If it is any consolation, I think the play off winner is coming from the other tie. Surprised Stirling have slumped this season given their runaway success last year

It's pretty much the same squad.

League one has been a step up in quality and for the most part they haven't handled it.

I'm not overly surprised. I thought we needed upgrades in defence and the centre of midfield. We didn't get them and both have been a weakness

I've always thought Forthbank to be the ideal lower league modern stadium - that I wish we had built.  The two stands and end terraces are the ideal set up rather than our rather souless single stand.

it is a nice wee stadium. it took me a while to love it after Annfield but i do now. wish they'd put covers over the end terraces.  both for protection from the elements and for atmosphere. it's certainly still a lot better than most lower league grounds and perfectly suitable for our needs. Having one of the better lower league pitches is a bonus too.

  3. hopefully we see a better game of football than Tuesday night.

looks like we should have decent conditions. pitch is still looking good and we have a rare half decent weather forecast for Saturday. endured far too many poor games in the wind at Forthbank this season and it will make a pleasant change to be bathed in sunshine.

think i'll probably do the South terrace. might be the last chance for a good while. can't see it opening next year if we go back down.

Do you think DY will be here in the summer? There was a fair bit of animosity towards him at Dumbarton and something clearly not right behind the scenes - can only see things getting worse if there's another poor performance this Saturday.

i think he'll still be here. he's had 2 full seasons, one where he won the league and one where goal difference prevented us staying up automatically. Compared to our last few managers that's blinding........

i'd have had Flynn Duffy back in January. nowhere near as exciting as some of the loan signings we got but would have been competition for left back and also a solid left midfield option which might not have resulted in us being destroyed down that side so often.

at the moment we are still in the middle of everything and emotions are high. things will calm down again.

it's still not over yet either..............it's not the most promising postiion but there is still a chance.

  5. McPake is a lot better going forward than defensively.  i'm not saying Cammy Clark is the world's greatest fullback but he isn't getting a great deal of help. the midfield hasn't been an area of strength this season either. i don't feel we've ever really found the right combination. last season generally seemed to be a simpler 4-4-2 where the wingers knew their jobs. we seem to be playing more of a 4-2-3-1 lately which in theory should help with the extra midfielder but there just seems to be more confusion about who is picking up who, particularly out wide.

If Crane moved to left back then i think the only real replacement on the bench was Lewis Milne who can't press or tackle so would just have made the midfield even more porous.

the painfully slow back four was always going to be a problem this season.

I don't think Carrick is fully fit either. i've never seen so many poor touches from him as in the last 2 games.

  6. Ref was awful but we were worse.

Pretty typical of a lot of away performances thus year.

Hard to find many bright spots.

Our defence looked like they'd never seen a football before and the passing out was shocking.

Couldn't get McPake on the ball. Carrick looks so far off it I can hardly believe it.

We're gonna need a lot better on Saturday or it's league two for sure next season

Gee, well....here we are, tonight is indeed the night. I said in the run up to the season ending that if we were to end up in the Play Offs then I think we'll go down, and I standby that. I don't know if the sucker punch will come from Dumbarton or either of the other 2 teams, it's quite hard to tell when you haven't seen them play in a year. I like to get around the grounds when I can't make Stirling games, however I've not seen Dumbarton this season.

I'll leave the "where did it go wrong" post for the Stirling Albion thread when our season is over, however to answer some of the questions that were raised earlier in the thread, it's simply down to not improving when we were on top and as a result we've struggled to score goals all season. For the first 3 quarters of the season, I feel we did well, in fact we have actually competed well throughout the whole season, however if you can't score, then it's only a matter of time when the opposition bang one in and that's happened all too often and even that has often been through defensive errors.

Carrick just hasn't had a suitable partner all season, so has had to do a lot of work upfront himself and he's had to live off scraps. I've felt for the guy because he's worked tirelessly but it's just not happened for him, through no fault of his own. Hilson was brought in to add to our fire power and has failed miserably, and has been a poor addition in my opinion and although he is fine, I don't think Spence is up to League 1 level any more.....and that's been another of our problems, we're a very good League 2 team, however I don't think we've got many players that are of real quality in League 1. Our effort levels and our huffing and puffing got us so far, but we fell short because the ability just wasn't there.

Saying we are a "very good League 2 team" would make you think that I'm confident, as I said at the start, I'm not. I think a lot of the time, football is down to confidence and momentum and I don't think we have either. Darren Young (who I still back) has shuffled the pack time after time but with little to no difference. I suspect Weir will continue in goals, which baffles me but what can you do. After Saturday, he's got to change the Right Back, Scouse's performance was abysmal and he couldn't hide his anger when he was hooked, McGeachie should be straight back in having done ok again, after that the remaining back 4 pick themselves, Pabs, McGregor & Clark, all pretty decent for League 2.

Midfield will depend on what formation Young goes with, over the past 2 months he's chopped and changed to find the answer and hasn't. I suspect Banner, Crane & Leitch will be given the nod with McPake, Histon & Carrick as the wide 2 and Forward. McPake will hold the key for us as he has done so often since joining. If he can make things happen then we have a chance, if not then I fear for us.

I can't make it along tonight, I just hope we are still in a position where we are in a game on Saturday, whether that' winning comfortably or drawing, then I would take that. Dumbarton have a chance, they have a good chance, but we have to believe that our squad can do what we did against them last season. 1,600 and something were at Forthbank on Saturday, really hope we can get that again this week.

A fine summary of how we got here.

I can't understand the continued absence of Blair Currie either.

Your predicted line up looks about right. I'd prefer Offord to Hilson but I doubt we get it.

I'm nervously almost looking forward to it.

Our best chance of staying up was a single goal ie yesterday.  We now face potentially 4 games,  winning in 2. That is a big ask. Have the league 2 sides had a chance to rest players? This time last year Annan skelped Dumbarton 6-0 in 1st game. Dumbarton will be up for it.

Have just looked at stats for season . I would say they are reasonable, except goals for.

100% that was our best chance.

It's going to be incredibly difficult now.

Pretty sure Dumbarton got to rotate a bit on Saturday.

I'm clinging to the hope that we can raise ourselves again. This will probably be as tense as our last game in Dumbarton. I'd be happy with 0 0 again and hope to win at Forthbank.

  9. Don't really know what to expect.

Our form is pretty brutal but I haven't seen any shortage of effort and we have come up with performances against the teams nearer our level.

I'm still mentally exhausted (and a bit hungover) from yesterday so god knows how the players feel.

Big ask to pick themselves up for Tuesday.

I'm still hopeful we've got a couple of performances left in us.
