 1 players names that are being banded about. They aren't an improvement.

Pleased to have kept Fordyce and Gal
