  1. As we approach Remembrance Day 2021, we pay our respects... In 1914 and 1939, when the nation needed men and women to serve in the country’s armed forces, football players were among those who volunteered. Partick Thistle FC were one of the many clubs whose players and former players became soldiers, sailors and airmen, and not all of them came home. This is a record of those Jagsmen who paid the ultimate price serving their country. They are listed by war & alphabetical order, with a short introduction outlining their club career, and then information on their war service. ... to The Partick Thistle Fallen →
  2. Love it! ^ Fuctifano, yeah, the rebounds could do with an asterisk couldn't they? We've got the majority side-noted, still to check some so we can present to Archive standards. To-do list! Actually, the slow reaction of our defenders for rebounds is one of my biggest pet peeves.
  3. Also published today is our brand new list page, putting at your fingertips the definitive list of every penalty faced by Thistle, 1891 to date... Every penalty (faced) →
  4. Brand new 'Partickle' published today... When it comes to penalties, we've had many more against us than for us, and here we chart the story all the way from the beginning in the 1890s and every decade since. For the goalkeeper, it's his big chance to win games, to be the hero, and to get a taste of the striker's glory. Read about the first-ever penalty in a Thistle game. Which save ensured a cup final win? Who's faced the most pens? We look at all the trials and tribulations and conclude with our ultimate three penalty prevention Kings... Penalty Them, No! →
  5. Away man, momentum was all set to carry us to a glorious 2-1; you were on dead on your knees and powerless to resist the Magyars in full flow.
  6. He was pilloried for his 2 misses because our expectation levels of him were so high. Fact is his conversion rate (71.4%, 5/7) is on historical par. We can look back and laugh at that Falkirk mind you, and I'm quite sure he'd be the first to do so. Yes! Any club historian dedicated / mental enough to research their entire penalty history will surely come to the same conclusion. Using the close-season 1902 changes as the divider the main stat's difference is clear to see: 1891-1902: success rate: 40.5% (15/37) 1902-date: success rate: 71.9% (528/734)
  7. PENALTY THISTLE, YES! Very pleased to be publishing out latest Partickle this evening. Charting the drama of Thistle's penalty-kick awards, our story takes it all the way back to the start in 1891. Who was first? Did you know Thistle's first goal at Firhill was a penalty? Who are Thistle's penalty Kings? It's been an emotional rollercoaster ride! By the way, it's Jered Stirling's birthday today. Co-incidence? I think not... Penalty Thistle, Yes! → In support of this piece, we have a brand-new list page, intended as a complete and definitive list of Every penalty (taken) →
  8. 112 years ago today Thistle played their first-ever match at Firhill, the stadium of dreams, the palace of the gallus. It's the place we've called home since 1909, but there's a lot more to the old ground than just Partick Thistle. Which Olympic champion ran at Firhill? Which Jag was born closest to the ground? Heard about the time we burned the pitch? Firhill's stories are as weird and wonderful as the club itself; join us for a 30-minute celebration of The Life And Times Of Firhill Park → Supporting the piece, we have 14 new list pages → breaking down all the (mainly non PTFC) Firhill activity from 1909 to date. Our ambitious Firhill diary → goes for the full megalist approach. Happy birthday Firhill!
  9. Thanks to Jags fan Tam, we've boosted the number of 1992-93 → match videos, and thanks to A.N. Other we've now got a complete set of the competitive games for season 2012-13 → Since all 6,500+ match hubs were introduced recently, we've been busy linking in the games in key sections so that your click-around exploration experience is that bit more convenient. As you hopefully know by now, clicking on the match result is the standard link to the hubs. We recently enabled this in the Thistle managers section (e.g. Davie McParland →) and the opposition managers section (e.g. Jock Stein →), and it's now rolled out to the H2H section too. Revamping the H2H section to link-in the match hubs database was an immense undertaking, but the deed is done. Whilst that was the main aim, the section has also been completely restyled with quite a few new touches. As you can see from the random example below(!), all the main head-to-heads have 6 tabs of bang up-to-date info to keep you informed. Check out the scorers charts within which now follow our standard squad stats design, meaning that the top dog gets his photie in there too! Fully revamped PTFC Head-to-Heads →
  10. Well, history records that the score was correct! 50 years ago to this very day, at Firhill, Thistle fans began an unforgettable journey that would shake history and confound the Grandstand presenter; our brand new 'Partickle' commemorates the events which unfolded. Hope you all enjoy the story of Thistle's unforgettable Autumn of '71... The Day The Other Cup Came Up To Maryhill →
  11. Inspired by all the developments at TTA lately, Jags fan Alex McNeill got busy uploading loads more match vids from 1993-94, the end result being that we now have 42 of the 44 League games covered for the season. Ding dang do, as I'm sure we can all agree. Well done that man! Season 1993-94 →
  12. There's around 200 games on DVDs awaiting conversion, 30 or so coming next week, do not despair ; - )
  13. Ooft! No end of misery on The Thistle Archive... http://www.thethistlearchive.net/who-put-the-ball-in-the-rangers-net-13
  14. It's a monumental day for The Thistle Archive, as we're now very proud to put all 147 seasons of Partick Thistle match history at your fingertips. Although there is much still to be done, every single game is profiled to varying extents. As you explore, you will notice that we have around 800 matches covered with video highlights, with many more yet to be digitally transferred from old VHS and DVD formats. In total, our Archive now has 13,183 active web pages for the Thistle community to reference and enjoy, so please help to spread the word wherever you can.
