It will be from the bench though, he's not starting.

Well we got a goal hero from the bench, but it wasn’t Gal!   Gals goals have dried up and I know this league is a step up from L1 but I’m thinking he’s got a great chance against QP who are possibly on a level with Airdrie, but not better.  In the upcoming games we need our strikers performing to get us the vital points we need and they’ve been few and far between recently.  I said Pre-game that I was hoping to limit QP to one goal or better to give us a chance to get all 3 points but we never looked capable of that today.  Glad Mason earned us a vital point

  2. Thought we were a bit hesitant in the first half and the clinical passing disappeared for a bit.  Frizzell was having a nightmare in the first half and we just didn’t seem to be able to get flowing although Toddy’s headed save was immense, thought for sure it was going in.  Started to get into the game as the half wore on but felt we didn’t deserve to be level at the half.  first part of the second half was much the same with us failing to create real chances but the Murray-esk triple substitution made the difference and of course Hancock was a stand out when he came on, what a goal.  Friz much better second half but our strikers just didn’t make anything happen with a touch of brilliance.  McGill, Toddy etc just couldn’t get it done today and it cost us.  Is it just me or is McCabe having a much better influence when he’s on the park? He brings a bigger level of composure and reassurance to the team, I truly believe we could have bagged 3 points if he was playing.  As it is, a draw was definitely a fair result.  I think both QP and Airdrie would be happy for 8th place, results elsewhere going against both teams.   This league is shaping up for a cracking finish at both ends

thought McStravick looked lively all game, Megwa was his usual brilliant self and Mason turned it on coming on as a sub. Not a clean sheet, but thought Josh did well after a nice performance at Dundee.  We just need a purple patch with goals, not sure who’s going to turn it on though

  3. There’s no doubt about it, we will have 4 massive scrappy games ahead over the next few weeks. All against relegation contenders, the aim of the game is to stay ahead of that pack and not get sucked in to a relegation battle.  Our two games in hand are massive but I’m positive we can take 8 points out of possible 12.  I do fancy us to win today which would be a big boost, the lads needing to approach the game like they did on Tuesday and I actually fancy Gal to get on the score sheet.  Come through these games unbeaten and I’ll be very confident about retaining our Championship status.

    Obviously delighted.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - the Scottish Championship is the best league going. The majority of games are hilariously brilliant entertainment.

I don’t know wtf to make of the Championship, I thought L1 was nuts but this is turning into the jeckyll and Hyde league.  A classic case of league contenders throwing away a golden opportunity and Arbroath somehow, after staring into the abyss on Tuesday and trailing Rovers at home, managing to salvage something and who knows what could happen.  Must have been painful for the Rovers fans driving home through Dundee tonight 🤣

and since Arbroath responded from a big loss and won last night, it’s only fair that the big winners on Tuesday get pumped by the Diamonds today.

best of luck to both teams moving forward. I think you’ll need it.  Heck. We all need it 👍

I was thinking about this earlier, now some of the players have proven they can make the step up there must be a fair few that would intrest other Championship clubs with more money, Rae, Ballantyne, Hancock, Telfer for example, top priority though needs to be McCabe.

If McCabe stays it will help to keep other players at the club as long as there is a larger budget.   If he goes, it could end up being a bit of a shit show and us losing a majority of the squad.   Get the cheque book out, get Rhys and Dycey locked in to a new contract.   I’m hoping that happens when the board pretty much know we will be a championship team next season

  6. This one could be tough and with QP on a high after routing (albeit a pretty poor looking) Arbroath.  6 goals from 5 different scorers, our defence will have their work cut out to keep a clean sheet.  Hancock out  presumably but the team looked settled with Janny coming back in.  If we can stop DU from scoring at Tannadice then we should be able to limit QP to a solitary goal or better.   Best way to get the right result is an early goal and dominate possession like we know we can.  The hangover from Ayr and Morton is gone, the boys are on a high and Megwa is back.   Feel we will win but not by a massive margin.  Copycat score from midweek, 2-0

If we're serious about going up then the manager has to go now

Not trying to be funny here but is this an over reaction you think?   I mean, you are STILL top of the league. RR went on a horrible run a few weeks ago but there wasn’t any sign of the board sacking Ian Murray.  Still a good way to go, he hasn’t got you into an impossible situation.  Top is top, and no manager who leads a team to that position with 2/3 of the season gone deserves to be sacked

I will say, lads, that the feeling has been mutual. Not having Morton or Airdrie fans stinking up the place this season has been heaven. Even that weirdo Raith lad that used to make a point of popping in every time we conceded a goal, never mind a match. All conspicuously absent this year. 😢

They may be a league below in football terms, but your average Montrose, Binos, Cove, Accies output is levels above what gets spewed out by those two sides' followers on a regular basis. (One or two honourable exceptions, of course).

Let’s get it right, the only reason you didn’t want Airdrie in the league is because we pump you good and proper every time we meet.   No exceptions.    After the mauling in the playoffs you probably didn’t want to see us again for a couple of years.  But we’ll be seeing ya in the Autumn I think

    Taxi for Goodwin?

