They're missing chances, but at the same time, if they're only getting one decent chance a match its unlikely they'll score regularly. Most games you're looking at half chances off crosses etc., and hoping they can bag them regularly.

I think the word sitter is misused, and the difficulty of certain headed chances underestimated. That's not to say we aren't missing good chances (eg today), but equally our main attacking approaches (crosses from deep, shots from outside the box, attempted passes through crowds of defenders) are pretty low-percentage. It isn't really a surprise if we often struggle to convert.

Get May in the box again.

Full in the knowledge that folk will tell me I'm being harsh, I don't like Clark's positioning at all for the winner on Saturday. He's not close enough to Robinson to make himself a significant obstacle and if he's closer to his line probably forces the goalscorer to take a touch, which gives both him and the defence an opportunity to block.

It's a strange-looking goal on the highlights. Agreed that if Clark stays closer to his line then Robinson can't simply pass it into the bottom corner (ish). Clark looks like he was expecting it to be thumped at him (and doesn't have much time to react).

Still not sure whether Davidson actually believes thats crosses are our best chance of a goal, or if he's just using the wrong word to explain his thought process, but I wish he'd stop making it seem like the first one.

Understand he might be saying differently behind closed doors, but our starting striker had one touch outside the centre circle in the second half at the weekend, and it was easy to forget he was even on the park as he was completely outnumbered, yet we still persisted in having 3 players wedged on the right flank despite United giving no space in behind them. That's an issue that isn't caused by poor crosses, nor one that would be sorted by putting better crosses in.

According to UEFA's latest Champions League technical report, 29.3% of goals in last season's competition were scored from crosses or cutbacks. Sounds like we need to sign Robert Lewandowski and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Stevie May is such an intelligent player.  His lack of electric pace has led to him developing a brilliant awareness of where to be and how to find space anywhere on the park.

Did we overestimate his pace first time round? I remember him being quick-ish at best. Difficult to assess (without being his fitness coach...) how much his injury has taken out of him.

The current Scotland set up should give a bit of hope to our centre half given they play in the same formation.

If Kerr keeps up his form I've no doubt he'll be in the running. As others have said, he's playing a very similar role to McTominay

On the face of it, I'd imagine we have a better chance of getting players called up under Clarke than the likes of Strachan or McLeish. A quick look suggests M Davidson was called up by Levein and Stark.

  6. First Saints game in a year for me. Enjoyed watching McCann - takes care of the ball and has the confidence to try things. Morris vibes from Holt. Davidson seemed to thrive with the other two handling the ball-playing. Like the look of Gordon and Kerr as a partnership, and while Ralston and Booth aren't the best full-backs I've seen at McDiarmid, they were far from hopeless and looked pretty solid.

The issue was turning the dominance into chances. Kane put in a shift but never looked like a scoring threat, and May (albeit with only 20 minutes to impress) doesn't look the same player he was at 21. Hendry much livelier and took his chance well.

Disappointed with only a point, but the performance was encouraging (and at least we got the equaliser - it would have been gutting to lose to a side like that after dominating the game).

I thought Rutkiewicz was well regarded by Saints fans? I loved him, great defender.

Comrie has been a surprisingly good signing, championship is his level at the moment but with gametime you could see him stepping upto the Premier in a couple of years.

Yeah, he was great in the First Division. I hamstrung myself by picking from players who had made more than 10 league appearances (according to Soccerbase) this decade. I was surprised his name was in the mix as I don't really remember him playing after we got promotion (and although a harsh inclusion I think the First Division was probably his level).

I missed the boat with the thread a few weeks ago on worst team but we have fair had some shite, especially up front. When folk criticise guys like Kane, and Cummins before him, you really need to be careful what you wish for.

I came up with 16 forwards who were a mix of the disappointing, pointless and outright rubbish: Johansson, Dobie, Robertson, Finnigan, Higgins, Keatings, Oyenuga, Riordan, Beattie, Gallon, Iwelumo, Morgan, Sutton, Gormley, Johnstone and McMillan.

Pick a starting pair out of that lot!

This is more like it. Worst team, based on 10+ league appearances (to weed out your Dobies and your Beatties) from 2010ish onwards:

    G Smith; A Comrie, K Rutkiewicz, G Gartland, W Duffy; J Adams; C Taylor, M Coulson, W Gibson; J Sutton, C Finnigan

Definitely easier to pick wingers and forwards...