  15. Brand new to the Archive this morning is a neat 5 column table focused on the goalies. Sort by name, debut, most clean-sheets, most appearances or best clean-sheet ratio... The goalies' appearances & clean-sheets → Also in the pipeline, the individual goalie profiles are set to be bolstered with the addition of every clean-sheet and every penalty faced e.g. Andy Murdoch →
  16. What were the Thistle happenings on your birthday? Today, we're very pleased to introduce an exciting new aspect to our On This Day home page feature. Updating at midnight daily, this section of the home page will now include births and deaths of all the players and managers, day-by-day. With 1,200 birth dates and 300 death dates now in our extensive database, there's certainly enough to create an interesting daily display. First birthday honours go to George Adams (71) today! http://www.thethistlearchive.net/
  17. Inspired by Tommy & Kyle Turner, our new illustrated list page highlights Thistle's fathers & sons from down through the years... Fathers & sons →
  18. Following on from the publication of our Thistle managers section in May, the Thistle Archive is now very pleased to present the companion section - the Opposition Managers, with almost 700 new pages having been created. We examine every opposition manager/caretaker that Thistle have faced from 1903-04 onwards, with results summaries, every game managed and an overall comparison table. For added interest, a matrix of Thistle managers at the time is included within each of the match lists. Attentive users will note that every match hub (accessed via the result as usual) is hyperlinked. This is a statement of intent; we are now committed in the very near future to uploading at least a stub page for every single match in the club's history. At the time of writing, the links for matches between 1924-25 to 2012-13 remain unpopulated, so bear with us and we'll get to them during this close season. The Opposition Managers →
  19. Come join us! Since we launched The Thistle Archive in September, 2020, we've increased the number of live pages from 6,834 to 7,869. Now, we have another 6,000 in the pipeline, and extra hands to upload them are needed. We're hoping to sign-up a gang of volunteers to help push our Thistle history site forwards to the next level. More details here →
  20. Following on from the creation of our new People category in the top navigation bar, we're now very pleased to present to you our sub-category Managers, which houses profile hubs for all 32 men who've officially managed the club, including permanents and caretakers alike. As with our 2,000 player hubs, the manager's hubs are open for any creative development ideas. For now, a mini-bio is included, together with stats summaries, sortable comparison tables, a full list of games managed and a note of their "Thistle honours" wherever appropriate. The entire breadth of the club's history is at your fingertips. It's a great development for the Archive, and we hope you find these pages informative and maybe even entertaining, although that might be pushing it a bit... Managers A-Z →
  21. Three handy new pages published in the last few days... Examining Thistle's century-and-a-half honours haul of 32 gold, 31 silver and 3 bronze... Partick Thistle FC honours list → Jags currently sit on one of the most bizarre sequences in world football, with three double-downs and two double-ups. This new page looks at D-Day for the 10 promotions and 11 relegations so far... Promotions (and relegations) → Our third new "Achievements" page in three days serves as a round-up list of our European adventures, with a sprinkling of narrative. We'll be back there one day... European competitions →
  22. There were obviously pros and cons with the motion, and this was reflected in the voting which was touch and go for a while. In the end it was 33 YES and 43 NO. Many thanks to all who voted and commented . We will respect the will of the Thistle people! The NO's have it, the NO's have it.
  23. We're working on creating an honours list for players & managers. Should losing Scottish Cup Semi Finalists qualify for (virtual) bronze medals? Not doing a poll on P & B but you can PM us with your vote if you like or simply state on this thread, yes or no? 61 votes cast so far across WAT & Twitter, only 1 vote in it. P & B "poll" closes 23-Apr-2021 15:00.
  24. Shortly we'll be introducing 32 pages for each of our managers / co-managers from the entire history of the club. As a prelude to this, our latest 'Partickle' chronicles all of our managerial comings and goings, illustrated and precisely dated in one handy overview. 20 mins read...