I remember Jim Goodwins last post match interview against us at Tannadice.   DU won and he kept saying things like, ‘with all due respect to Airdrie’ blah blah blah.  Basically making out they should be steam rolling teams like us.   I actually quite like the guy but think he needs a bit of a reality check and there’s no point in him or Dave Bowman losing their shit on the sidelines.  Their team got beat fair and square.  End of.  Their still top… just

  10. Honestly was not expecting that tonight and after the last 2 games I was thinking a battling draw would be a great result.  And we competed well for good portions of the game and for the most part it was 50-50 but yeah we had a stonewall penalty denied in the first half and of course they hit the bar from the free kick.   Thought it was a great save from Fordyce shot but at HT I was very happy with the score line.   Mason going off was a blow but Janny did a great job replacing him and we never looked overly troubled at the back.   TBH I was thinking how toothless we were up front despite getting some good balls in to the box, free kicks etc but sure enough a BRILLIANT move in the left creates a chance for Gabby and what a goal.  Brilliant.  Still didn’t think we were under too much pressure and the added time goal was very well taken. Just a really great performance and what a way to bounce back from a poor defeat at Morton.  Looking forward to Saturday now

  11. See there’s a lot of talk on the fb page about Megwa coming back, also see comments on P&B about us approaching Hibs.  Does anyone know if we really have a shout at bringing him in?  With Hibs dropping him out of their squad it seems the final weeks of the campaign would be better spent with us playing competitive football and maybe a trophy for him too. Just wondered if anybody knew more

  12. Very sad news and didn’t have the pleasure of seeing this man play for Airdrie but have had many a beer fueled pub conversation where some of the older fans have rated him as one of the best. Remember being on a supporters bus to Dundee years ago and some old timer in his 80s banging on the whole way about Ian and saying he was the greatest Diamond he’d ever seen. Telling me stories about individual games he excelled in and his time as manager etc… - and that was in the mid 90s when we were a pretty good team! He’ll be missed for sure

Following some claims that a certain Lanarkshire club was one of the best away days in the league, I thought I'd let the P&Bership strip me of my biases and reveal the truth.

Use whatever criteria you wish, don't overthink it, and let's all take a moment to thank the footballing gods that Cove is no longer an option.

Made no such claim that Airdrie was one of the best away days, only that other fans had been complimentary and that we had been recognized as a town/team about a certain visit.  A good read for all fans if you have 5, look forward to welcoming all Championship fans to The Excelsior between now and the end of the season

Taking it well I see... Relatively innocuous comment about airdrie provoking this reaction??

Just the usual Thistle pish - and just slapping down the theory that Airdrie is a shite place to visit and therefore we’d be better off out of this league.  It’s just a constant thing from Jags fans, not just the other fan I was bantering with and honestly it’s pretty pathetic.

That's fine, I'm not claiming Thistle are perfect or anything so your whataboutery is simply irrelevant whataboutery.

Perhaps you should try being a bit thicker skinned and not take every comment as entirely serious.

Honestly, I just don't see what your club bring to the league that most others don't. My last trip to your place I waited twenty minutes for a flattened pie, that's not exactly a great fan experience. You'd improve League One though.

    IMG_20230812_161816.jpg

I’ll need a receipt and a picture of the same pie within the Excelsior 😂  all I can think of is the scotch and wry sketch about a Thistle fans digestion system being assaulted by a Firhill pie. Plus the home fans get all the good pies at Airdrie, everyone knows that 😂

im thick skinned, but tired of the same Thistle shite about our town and team.  Tell you what, I’ll support you until the end of the season in the hope you get promoted so we’re not having the same conversation in 12 months.  You’ll be having the same argument with a Premiership supporter about Thistle getting relegated at the end of next season.

    Mon the Thistle

Not sure how you've jumped straight from me saying I'd like to see Airdrie relegated to me accusing your club of Nazism, rather than wanting you down because of, I dunno, your horrific stadium miles from any decent food/drink.

This thread is full of people saying they'd like to see a club go down, but only the Airdrie fans have reacted like a mother bear who's just seen someone piss on their cub.

Nah, your ‘we could all do without Airdrie’ comment doesn’t seem to resonate with the stadium not being near food or bars.  Plus, there’s a bar at the stadium unlike a lot of clubs.  It’s just the usual Thistle shite of hating Airdrie for the sake of hating a club.  Plus, most fans are complimentary of their visit to Airdrie (in my experience) and we were also recognized a season or two back about the overall away day experience to the stadium.  Again, the prospect of travelling to the north side of Glasgow becomes less and less appealing.  Back in the 90s I loved going to Firhill but in all honesty, it’s my least favourite away day now.

I'm fine with ICT going down. I do love a trip to The Malt Room, but you'd imagine they'll not be away for long. I'm not sure it would knock some of the tedium and undeserved arrogance from some of their posters, but we can hope.

    Arbroath would be a loss.

A half-decent QP promised so much to Thistle fans, but thanks in large part to Dempster, I feel few tears would be shed should they drop.

Dunfermline going down again would be a laugh. McPake seems very average at best and seems to be on a Matalan MacKinnon career trajectory.

I actually don't mind their current squad, but we could all do without Airdrie.

Coming up, Falkirk seem like incredibly boring certainties. Hamilton is alright for us Jags. Cove can stay down. Montrose is the dream.

Typical Thistle shite and ‘Airdrie are nazis’ or whatever.  Right now Thistle are the team that think they can compete with the big boys but in reality they’ll get pumped in the play offs and we’ll all be subjected to a sad trip to the north of Glasgow next season.  Would gladly see Thistle gone, up or down.
