I don't think another ever said they would replicate the conditions and targets of the Oz system into the UK. Just the structure.

He had previously had lots of informal conversations with FBI agents and thought that this was another one. He's surely not stupid enough to purposefully lie to them when they are verbatim quoting his own words from a phone call when (i) he knows that they can monitor any phone call (ii) the things he said and did weren't illegal anyway so there was no need to lie.

Flynn's defence statement for his sentencing is out. He agreed to talk to the FBI with no lawyer present and two hours later agents turned up. They didn't warn him about the consequences of lying to the FBI. The FBI agents decided beforehand not to prompt if anything he said from memory diverged from their surveillance records. Unlucky ya thick war criminal p***k.

At the risk of sparking a few tantrums the Growth Commission's plan involves at least another decade of austerity. And while I agree that UK austerity was needless, politically motivated and cruel the hardships inflicted on Greeks have been of a different magnitude.

Greece's fiscal deficit was unsustainable - claiming otherwise shows what a fucking economic illiterate you really are. It may have been practically unsustainable but that doesn't justify punishment austerity policies that killed tens of thousands of people, reduced millions to misery and caused a mass emigration of it's young people. There has been an explosion of suicides, mental health issues and drug addiction. This was all done to protect the balance sheets of French and German banks. Anyone who thinks the treatment of the Greek people is anything less than a crime doesn't have a compassionate bone in their body.

It's one of those great myths the European bureaucrat - there's more fucking bureaucrats in a middling Whitehall department than in the EU. These are the numbers. The vast majority of civil servants are employed providing direct services. Job centres, benefits, the prison estate, the legal system and the armed forces. Most other departments only have a couple of thousand full time employees. It's this class of person who is likely to fit the term bureaucrat.
