  1. Never thought I’d agree with you but, yes, you’re spot on.
  2. Far- right/racist. This government has far more ministers from ethnic minorities than any other in history. Taxes are higher than they’ve been for decades. Public expenditure is higher than its been for decades. I think you’re joking.
  3. Pleased to see that you do have a sense of humour which is pleasing. Your improvement shows no stopping!
  4. I think it’s quite a modest salary package for the hassle involved, not to mention the disruption to family life. A friend of mine was an MSP and resigned prior to the last Scottish elections and, from what she told me, it was anything but a cushy number. Constituents were constantly in touch and you really had to be on your toes 24/7. You do have assistants but there really is ‘no hiding place’.
  5. You’ll be pleased to hear that the English Premiership are doing another ‘taking the knee tomorrow’. Great stuff!
  6. Fair enough but I just can’t see how FSS is going to be able to raise enough money, or indeed sign up enough members to cover those losses. It’ll probably get reasonable numbers but over some considerable time. My guess would be around 900 by the end of the season. The next step, by the end of this month would be to tap the Patrons for another £10k each and my guess is that would pull in around £100k. At the same time I think they said they would be in touch with MR, SA and the Moffatts and it’s anyone’s guess as to what the reaction would be. SA might defer or forgive the rent on the SS for a period but, again, who knows? If the old MSG decide to help out I would think they would need strong representation on the Board completely independent of the Patrons or FSS. The Rawlins might also require board representation. Anyway, just my take on things having read the newsletters and watched the podcast. Interesting times, but somehow, I think we’ll navigate through as the whole atmosphere has been uplifted by the appointment of John and Paul. Football- what a business!!
  7. This is where the ‘racism’ industry kind of backfires. When we imagine a black person has to be downtrodden, uneducated and poor, we then find it hard to deal with a black person who is educated, wealthy and privileged. Time we just started dealing with everyone on the same basis. Just shows how stupid the whole BLM business was. I think you’ve, unwittingly, made a decent point.
  8. You are correct that we are all one step from disaster and, yes, yes, yes, that’s what the welfare state is for. When Beveridge set it up it was meant to be a means to allow people to get through a period of unemployment, sickness or some other catastrophe. Nobody, certainly not me disagrees with that. If the catastrophe is one of long term illness then state help needs to be long term and generous. I think you are accusing me of stating things which I most certainly didn’t. I do , however, think that there needs to be a degree of personal responsibility in how we conduct our lives :- Can we afford all those children? Can we afford the childcare? Should we eat ourselves to extreme obesity? Should we drink to a level which affects our health. Just a few examples where the individual needs to take care of their own lives. Just yesterday I was at the funeral of a 52 year old who effectively killed himself through drink and drugs. So, so sad! Anyway, I find it hard to think you could disagree with any of that?
  9. Excellent summary of what gross over reaction to Covid has brought us. It'll take years to get over this. Dont know about anyone else, but I can’t recall ever seeing so many young, grossly overweight people in wheelchairs. Im sure some serious starvation would help enormously.
  10. Deliciously funny seeing him get the boot. Always thought he was a sanctimonious lefty.
  11. Obviously, families need to take all those factors into account when planning their lives.
  12. He certainly was. Now a complete u- turn. Out with the begging bowl.
  13. Usual erudite reply. However, I always thought she was left- leaning.
  14. Neither of those scenarios are right but sometimes it’s just impossible or impracticable to pursue crooks who have maybe fled the country or operated the scam from abroad. HMRC are a top notch department but sometimes there efforts to catch wrongdoers fail. They had to move quickly with the furlough scheme otherwise the whole economy could have collapsed. Your single parent isn’t going anywhere and is obviously easier to catch. However, if she breaks the law, she needs to be punished. Your portrayal is not fair.
  15. Probably the former. I just do the easy stuff like book keeping and payroll.
  16. Fair enough. At least there seems to have been a debate about its definition. Its taxable which makes it a bit different from some of the others.
  17. And those will never materialise while we have employers who treat UC as a wage subsidy to save them paying a decent wage in the 1st place. It seems it's always the fault on the "lazy" employee. How does an employer even know that someone is on UC? All we know about an employee is the Code No. we get from HMRC to apply to their earnings. Surely it’s only the business of the employee?
  18. Just as an aside- is the state retirement pension actually a benefit? Always thought benefits were things you got when you were ill, unemployed or in dire straits. Always thought that the pension was something everyone paid into and received on retirement age. No doubt the experts will correct me?
  19. No way- I’ve paid in quite a lot over the years and it’s the only benefit I’ve ever had. No doubt you’ll tell me I’m wrong. Certainly never had sickness or unemployment benefit. I do get £100 every winter. Its very possible to be retired and also keep one’s finger on the pulse. No pay though. Much more interesting than wasting my time posting to numpties on here.
